I sorta just flat-out don't believe any impressions that say the screen quality, DPI-wise, isn't noticably worse than the normal 3DS. We know it is, it's a fact. It's far closer to the DSi than the 3DS, and the FIRST thing I noticed when I bought my 3DS was "holy shit the DPI is so much better than the DSi." It was like night and day.
Turn on your DSi, put it next to the 3DS. That's what it's going to (almost) look like. If a review says it's fine, it just means they can't tell, or don't care. I am glad that some reviews are actually mentioning it now, since it means I'm not crazy. There is no magical "round-pixel" filter in work here (Nintendo has confirmed identical screen tech), the DPI is just much lower, and how it looks to you depends entirely upon your tolerance for lower DPI. Things might look fine in internet videos, but surely we all recognize that they are not an accurate representation of what it will look like in real life? It's impossible to capture on film.
"Big Screens" are nice, sure, and will wow on first-impression. But once you're used to it a half hour later... DSi-era DPI ain't gonna cut it for me these days. Will be sticking with OG 3DS.
