loved it.

it isn't as good as the original, but it was still awesome. I'm glad it wasn't a retread of the first. It had its own feel to it and complemented 300 well.

This was a pretty fun movie and fairly unusual as sequels go. While not quite as sharp as its predecessor, I highly recommend it to fans of the first, as it is quite a companion piece, providing interesting parallels and contrasts to the original.

Also, the horse is legendary.

I'm really glad I went to see this. The trailers were all kind of bad and hype-deflating, but I think it ended up holding its own versus the original. The Athenians weren't as impressive as the Spartans at hand-to-hand combat, but isn't that sort of the point? There were still some badass battle scenes. The naval scenes were a lot cooler and more tactical than I was expecting.

Also, Eva Green Artemisia. God damn. I'd serve under her any day,
even though it probably wouldn't end well for me
.

It is kind of funny how the Greeks kept talking about liberty and freedom in both movies when the majority of the people living in both Sparta and Athens at the time were in some form of servitude. It's good to be a citizen.

They can actually make a 300 super movie editing in both movies together... would actually make for a better movie overall because Rise of an Empire painted the Spartans with such glory that it made me want to see 300 again! Compared to the Spartans the Athenians looked like just average soldiers.

If they sped up all the slow motion scenes back up to real time, the two movies combined would probably be the length of a normal movie.

what's a gonzo starring performance?

PigletSquid3.JPG

He's bringing rodents to eat all the corpses.

The movie was fun, not as good as the first, but still solid fun.

But Artemisa
was way too weak. They hype her as the best Persian warrior but she was killed fairly easy.

The naval battles were great, but the armies battle were not as good as the first, not even close.

It was okay. Better than I expected, but I was pretty annoyed that they ended it where they did. My guess is that they're building up for the third movie.

Gorgo got on my nerves a bit, though. She refused to help the rest of the Greeks at all on the pretense that Spartans don't need combat help from anyone even though Leonidas was completely fine with letting the Arcadians tag along on his fight.

Eva Green was by far the best thing in the movie.

This movie was amazing!! I went in expecting it to be a lot worse than the first but it holds it's own as a fun and entertaining movie. Eva Green definitely stole the show.

What did you guys think of the
sex battle
scene? I thought it was hilarious and awesome but my friends were calling it the stupidest scene of the movie.

I loved it!

Pros:

- Eva Greene is the standout in this movie. You just can't tear your eyes away from her. She's insane, hilarious, charismatic, badass, total package. And that body, dear sweet merciful God.

- I liked the Strike Back guy, actually.

- Ship battles were actually cool! I liked the action in this one.

-
THE HORSE!
That was so fucking badass and cool.

Cons:

- Xerxes is lame in this one. Maybe that's the point.

- The whole prequel/interquel/sequel thing was odd.

I agree with you.

Agree with all your points as well.

As long as you go in expecting it to be Video Game: The Movie, it is awesome.

Ended up watching the movie last night with my sister and two mates. We all loved it! Watched it in 3D and it was so much better than I expected.

I found it funny how that sex scene was filmed as a fight scene. It was...the oddest sex scene I've ever known.

why the hell did they have to kill her? She doesn't die in battle at all historically :(

Saw the film last night and I thought it was pretty entertaining for what it was. The visuals were pretty gorgeous and the action entertaining. I did think they want to make a sequel from that ending.

I thought it was hilarious and awesome but my friends were calling it the stupidest scene of the movie.

Well, it was awesome, hilarious AND the stupidest scene of the movie. ;)
The whole
fight sex idea
and how downed Themistocles was when he returned (
"Guys, I fucked up, we're doomed..."
. ) was hilarious.

I doubt there will be a sequel. At least a historicaly accurate one.Movie was great, far better than the first IMO.
What? This ended at Salamis right? They still have Plataea and Mycale.
Although at this point, we all know the Greek alliance has won.
why the hell did they have to kill her? She doesn't die in battle at all historically :(
To be fair, it's not like she really did much else after Salamis aside from telling Xerxes to retreat back home.

I think she chose to kill herself. She had done some vile things as general so she knew her punishment would probably be ghastly. Given her awful past as a girl (raped and left to die by Greek soldiers), it's understandable that she'd rather die in the hand of a guy she's attracted to.

Film was magnificent and cheesy. Anyone who watches Strikeback knows Sullivan Stapleton has charisma to spare. He was pretty solid. And got his customary sex scene. :D

But Eva Green was so damn good. I bet a whole host of action movie producers and directors just sat up and took notice. You know she would have made a great Wonder Woman choice.

She was so damm intense and funny as well. And even though they took serious liberties with historical facts I would love to see a third film.

Eva Green is magnificent. Movie was very watchable.

Eva would have been the perfect Wonder Woman. Wake up, Zach Snyder!!!!

Holy shit, yes. I agree with you. The epic music by Junkie XL in the background was the cherry on top of all the ridiculousness.

The only issue I had with the first movie, was that we didn't get to see Xerxes go down since historical accuracy and all. Here, with that kind of "boss battle" it filled that void for me. I'm happy with it, even if it does spit in the face of history.

So good.

I fucking loved that shit. So goddamn funny.

I really liked it. Movie accomplished everything it tried to and didn't pander to anyone. Straight up epic action with awesome music and coreography.

Movie was solid. Artemesia was such a badass character. I was rooting for her more than I was the relatively flat athenians.

Its weird that they didn't start from there as that's where the first movie ended.
Yea but this movie puts the whole war and events leading up to it into perspective. Like that whole naval combat in the middle was happening during the combat of 300 (as it happened in the history books as well). It's a bigger picture than just the events in 300 which is what Rise of Empire did and that's why it transitions towards the bigger battles more reasonably (within this movie and going forward).

In reality, 300 is the companion piece to Rise of an Empire if you really think about it in the grand scheme of things. That's actually one of the stronger points of Rise of Empire over 300 IMO and why I would be interested in a 3rd and final movie that concludes the war.

So is this worth watching in 3D?

Besides seeing Eva Green's reasons in 3D?

Damnit now I'm thinking to myself I should probably see this in 3D to see Eva Green's reasons

I fucking loved that shit. So goddamn funny.

Theater was cracking up at that. lol

Yeah saw it last night on IMAX 3D and had a great time but the first film was better and more focused.

Eva Green was great and loved the War Pigs/Junkie XL remix that we sat through the credits to listen to it all. It's not on the soundtrack though. =/

I just hope we don't have to wait 7 years for the next one.

This movie was atrocious. Yackity yack yack yack - they had an immense backstory and were ucleverly just TOLD you the entire thing through dialog. I was bored out of my mind. Leading man had zero charisma, poor Lena Hedley looking old and tired...and then she
kicked everyone's ass in battle??? gmafb

Speaking of transitions, what I don't get is that you see the aftermath of Leonidas' defeat and not long after
Athene is sieged and destroyed? Okay. It's like the Hot Gates were all that stood between the Persian army and Athene, which is of course ridiculous. Never mind the implication that 300 Spartans defended the city of their rival Athenians, while the Athenian army was stationed at the coast with a small number of soldiers (more like farmers) and boats. Where the fuck is the rest of the army? Not defending Athene that's for sure. Fuck this overdramatization. Shit doesn't make sense strategically, man.

Just got back from watch this. It was pretty good. Like the action and Eva Greens....acting! I didn't care much for the first and I liked this one a lot more.

saw this today with zero expectation, came out very very very impressed by it!! wow.

movie is badass!! cant wait for the third one now'

and damn eva green.. god damn thats all i can say!!

And don't get me started on the final scene.
"We'll attack the Persian fleet head on with a handful of boats and hope the admiral will show herself and engage us with less than ten bodyguards."
Great plan! You fucking doofus. He has been a Mary Sue. Twice.

Also there are almost no quotable lines. I miss Gerard Butler already. ;-;

I thought that she was
hyped more as a commander than a warrior. That's why she makes it a point to say "I will not be a witness to this battle." in that one scene.

This movie is awesome, I was expecting disappointment but it really delivered on the action.

Shame they couldn't resurrect Leonidas as some god-Spartan. Gerard definitely has 100x more charisma than the current dude.

Re-watching 300 before I went to this I realized just how many lines I had memorized. There are so many good ones.

Rise didn't really have that, I agree. But I still really enjoyed the movie.
