Pretty good. Working on gaining more skill points and my other odd makeshift party works well enough together. Though our damage output is not as high, but we can drag fights out pretty long as long as the Fortuner does not die.

Rune Knight / Fortuner / Agent actually works as a weird party combination. Esp if you up the ice damage on the Rune Knight and the Ice Trap Hack Resist down skill the Agent has.

Like how this game they seemed to have thought out classes a bit more so that they can work with each other. As thats one thing I had always initially felt the series was weak with.

The problem with getting that party to work well though, is that it is VERY SP intensive so you will have to be saving up a lot of points and spending them wisely.

Anyways a tip for those who will be diving into the game new, think carefully when you put together your 2nd party.

As there will be a section where you will split into 2 parties and fight without the support of the other. Though you can teleport back to the main base, which gives you access to the party terminal. So has me wondering if you can just switch to your main party again. Didnt try that since had my secondary party set up.

Finished the game last night with Samurai/Fortuner/RuneKnight party, though I still have postgame to do. I think I can safely say this game has exceeded my expectations, I stopped playing 7th Dragon 2020 about halfway(?) through but I went through this one in a matter of days.

I also think the classes in this game are lot better than before, though I think this might've come at the expense of difficulty? I only wiped on a couple bosses, and I don't think I ever wiped on the same boss more than once. Also, random encounters seem pretty pointless, after the first arc I basically ignored random encounters entirely and killed dragons instead. Even dragons stopped being a real threat once I got the last set of skills, my party build never took more than 2 turns to kill a dragon since our damage output was so high. Rune Knight's Brave Sword in particular does some pretty ridiculous damage, on most dragons it'll do more than enough damage for the rest of the party to pick up the pieces. If the dragon's weak to magic it'll just oneshot them, once I saw one take 8000+ damage and it didn't even crit, lol

RE: Parakeetman's spoiler,
you can warp out and switch party order to use your main party all the time. There was never a point in the game(so far, maybe postgame is different?) where you couldn't use your main team.

Thats good to know that it will just allow you to swap back to the main party, since it saves the trouble of having to improvise if you messed up lol. I didnt need to so never bothered with checking if its possible. My secondary party was only about 2 levels behind the main one too.

Fairly close playtime.

I wonder wtf was that guy killing to get his characters up to the 90s like that in the same amount of time. As Ive still yet to find a monster type that gives lots of exp. Just the SP and Az ones.

I wonder if party respec is really worth the time considering the game isn't that hard, unless post-game difficulty is something else?

I'm pretty sure that guy has already finished postgame, so I'm actually behind by quite a few hours. I guess he must've skipped all the text and not done any optional stuff? I had most of the busywork quests done by endgame, except for a few that required item farming from randoms.

Yeah they said they finished most of the content. Considering this game doesnt really have any voice for story stuff and said person is native in Japanese, blowing through the text is a non issue for reading quickly. I suppose thats the one upside of not having to sit around and listen to all the voice stuff. This person in particular usually does everything possible with a game, as they write up reviews in Japan. Not sure how they do it, but in general they seem to have some games a few days before release.

Its kinda insane too the stuff they did in the past w/ the amount completed with said title.

Ill most likely be somewhere in the 40+ mark I think.

I noticed that this guy gave 2020-II an A+ over 3's B, is 2020-II a big improvement over 2020? If it is, maybe I should consider giving the 2020 series another try...

The first game was pretty bare bones. 2020-II did at least improve some things, granted it did not add too much with extra classes though. Music was fantastic as always.

But to beat out the first title is not that hard considering mechanics wise it was fairly simple. lol

Story was a bit more interesting too, with some of the settings also.

One thing both of those games have over this one is the whole rescuing people was a bit more amusing. Where as in this game most of the folks dont really seem like they need rescuing...

Yeah, I remember the music being good but the classes being kind of boring. If 2020-II's new classes don't add much then I think I'll hold off on going back to the 2020 series. I at least played enough of both to appreciate the cameos in III, so that's good enough for me, lol

Really hope this game does well, I'd love to see what they could do with a 7th Dragon 4.

Edit:

There are minor boosts for respeccing, but I don't think they're necessary. I haven't really done much in postgame yet, but the randoms are definitely way scarier. At that point though, you probably have enough sp to learn a ton of the stuff in your skill list, so if you learned the wrong stuff it might be better to just equip sp boosters and use items to learn the stuff you want.

Yeah after what III added it would be hard going backwards honestly.

Really hope that they up the party size back to 4 as still say 3 sucks. They need to rethink the enemy number and balance a bit more if so. Since by far this is the easiest game in the series.

The other funny thing in III is due to the height increase of the characters the hacking animation is too high now so the hands are typing above the keyboard lol. Since they still reuse a lot of animations, but didnt seem to fine tune it for stuff like that.

Thought so. Guess I won't bother with it atm just for the stat boost until I play the postgame stuff

Got to the postgame superboss at level 73, and I think I've reached the point where I might have to grind some levels to win. The previous postgame bosses were pretty strong, but my party managed to scrape through with some planning after a couple of wipes. Luckily, the last area of the dungeon sometimes spawns exp rabbits that give you 20k a pop so I guess they just assumed people would be underlevel? Also most of the randoms are basically unbeatable for me right now, since
the randoms are powered up dragons but they still move twice per turn lol

Rieko Kodama is involved in this series correct? Good to see her still grinding away at RPGs. If only Sega would put her on Phantasy Star V/Skies of Arcadia 2.

I can only dream.

Hopefully this does receive a localisation, though time may be against them if the NX does drop next year.

Finally beat the final postgame boss, thanks to many heroic rune knight sacrifices. Even at lv81 the boss still did ridiculous damage, but since the rune knight's "counterattack on death" damage is influenced by how much damage they take before they die, my strategy basically devolved into "get rune knight killed off and resurrect them as many times as possible", lol. I don't think my other party members did anything other than use items to heal and use a buff every once in a while.

Anyway, I had a good time with the game. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a new game+ option, otherwise I would've liked trying a new run using different classes. I might just do a new run anyway, but probably not anytime soon.

Am still slowly progressing through with what little time I have at the moment. Finally got the third party so been working on increasing their SP to unlock skills. Went Vanisher, Mage and Rune Knight.

Will be using the Rune Knight as the main damage soak / decoy and Vanisher / Mage for all the damage dealing is the idea with the 3rd party. Cant really test out anything due to the massive point costs lol.

Need to find a location that spawns those dragon embryo crystals at a better rate.

Its kinda funny how my main party is still the one from the demo though. Since I was too lazy to go and change their appearance. The highest damage dealer at the moment is the Duelist if I can pull off that 3 trap skill activation. Does generally around 4-5k damage. Still waiting to get the high damage skills for the Samurai and God Hand though.
