Emma Watson was hnnnng as ever but no one stood out much this year unfortunately.

Blanchett, Pink, Menzel, SandyB.

Charlize Theron worked it.

Was she even in a movie last year? Don't know, don't care.
Theron is a goddess, no surprise. Edit: Made a mistake here whoops.

I like all of the winners, I haven't seen 12 years or Dallas though. This week or next week. Really wish Linklater would have won, maybe this year with Boyhood? (Judging by first reviews).

My favourite part was when Jared Leto actually thought the Ukraine would be watching.

Regardless, I loved the ceremony. One of the more interesting ones that held my interest the entire way through. I could've done without Matthew's God speech though but it is really fascinating just how much he's turned his career around. I swear I thought we would never see him again after starring in shit like Failure To Launch.

Really enjoyed Cate's speech though she kind of dragged on towards the end.

Really happy with all the praise Gravity received too.

Family film.
Too simple. It's the second highest grossing animated film of all time.

Think word of mouth has done it insane wonders. Catchy song in Let It Go doesn't hurt, number one selling album, and great reviews. Plus Disney marketing. Perfect storm.

In all my years of watching the Oscars, I've learned that any movie about the Holocaust, Racism, Slavery has a very high probability of taking Best Picture.

3 out of the last 21 winners doesn't seem like high probability to me.

2013 - "12 Years A Slave"
2012 - "Argo"
2011 - "The Artist"
2010 - "The King's Speech"
2009 - "The Hurt Locker"
2008 - "Slumdog Millionaire"
2007 - "No Country for Old Men"
2006 - "The Departed"
2005 - "Crash"
2004 - "Million Dollar Baby"
2003 - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"
2002 - "Chicago"
2001 - "A Beautiful Mind"
2000 - "Gladiator"
1999 - "American Beauty"
1998 - "Shakespeare in Love"
1997 - "Titanic"
1996 - "The English Patient"
1995 - "Braveheart"
1994 - "Forrest Gump"
1993 - "Schindler’s List"

Let's at least give Frozen some credit for subverting the "fitting in" theme of Disney films, though. And also allowing girls to stand on their own.

On the flip side, after hearing all the praise, the girlfriend and I were a little disappointed that Elsa's arc was pretty half-baked. "Let It Go" is the biggest Disney song in a decade...but the song doesn't really hold true to the film's theme.

Yes.

Has it never occurred to you people that most people actually like this film? It's not like any family film was this successful.

I'm sorry, but it's so cute every time Jennifer Lawrence falls down. :)

Thought it was hilarious how Ellen kept mentioning it with details haha.

Add me as one more person that loved Frozen. It could've been much, much more, that's true, but it was still really well done, and I just can't get over that scene with the song "Let it Go." It totally got me.

Breaking a billion isn't that hard anymore, add in 3D, it's not really that surprising.

Wonder which will happen first. Leo winning an Oscar or Kanye winning the Album of the Year Grammy?
neither will ever happen :p

My work ran a contest to see who could guess the winners. I got 19 out of 24 correct. Pretty proud of myself. Missed documentaries, costume design, animated film, and original score. Not too shabby though for my first year paying attention to all the nominees.

What he say?

What did he say.

EDIT: Nevermnind

More specifically, Spacey was talking about how when you win an Oscar it feels like you're just speaking jibberish.

Kimmel quipped, "Like John Travolta tonight."

Spacey said, "Now imagine if he'd win an Oscar."

I think it was supposed to just be an off-handed reply to get the story on track, but it was pretty clear that Kimmel and the audience took it as a dig at Travolta, and Spacey seemed to realize it as well after a moment.
