3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Sure, but you have to wait a week between transfers.
 
I didn't get to GameStop today before they closed. Just incase anyone else is wondering when these promotions end here's what I found.

GameStop's $100 dollar trade in credit ends the 16th of September

As long as your brother doesn't mind losing all the data on his system. You can't transfer individual games from 3DS to 3DS. It's all or nothing.
 
Does the 3DS XL have the bezel problem as the original 3DS where it would scratch the top screen to hell if you didn't leave a cloth or some other protection between the screens?

The speakers on the XL do completely suck. I expected a little more "boom" out the XL and it actually it seems quieter on max volume. There's always headphones, I guess. As far as hardware revisions go though, I'd highly recommend this over the original 3DS. Much better feeling in the hands, bigger screens (with a slightly lower DPI), better battery (so they say), less glare. The "better feeling in the hands" is a big one for me, as I'm over 6' tall and the original really gave me cramps.

no, but if you put a cloth inside, you will get smudges on the right edge of top screen.
I was like WTF is going on...
 
My hinge locks, but has a slight flop to it....you can feel the lid weight wobble + shifting, when moving the system.

Anyone else's XL have this?

Dont sound low quality to me, or at least my model is the same volume as my original 3DS. No improvements but if you were fine with the original, you should be ok here. It seemed lower to me when I first turned the system on, but Star Fox and Mario 3D land are just as loud as they were before.

Yes. Take the receipt and the system back asap. You dont have to change systems or anything, they just have to ring it up as a return, rering the same system in the same transaction, then ring up your game. No more money exchanged, but you get your free game.

I just went back to Gamestop about 30 minutes ago, told them about the deal, and they gave me a free copy of Pilot Wings. So yes, you can go back for it.

Also, Pilot Wings is a lot of fun.
 
For those who owned the 3DS before XL came out, what game have you been most impressed with on the new model?

For me, Kid Icarus with full 3D effect has been mind-blowing. The sky sections are just jaw-droppingly beautiful and immersive.

Seemed? Is anyone able to put the two together on stereo sound and tell me the difference, in sound quality and volume... Do you guys know of any place I can demo it?
 
Just turned it on and played 3D land for a bit.

Is it just me or has the distance your eyes have to be to see 3D properly been improved? I can actually see everything better leaning back and playing at a normal stance.

With my 3DS OG, I had to lean in close to see the 3D properly!

Theatrythm is a really addictive game from the past month or so I put into it. My favorite rhythm games are Elite Beat, Ouendan, and Rhythm Heaven. I like this one just as much, if not more so. It has this collectible aspect to it that keeps you wanting to play more and more once the real difficult songs start appearing it's pretty damn amazing. Depending on how much you like FF music matters tho.

Yeah, the demo of Revelations was ok. Wasn't in a hurry to buy it. And I almost got NSMB2 today, but realized I haven't hardly touched 3D Land. Zelda seemed the better choice.

Damn, it's like a perfect day in gaming for me. Cool stuff!

Well, it has a blue power indicator that is on all the time the console is on, yeah. Just like the original 3DS and every electronic device you own. The notification light on the top right shouldn't be on all the time though...
 
I grabbed a blue one, seeing the thing in my own hands , I actually like the color. Sure the white looked slick in photos but I don't think I'd like it as much in person.

System transfer worked out quite well and painlessly... except for 1 nitpick- all the dsi ware and such is included in my previous downloads which is all well and good but none of the extra data and whatnot stays on a new system, even transfering it seems only to fill up space on the card ( I just tried) I suppose this is nintendo's way of making sure you don't simply put a bunch of games on an sd card and let your friends copy them all but still, It would be nice if a system transfer would have simply deactivated them for use with system A and then copied activation info to the new console so that system B could use the card it came with without having to re-download everything and lose all the save files.

Still.. only a minor nitpick because the save files for actual game carts still exist on system B and work.



As far as using the system itself- it's pretty much better in every single way, better speakers, better screens, better 3d , better form factor, buttons, etc etc.

For those wondering- the better 3d is mostly just that you can hold it about 6 inches further away without any problems.

So far, everything i've played has been pretty impressive, but Star Fox really draws you in. Some of the effects flying off the screen in Mario 3D land are much more noticeable.

Well seemed in that it wasnt immediately obviously worse or anything like that.
 
Starting to look like August may be a big month for 3DS sales in NPD. Seemed like stores had gotten a really good stock in but sell outs are starting to pop up
