Hope this isn't true, but I heard on CNN that there are celebrations in Gaza now because of this event. That is real classy.

Not as classy as the countless Palestinian babies killed by Israelis in Gaza in the past week.

Children Killed :

Israelis: 119

Palestinians: 982

Civilians* Killed:

Israelis: 705

Palestinians: 2,087 - 2,974

Look at the number of children killed in 2007. Only one Israeli kid was killed, and he was palestinian with Israeli citizenship!!!

And 59 palestinian kids died last year

Its unfortunate many people forgot anout the 2-3000 Palestinian kids.

How is a suicide bomber any different than a tank suddenly rumbling down the street and taking out a building? People can't defend themselves against such things.

Anyway, like I said...

The IDF are a shameful bunch of monsters for killing children willy-nilly and so are the parents who would turn their kids into child soldiers

I so agree with you.

Most Palestinian casualties on the part of Israeli's are the result of military operations against militants. The militants on the other hand attack civilians, typically in scenarios where they are unarmed or unable to respond because the delivery vehicle is a suicide bomber.

To suggest like you just did that the Israeli's may be specifically targeting children based on one-off situations between settlers is not only disingenuous, it makes you part of the same inhuman coalition of blood-letters.

True, me using "one-off" situations were settlers shoot down civilians as a reply was bad of me. But the excessive and disproportionate use of force that IDF has used recently has led to many civilian victims. Civilians, women and children, that were unarmed and unable to respond and wouldn't had had to die.

Militants are not representatives of a sovereign government, not members a military code of conduct, nor members of culpable to international oversight.

The Israeli government first and foremost targets militants, and in the process of these engagements end up with casualties. These casualties ratios can at times be excessive and are the source of condemnation abroad and rightly so, and the Israeli's can and have responded to these criticisms.

The Palestinian terrorists on the other hand are not culpable for their actions. They INTENTIONALLY kill civilians by means of showing up anywhere, at any time in CIVILIAN centers and hiding amongst CIVILIAN the Palestinian populace and are more than willing to kill any number of their own to kill an Israeli.

Sitting on the sick as fuck position that there's no difference is just the sort of ignorance that condemns this region to an eternity of conflict.

There's also a difference in the abilities.
Trust me, the Hamas would've been very happy to be able take on the IDF; Israel is weird like that, it's more sensitive to soldiers' deaths than civilian casualties.

I'm not justifying attacking unarmed civilian, this is morally unacceptable, but the asymmetry between the Israeli and Palestinian is larger than what you've mentioned.

Nobody is questioning that the Israeli's aren't at times using inefficient attacks against militants, with sometimes highly disproportionate ratios between civilian and militant deaths.

At the same time, there has to be equal culpability of militants who, if Iraq is any indicator, are responsible of significant civilian casualties themselves, be it fighting between Hamas and Fatah, or shooting from behind civilian positions or blowing themselves alongside Israeli civilians.

You'd think that after so many years of retaliating against retaliations, someone from either side would get the idea that killing just one more random person isn't doing much to push this conflict toward a resolution.

But hey, maybe one more retaliation will do it, right?!

i find it funny how anti israel people say that walking into a seminar and blasting everyone randomly is the same as going in a tank w/ a squadron and targeting a specific terrorist group. I know the result is bad, but the situation is completely different. It's just too bad that many/all terrorist groups aren't located in a "base" but in everyday apartments with many civilians around them.

There was a thread made last week(?) about ~30 Palestinians killed and the general response was, 'so what?' and 'why is this news?'. One side has civilians bombing a nation, the other has a nation bombing civilians.

Anyone saying that Israel kills all those 'innocent' children/adults is truly an idiot, their kids are throwing stones and are using guns against the IDF soldiers, do you expect them not to shoot back? I have enough images stored in my computer of Pali children standing next to a rocket launcher, how do you expect them not to get hurt? Unlike the bombers who plan to kill civilians, the IDF does not do so.

I feel sorry for the Israeli families.

Second of all, most of the civilians that are killed don't die because they are throwing shit at the soldiers. When you start rolling tanks around into populated areas and start bombing buildings, people die. IDF has also been documented to have used Palestinians as human shields, harassing them at border crossings sometimes even killing them.

Dude, have you been in Palestine? You have no idea what its like down there. When a #@%!ing tank is coming in to destroy your little home to make way for their own new homes you're just going to either sit there or bloody do something. Guess what? People would usually fight back. And its even more pathetic that a bloody tank and guns is what it takes to tackle kids throwing stones. And where did you get the idea that Palestinians get guns? The citizens have no weapons. The militant groups do.

There's no kid brave enough to go all alone and throw rocks at an armed soldier, but as a group someone will start shooting sooner or later.

Trust me man, its so easy being anti-Palestine just as much, if not more. And btw, when Israel violated many many UN resolutions in the past decade, the world did not do anything till this very day. Id say theyre getting a break in comparison to the Palestinian issue.

Let me give you a quick background of whats happening to the people in Gaza right now - they have no food supplies, no electricity, no petrol. Theres a blockade imposed by Israel thats been a little softened up barely. They have nowhere to go, and theyre going through a crisis - a crisis of losing at least 20 lives a day at what is starting to seem like random. I dont know what Id do if I was in their place.

They deserve a lot of scorn for what they've been doing and they should be ashamed. I also HATE that the U.S. sends them $6 billion a year or whatever. I'd much rather have that $6 billion go to something here than to Israel who doesn't need the U.S.'s help nor deserve it.

There is no difference. Worse happens here and elsewhere in riots than throwing rocks. At most police use rubber bullets.

This is not even the point though. The point is that most civilian deaths happen due to 'collateral damage'. When you're family member, friend, or neighbor is killed however, there is no difference between terrorism and 'collateral damage', they were killed by an occupying force which has illegally occupied your lands for half a century. There is already so much hate in the peoples hearts on both sides that they go and kill each other. The Israelis don't have to resort to personally going over to Gaza and killing some Palestinians as their government will do it for them. No side is justified and it is obvious that they both have to move forward looking ahead instead of looking at the past, but that obviously isn't happening. It is just one long chain and so this incident doesn't come as a surprise as Israel killed nearly a 100 Palestinians last week.

Neither side is right in this argument. The sooner people realize that and stop defending a side based on their heritage(I'm Jewish, btw), the sooner maybe something will happen.

Perhaps I could get a good explaination as to why Israel and many of the Jewish people in occupied territory should be so deserving of our sympathy? If you look at an action, Hamas gun firing rockets into Israel, hitting a car or damaging a home with perhaps one sad death. The response is Israel launching a major air strikes killing hundreds.

I will not justify the actions of Hamas but how are the Palestinians supposed to repudiate the people who won in a democratic election and who are also trying to provide much needed services in Gaza? I don't see Israel trying to feed or secure the Palestinians. I DO see them killing many, MANY more than those who die to Hama's actions. So who is REALLY the victim here?

You are showing the ignorance that underlies the situation. Israel has a modern conventional military, but this does not mean it is significantly more effective than others at tracking down and killing only terrorists. This is something I find is raised by people who magically believe the military works like the movies.

Conventional armies are built for the purpose of overwhelming and annihilating the enemy opposition and a testament to Israeli restraint is that these casualties aren't worse every time they call in an air strike or tank.

Not even the US has an adequate army to deal with this situation and are spending hundreds of billions in newer and more efficient technology. Israel does the same in it's own weapons development systems. All the Israeli's are doing at this time is the best with their given technologies. Do you think you can do better? Could the US?

People like you who believe that the Israeli's might be intentionally killing civilians are the same sort of enablers of murderers that will cement this situation for generations. The reason for this is the lack of sense involved in your thinking. Don't you think if the Israeli's intended on actually killing civilians, their conventional army would make better accounting for itself?

While it would be great for Israeli's to perform continuous Wrath of God operations on Palestinian militants, they're enemies have changed. They are internationally funded organizations whose weapons and expertise are being provided and funded by foreign governments. Furthermore, people like you focus entirely on one side of the equation and nothing of the militants or their foreign backers.

First you are forgetting that Israeli cities are being randomly targeted the past seven years. Over 5k rockets. To this day Israel keeps sending food supplies (recent report I just found: 25.02.08 // 60 trucks). The electricity thing ... is just so fake. I'm sorry, but even the above photos I posted have streets with lights on. I even remember reading an article that showed photos of a Hamas gov meeting with candle lights, problem is it was shot in daylight, they just used curtains.

One thing I have to say is that the Palestinians know how to use the press, it's probably their best weapon. Every one that dies is somehow a civilian and every action of the IDF to prevent rockets from being shot to Sderot or Ashkelon is considered a crime. So, is the Israeli blood so cheap that they can't act? How would the US act if Las Vegas was being shot at daily for the past seven years? look at both sides. And before you say it, the Palestinians are the ones who started fighting against the IDF years ago, not the other way around, so you can't really say they retaliated against something.

Although I don't think I'd put it the same way there is a bit of wisdom in this comment. Since Israel will always respond much more harshly than the action taken against them, pehraps its now time to 'cleanse' the Gaza strip. Since the world community doesn't really say much when 100 people are killed for one, I'd imagine there would be only a minor complaint issued if 1000000 people are killed off. Israel would be safe once and for all. Then they could re-annex Gaza back into Israel. If their overreations don't bother you this shouldn't either.
