Does anyone know a way to buy a game you already have free via PS+? I already have Tactics via PS+ but I wouldn't mind paying the 5 bucks to have it indefinitely.
Just picked up FF IV Complete and the Dewey Decimal one for my Vita. I figure I don't need to play FF8 or FF9 until I finish FF7, which may never happen, or at least won't happen until the next sale. Excited for the two I picked up, though.
I actually went back to FF13 last week and am having a lot of fun with it. Stuck on some boss again, though, so I'm afraid it just got grindy.
No, it's just between the transitory screens mostly (i.e. pressing triangle for the menu, getting in and out of battle). The actual gameplay itself is unaffected.
Haven't played these in forever. Might go back to 7 and 8 just because I barely remember them. How's the quality going to be on a 50" screen? Mainly concerned about text, since the graphics were always shit.
In the DS version's defense, it at least has some layer of a game system wrapped over it. Vanilla FFIV is so hard to play these days. The only thing the PSP version really has going for it for someone without the nostalgia is the graphics. There's so little customization to the game it hurts.

No. This is a known "flaw" if you will, with Plus. If you think you ever want to actually own a game for good, don't download it via Plus. There are two ways around this - wait until your Plus expires, then make whatever purchases you want then, then re-sub. Alternatively, if you don't want to wait, you can use another non-Plus PSN account to make said purchase.
Be thankful you didn't buy a bundle of a game that you already "owned" a part of via Plus. Don't get me started on that.

Just got an email from Sony, apparently I've had a $10.05 balance on my account for like 2 years that I didn't realize lol. So possibly against my better judgment I bought Dissidia 012, not really concerned about the game quality but when I may be able to get to it >_>. In the process I also discovered that I haven't been online with my PSP in long enough that the PSP apparently doesn't support WPA2, so I'm downloading Dissidia 012 on the PS3 so I get to discover what that transfer process is like. Exciting!
Also I didn't realize all of the ridiculous Dissidia 012 DLC that was out, it looks like nothing but costumes and music though.
I have a couple of questions, as I intend to buy War of the Lions and FFIV Complete Collection.
Does it make sense to buy the original Tactics over War of the Lions? Is one better than the other? As I understand it, War of the Lions is basically a remake of Tactics, but I'm curious as to whether or not there's a reason to play one game over the other...or if it even makes sense to play both.
Now, regarding FFIV, I've never finished the game. I first played it on SNES when I borrowed it from a friend, and I eventually just stopped playing because
all of my party members seemed to be so intent on committing suicide every five minutes, with Tellah killing himself with Meteor being the straw that broke the camel's back for me
.
I later purchased the game on GBA, and I absolutely loved it...until I made it to
the moon
. I dunno...the game became a lot less interesting at that point for me. I started the game multiple times and always stopped at that point...until I bought the DS version.
I was determined to finally finish FFIV, and I actually made it to what I believe to be the final boss. It completely freaking destroyed me. Given how much difficulty I was having just dealing with the enemies in the final dungeon, it probably would've taken an eternity of grinding to last even two minutes in that final battle. I didn't use any augments, because I was shooting for a vanilla experience. Maybe that was my mistake. Who knows? Anyway, I didn't finish it.
The final battle in the DS version was really damaging toward my overall feelings about the game. Before I bothered playing much past my arrival on
the moon
, I still really considered FFIV to be one of my top ten games of all time. After playing the final battle in the DS version, though, I probably wouldn't have even considered the game to be in my top hundred.
Now, with that said, where does the difficulty in the PSP version fall compared to the other versions? I honestly don't believe that the difficulty of the SNES version had any effect on my enjoyment of the game. The game just lost a lot of its color and personality upon reaching
the moon
.
Also, where's the difficulty level of the additional content in the PSP version fall?
Lastly, I was going to ask this FFIV question in a new thread so it didn't get buried in another thread like this, but I'm still a Junior Member, despite having over 500 posts. Any idea as to why I'm still a Junior Member? Is the status change not dependent on post count or something?
War of the Lions is the same game as the original but with a new/better translation along with some new content (2+? new characters, some gorgeous animated scenes), but the only real detraction is that for some reason this version had ridiculous slowdown/load times when doing special attacks/spells. However IF you are playing on PSP, there is a super easy patch you can run through CFW that completely eliminates it which makes it the definitive version; I never fuck around with custom firmware or homebrew or anything and I was able to do it super easy. I think it's also runnable on Vita, but someone else would need to confirm that.
On the Junior thing I think they changed it to where it's a combination of post count and time as a member, like 6 months or something maybe?

Yeah, loadtimes are on both versions; no one is exactly sure what happened, something weird with the port process. IIRC the guy who put out the patch said it was a relatively simple fix. Bizarre. But the fix works for both, I actually switched from the UMD to the digital version halfway through my last playthrough and used the patch the whole way through on both with no issues.
On the Junior thing I have no idea, either they way upped the post count requirement, or you've been made a permanent junior member for something you did
FFIV PSP is slightly easier (more like faster) because you have auto-battle. Just press start or select and your characters will go auto-battle (all they do is attack) and it speeds up the battle 2x.
When I get home, I will purchase and download the best Final Fantasy for the PS1 era (IX) and play it on my Vita. I'll be getting FFIV Complete as well.

Good to know, although I'll probably pass on the game as a result of this. Or buy the PSone original. It's a shame that Square Enix wouldn't even release a tiny patch for this, and it always bugs me when the fix is simple and still isn't implemented on an official level.

Well, I *was* temporarily banned once as a result of a mod misinterpreting one of my posts (as I meant absolutely no offense) in a debate regarding a pretty controversial topic. I'll PM a mod about it.

That's good to know. It'll make a grind a bit easier. I kinda wish Square Enix would commission Zeboyd Games to remake FFIV (or Phantasy Star I and II) with some of Zeboyd Games' changes to random encounters in place. It'd be nice to be able to invoke a battle from a menu (instead of walking back and forth until you're attacked randomly) and exhaust the number of random encounters after a while in any given area.
