3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Yea I bet amazon won't carry the 3dsxl because of the mass returns of the 3ds. Heck I went through 2 of them at launch. Crappy hinge, then major yellow tint on bottom screen. The one I kept has a shitty hinge as well. I kept it though was sick and tired of returning it.

Not sure how credible the source is, but here's someone chatting' it up with customer service on the matter:

Man, I hope they release a stand alone cradle in NA for launch.
This. The best thing about this new generation is optional charging cradles (the PSP Go had one too I believe). I never have to worry about my handhelds having a low charge because it's always is sitting on a charger.

Does anyone know if an Australian and a European 3DS can do a system transfer? I've got an Australian 3DS but I'm thinking of importing an EU 3DS XL.

*EDIT* Nevermind! Just checked my Australian 3DS, the firmware is E (Europe). I was thinking it was similar to the DSi which had an A (Australian) firmware version. Looks like they're compatible.

I jumped in. Never owned a DS so I've made a huge amazon order.

3DS XL Blu/Black + Super Mario 3D Land+ Ocarina 3D+ Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney+ Dragon Quest IX+ Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

I wish I could go back to before I played DQIX so that I could play it all over again like it was new. I loved that game. Our lineup for when this hits shelves looks exactly the same otherwise.

how did you make an order that included the 3DS XL? I can't find it on their site. I'm calling BS!!!! :p

Instead of arrogantly saying "been there done that", I'll admit to being jealous that I can't do it for the first time again. Enjoy!

Have fun with one of the best game libraries of all time (Play all Phoenix Wright games!)

One of the best things for me -

What really sells me on the XL is how much Nintendo has improved its build quality. The slightly loose feel of the 3DS is absent here, and lots of minor tweaks really make the system more usable.

I wouldn't say my 3DS has a slightly loose feel, the whole top wobbles quite a bit if you tip ot forward or back. Oh and the SD slot at the side annoys me as it's loose too.
I can't wait for this to arrive, I'm hoping Zavvi honour my £157.69 order. *fingers crossed*

That's sooooooo many hours of gaming goodness. I envy you, you're about to have some good times :).

The thing I'm still most excited about is the size. After playing on the Vita, the 3DS screen size bothers me quite a bit. Can't wait to upgrade.

Yeah it's so good when there's so much high quality stuff you can choose from a huge back catalogue and it's just the first round of games :D
Also 2012 in general has been the year of the handhelds for me. Most of the home consoles games I was waiting for, have been delayed to 2013 (Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Ni No Kuni, The Last of Us, Beyond, GTA V, God of War, Castlevania LOS2) while I've really enjoyed playing on Vita during these months, so now I've decided to add more handheld love with the 3DS :P

I've ordered DQIX because I loved DQ8 and its sense of freedom. I've read that the multiplayer focus has a bit ruined the single player mode because characters in your party don't have their own personality, but I still hope that that the story in interesting enough to keep me entertained.

You can pre-order it on Amazon.IT :p
Btw in a sense you're right because I'll get the games before the console :D

I had to go to gamestop to pre-order my blue 3DS XL. I buy more from amazon though, since I get crazy bonus money with all my purchases there, and no taxes. No big deal though. I am one of the few people that likes Gamestop.

Wow man! Nice! I'd say expensive but then its just 'front loading'!

[PS: Have you got a power supply with that order :p]

I think am gonna hold off for the moment. I'm thinking about getting a good PC around late this year, don't want to be spending too much! Reviews may sway me though; we'll see - I'll await the Gaf consensus.

NO, no power supply because I had no money left in the credit card ROTFL :DDD

This sounds good:

Games that already looked great in 3D - Super Mario 3D Land and Mutant Mudds, for example - look even better now, and games where the 3D effect used to be a little less impressive - Mario Tennis Open or Theatrhythm, say - actually do make it worth turning the 3D on now because what used to be too subtle is now just right. The exaggerated 3D effect now actually makes the 3D slider feel more effective, as you can actually see the depth sliding backwards and forwards now (something I never could before).

The "sweet spot" range is also extended as a result of the increased screen dimensions. While you still have to make sure the system's fairly head-on to "lock" the 3D effect properly, you do have a little more freedom to move your head now before you lose it. I'm not saying you can play it on a rollercoaster now, but it's a little bit better.

The stuff I'm hearing about the 3D is all over the place. This sounds promising.

I tried the XL at a recent retailer showing. Not giving details, as I wasn't supposed to be there.

3D is absolutely incredible - however, it's purely because of the size of the screen. The sweet-spot is the same as on the 3DS original. It's just far more immersive. Can't wait to play through OOT again.

Good to hear.

A bit off topic but I figured people in here would be more knowledgeable about this sort of thing.

My DS Phat screen is super dim so I want to replace it since it's barely useable. I also don't want to lose the ability to play my GBA games or my imported Ouendan 2. I'd have to get a DSL for all that right? Are they even still available? I plan on getting a 3DS XL down the road but I want to make sure my old collection is served properly first.

Has anybody seen anywhere in the UK list XL screen protectors as yet? Perhaps a little early.

Also, did anybody buy the first 3DS or a Vita from Tesco online? If so, did they turn up launch day?

It's €183 at GameMania (without AC adapter) so even if you'd buy the 3DS with adapter there it's still less than at bol.com.

edit: I see the AC adapter + cradle is only €23 at Dixons, so if you buy the 3DS at GameMania and the adapter + cradle at Dixons you have the complete package for €206.

Just noticed GameMania has a pretty good trade-in deal too. €83 (€87 in Belgium) when you trade in your old 3DS.

I wonder if they let you transfer your old 3DS data.
