2016 was a historically bad year for 3D fighters

I don't think anime beat em ups are the kind of in depth mechanic fighters OP is talking about.

And smash is only 1 game, also made by namco bandai and funded by nintendo

Using 3D models is not the same as making a 3D fighter. You would not call SF4 a 3D fighter because it had 3D environments.

And i guess i went too far. Not just Namco Bandai. Team Ninja can do it when they feel like not raking in the cash of their DLC schemes.
2.5D fighters aren't inherently cheaper than fighters with 3D movement. It ultimately comes down to the engine costs, the amount of content and the asset quality.

Make up your mind gaf, i thought you want everything to be retro with a modern twist?

8bit/16 bit style indie games and graphics (mine craft, etc)
Nintendo Classic
2D style fighters but now 2.5 instead

Hold on 1996 was the beginning boom of 3D Fighters? 20 years, Fuuuu i guess that makes them retro now, carry on then Retro Gaf.

I need a new soul cal in my veins. 2d Fighters just don't do it for me.

Kind of a weird comment.

But we did get VF1 models in VF4 evolution

On Wii U at least.

It will probably get a second chance on consoles with a Switch release since the arcade version is still adding characters.

I'm that one guy who takes a fighting game more seriously when the story is good.

It's one of the reasons why I got into Tekken and Soul Blade/Caliber. Even MK before MK4.

Stories in fighting games are parodies of themselves now. Also does not help that I'm 10 years removed from college. I'm like Nintendo. Fighting games are meant to be played locally, not online. Winner stays loser pays, pass the sticks

I am sure Soul Calibur 6 will be in the next 5-7 years.

I am sure Dead or Alive 6 will be in the next 5 years too.

We might get Virtua Fighter 6 in the next 2 decades if we are lucky.

In all seriousness though yeah, I want more 3D fighters but damn they just seem rare as hell.

And then Pokken disappointed me as of fan of 3D fighters and Pokemon. Playing it was so ehh to me.
