US gets a AC adapter included though.

So does Australia - but they get theirs AFTER the USA. lol

It's just EU/UK and Japan that are being screwed over. I'm not fussed anyway - there was a spare DSi charger at my girlfriend's work, so I paid 50p for it. Got a USB charger too from amazon.

Just a helpful note for potential buyers and journalists. The 'notch' in a dial or slider that holds it in a certain position is called a detent. Please pass this on to anyone who is struggling with what to call this fascinating technology. If we all work together, we can reduce the number of awkwardly phrased reviews and forum posts. Thankyou for your time.

you guys notice no matter what shitty colors Nintendo gives we always have color wars?

Blue is nowhere near shitty. Red... maybe ;)

White>* though

Thanks, man! :D

You know, I'm actully happy they didn't put a second slide pad on it, I won't feel as sad of having the original 3DS over the 3DS XL.

It would be nice to have a second slidepad...but it's not essential for Zelda.

And I want more Zelda. That's all I want. Zelda.....and more warioland. And a 2D metroid.

I would really like a new "Mode 7-like" F-Zero.

That with updated graphics and the 3DS 3D effect = awesome.

I would buy that in an instant.

Most sensible Australians will be importing to prevent region-related shafting down the road.

I'm curious about this. So is there any downside to importing beside not being about to buy games locally? Like not being about to connect to an Aussie 3DS for multiplayer etc?

I'm just wondering if you guys could answer me a couple of questions please?

How hard is it to move the camera with not all games supporting a second circle pad. By hard I mean how comfortable is it? You have to use the touch screen or the ABXY buttons, right?

Also, regarding Kid Icarus. Ideally, I would like to play my 3DS games whilst in bed. Is this possible with Kid Icarus? As I know a stand comes with it. Is this stand sort of 'mandatory' in terms of making sure it's comfy to play?

I'd take any F-Zero. But as I said before, what I really want is GX in 3D. Would be heavenly.

I read that maybe Wii U might get F-Zero, which sucks IMO because I will never buy that system, and would much rather have the game on a handheld.

I would rather a GX port with online play.....

On an XL my eyes would melt because of the beauty.

GX would be crazy on the 3DS. Between the speed and the 3D, my eyes would definitely melt.

I feel that a "Mode-7 like" F-zero would work better on a portable system. I loved the one on the GBA.

Like Vitacat said though, I also would just take any F-Zero.

No harder than it was on the regular DS. Games that use the CPP's 2nd analog for camera generally have auto-camera or a snap-to-front button as well as customizable controls for people not using one.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but wired has a review up:

http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2012/07/3dsxl-review/

Overall it's quite a positive review. The only worrisome thing is this:

The general build quality of the 3DS XL is good, although not quite as slick as the original. The system’s lower housing is clicked into place, and it’s secured by fewer screws. This means that, as my youngest quickly discovered, stray fingers can inadvertently un-clip the shell. It’s not a big problem as it still has screws holding it in place and clicks back on, but this is a little disconcerting and not up to the usual Nintendo robustness.

Hopefully it takes a good bit of effort to "unclip" the shell casing, otherwise dirt and other debris might make their way inside from time to time.

Unclipping the shells means good things for the future of replacement shells... heh heh

But seriously, I hope it isn't a big problem.

GAME UK have announced their trade-in deal.

GAME UK have announced their trade-in deal.

That seems like a fantastic deal. GAME are essentially buying your 3DS for £90, most retailers sell new 3DS' for £120. I can't imagine GAME are making much of a profit selling pre-owned 3DS consoles.

No, they're giving you £100 for your 3DS. £20 more than their current trade in price.

Console is £175, AC adapter is £5 = £180. You pay £80.

Is there a valid reason why Nintendo decided to not include the AC adapter in Europe and Japan?

I really don't get this nonsense.

Ah okay, I thought they dropped the price to £169 (and I forgot about the charger). I just checked GAME's site and they are selling pre-owned 3DS consoles for £109, seems a bit high when a new console is only £11 more expensive at Amazon.

Not sure if it has been mentioned earlier in the topic but branches of GAME in the UK have started being sent demo units to show to customers, so if you want to try it out before making a decision it might be worth popping down to a store. From a quick hands on impression I have to say it is much more comfortable than the old 3DS, the silver is really nice as well but it is a shame that the inner black plastic feels very cheap and tacky (if you've ever held a PSP E-1000, it's like that). Something also felt a bit different about the slide pad, I can't put my finger on exactly what, but it just felt a little more responsive.

Penny pinching. In Japan, they probably (correctly) figure there is such a large mass of people with the chargers already it won't matter. In Europe I have no idea what they are doing especially with the US getting one. It's kind of baffling and I think consumer complaining is going to quickly force them into including it.

This was my feeling

instead of raising the price another 10 pounds lets say

they are letting people buy it seperately for 2 pounds

It might look sleazy but its saving the consumer money

thats what i think

the blue looks sexy

Huh, yeah, given how much of a problem battery life is (and the fact it's already damn huge) I can actually understand that rationale a lot. Maybe that's also part of why the Vita's battery life isn't particularly impressive.

Sarcasm? Vita's battery life is significantly better than either 3DS model.

Not from my experience of owning both Vita and 3DS. 3DS with the nyko powerpak beats the Vita by fucking miles.

the nyko powerpak 3DS is considered a core 3DS model now?

There's no doubt, the standard issue 3DS has inferior battery life to Vita. Not sure how XL will be compared, they sound pretty much the same as Vita battery-life wise if the reports are true now.

Well, I don't have the 3DSXL (obviously) but my Vita gets about 33% better battery life than my 3DS, easy. I always get at least 4½ hours (and as many as 8 hours playing PSP games) out of my Vita. The 3DS is lucky to get 3h15m...

this, I usually get 4 hours of Vita play and my brightness has been the default brightness out of the box, which is close to max
