Have you put the 2GB card into the 3DS XL? I believe the DSi games may be in the hidden portions of the card. Once you put the card into the XL they are transferred off the card and into the memory of the system.

how do you transfer games from the SD to the system?
I just put the old 2GB in the XL and can see all by Ambassador games and other stuff. The issue that I can't seem to rectify is getting this all moved to the 4GB card. I'm 32 years old and no idiot...these directions were fucking awful.

Got mine at Gamestop. They were sold out of Blue, and so I ended up getting Red. Thankfully Red is a fine color for the system.

New XL feels realllllyyyy damn good. Though the screen seems to distort easily in 3D (weird waves) ?:0/
Couldn't find a chopper purse, so picked up a blue fabric DSIXL wallet + car charger combo for $6.99, to match my blue CN pouch that arrived. The blue is fucking beautiful. EU owners were absolutely correct. Pics haven't done it justice, in person, wow..wow!

nope...that will NOT transfer Ambassador titles. My only DSI ware games, Zelda 4 swords, transferred just fine. However, none of the Ambassador titles showed up on the 4GB card, and copying the card via PC doesnt work. ?? What am I missing here?

My GameStop told me the pilotwing deal was only for the OG 3DS. Since it didn't matter much to me I didn't push him on it.
I traded in 2 OG 3DS and a couple of old games and got the red XL plus kingdom hearts, Mario kart, and resident evil revelations. Not a bad day.
The free game "only with original 3DS" is not true. Gamestop's OWN AD has a picture of the 3DS XL in it.
You should go back and demand your free game.
I disagree. Yes you need to be careful of distance to get the biggest sweet spot, and yes the edges can still be a little 'bandy', but the image doesn't break down at the edges, its just a little darker, and is more than compensated for by the size of the screen IMO
I'll still probably play in 2D most of the time though..

I heard it said a million times, but it still blew my mind when I first opened it.
Got up nice and early today and bought a red XL and NSMB2, like many have you have mentioned it sounded like no one really knew that this handheld was launching today. Started with K-Mart as I figured the place would be empty. Strangely they didn't have them which was really not a problem as I had plenty of places to try and ended up finding it next at Target.
For a pretty busy Target in our area, they only had 8 units (4 of each color) in the back with a small stack of NSMB2. Another customer and myself both bought them first thing in the morning, then after tipping my brother off, he and his friend picked up two more red XL's for themselves a few hours later. So it was rather easy to get.
The hardware is such an improvement: the larger screens make a huge difference especially after being spoiled with that massive Vita screen. It's much more comfortable to hold for a long period of time, gotta like those rounded corners. I like that the stylus is back on the right too, I'm just so used to finding it there. The 3D sweet spot seems bigger so it already feels easier on the eyes. And that basically fixed every problem I had with the original model. After NSMB2, I can't wait to get back into KI with this handheld!

I also feel like I lucked out. This was a last minute decision and I never really expect GS to sell me something new without a reserve first. Nobody was at the store and it wasn't until my second trip to turn in the old 3DS and get refunded that it got crowded and people were there for NSMB2 and the 3DS XL.

As soon as I saw the top screen I quite literally gasped.
From me; 3D Land, Kid Icarus (beware steep learning curve for controls), and Mario Kart 7 are the games you must have. Resident Evil Revelations, StarFox64 3D, Ocarina of Time, Pilotwings Resort, Theatrhythm are all quality. eShop titles like Pushmo, Mighty Switch Force, Colors 3D and Mutant Mudds are worth looking into. But of course, if you're picky on genres, then that'll limit the selection quite a bit.
Overview thread of the system's titles, and there are countless recommendations throughout the thread. Browse away.
If you can find the decent quality (ie; static, no adhesive) screen protectors for the DSiXL, the bottom screen ones will fit. Although there will probably be dozens of options for the 3DS XL soon tooHori, or BodyGuardz are usually decent.
Just bought two. A blue one for me and red for my lil girl. Turns out she loves the blue one. I did not open the red one yet and my local gamestop ran out of the blue. God wish i looked at the red one while i was at the store....Red one not bad right? I honestly could careless about colors but as long as the red dont look like crap, I will just keep it. Damn daughter....

Well, I got a blue 3DS XL and it turns I think it's awful; the weight, the screens, everything. My stupid mistake was performing a system transfer from my old 3DS to the new one before playing with it enough to realize. Now I have to wait a week to transfer my data back to my old system, which is insane.
Does anyone know of any workaround for this arbitrary limit?

I have this month's Nintendo Power which has a life size photo of the XL and I was still shocked at how big the screen is compared to the original.
Man I should have read this thread before performing a transfer. I got an error message saying it couldn't read the 4gb card and could not transfer over my dsi games. Ok no biggie, problem is none of my 3ds games transferred over either. No 3d classics, no ambassador games, nothing.
You think the screens are awful? How so?

I would see someone not enjoying the screen being blown up to the size it is. It really does make you release how ugly the models in Mario Kart 7 are, but then again, 3D Land and Theatrhythm look brilliant on it.
People upgrading should really be doing it for the comfort though. The original 3DS is a hand destroying monster, and the XL is bliss.

I didnt get an error...but just don't see anything on my 4GB card. When I put the 2GB card in everything works fine. Copying over via PC doesnt do anything...it's as if the 4GB is completely blank.

By the way, my 3DSXL did not have noticeably warmer screens.
Try swapping the original SD card over to the new system.

Yeah, it looks like I'm stuck waiting a week to transfer things back. Wow, Nintendo, way to rock that 2012 Internet technology.
As for the screens, I just really can't deal with the extremely low PPI; everything just looks way too soft, washed out and low-quality. Again, it was my fault for not testing this more before transferring my data.

Those games don't transfer. You have to move your SD card over after the system transfer completes. The only games that reside on the systems internal memory are DSiware. Everything else is on your SD card.

Yeah, what these guys are saying. You haven't experienced an error, those items just literally live on the SD card. The system transfer doesn't move them. If you want them on your NEW SD card, you need to move the files with a computer. ALL of the files, even if some seem redundant. Then you'll be set.
I'm still having hand-cramping problems with the XL. Not as bad as the original 3DS, but still there, and it's very disappointing.
What were you expecting? It's Nintendo.

Makes perfect sense...but Ambassador games do NOT transfer over by copying the SD card. I have no idea why this would be. However, it seems that just re-downloading them via the eShop is the easiest method of getting them back.

For those of us hoping they come out with new covers for the system, it might be difficult since the SD card is separate from the back plastic, but forms part of the back of the unit. You could replace the back plate, but then you'd still have that red/blue SD card cover.
Can you just put all the files on the 4GB via PC and just go from there? I already copied my 2GB contents to PC, but currently in the middle of a system transfer.

Placed the order online for instore pickup with ShopDiscover (10%) and it was ready 30 minutes later.
Got the $20 coupon and will be getting $20 cashback effectively making he 3DSXL $17 and I sold my 3DS for $150 on craigslist a couple days ago.
Pretty awesome upgrade for $24. The screen is much easier on my eyes.

If you're not using the same SD card from the original 3DS in the XL, then yes, just copy the entire card's contents onto your PC, and then copy all of that onto the new card and stick the new card into the XL.

Apparently not, as I did this EXACT same thing intending to transfer over my Ambassador games. My games saves and DSI copy of Four Swords transfered over just fine, but none of the Ambassador games showed up. Can't figure out for the life of me why this would be. Regardless, the work around is to re-download from the eShop. I'm doing that now.
