A Compilation of Hilarious Animations in Mass Effect Andromeda

Biggest disappointment of the year easily, was so looking forward to this one

Its too early to know for sure but it has dampened by enthusiasm a tad. It could well be awesome we just don't know enough yet. I have Persona 5 coming so I was always going to wait - there are plenty of games to play and take the wait and see approach on this one. Best case - its awesome. Worst case its not great but then it will go on sale and you can join in the roasting :D

I'm convinced that at least part of the reason FemRyder looks so bad compared to other characters is because they purposefully tried to change her from the original model to something less attractive. I can only think that, like some of the posters on this site, someone at Bioware thought it would be particularly noble or virtuous to not make FemRyder too hot. No such concerns over male Ryder of course.

But whoever oversaw that 'opposite make over', so to speak, seemingly didn't have the talent to do it properly because they took her face careening into uncanny valley. If you're going to do something like that, you at least need to have the skill to pull it off.
What.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard all day man. You think she's unattractive therefore BW on purpose made her too ugly for the 'Feminists'? Uh... Hate to break this to you but quote unquote SJWS are not their only demographic to sell too.

Wait for reviews and full impressions, it might still be more than fine. The game might also be improved after the worst kinks and warts are patched out, so jumping into it later on is also a possibility

I sort of find myself in an odd position that way. I'd actually pay more to play a super wonky version of the game, with extra animation bugs, as long as there were no crashes or game-breaking issues. A Mass Effect comedy, if you will.

But it's hard for me to imagine that even months of patches will fix some of the issues that seem like they are fundamental to their animation solution. With that said, this is all speculation. Perhaps they are working on such fixes as we speak.

So for what it's worth the silly walk is not something that shows up only with female PC. I was wondering why male PC was getting such minor coverage in this thread - and honestly, I keep wondering! Is no one in the press and Access-subscribers circles playing as Scott, or is that that Sara players are less tolerant to such silliness? I expected "devs polished Sara less" to be the only explanation at some point but that totality is clearly false.

Wait I played 4 hours of the Trial - there is no hold shoulder button to stop time and pick powers is there? I played all 3 previous games almost never shooting guns (needs must of course) and just orchestrating powers from all sides lol I loved doing that. Didn't occur to me when I played the trial but yeah - bummer. I'll have to load it back up and experiment with the combat again.

Nah, why would you skip a game because of a few flawed animations. They will probably patch it. Many hated Mass effect 3 and I loved it.

I don't think they could ever patch animations. It doesn't make any sense from a business perspective. CDPR only did it for their GOTY version because they had the capital and goodwill. Which is a shame because the gunplay is pretty solid.

Here i was thinking i could make a cool character in andromeda, just like i did in 20 minutes in inquisition...

20 minutes i did something 1000 times better than the MAIN character made by PROFESSIONALS in modeling characters, made with a CC by the SAME FUCKING COMPANY, 3 years ago... 20 MINUTES I DID THIS:

B3taZLoIMAAn-Pr.jpg

This game screams " i dont give a fuck " dev work...

How can someone didnt said a word in bioware telling the people who made the models the eyes are completely garbage and lifeless? Its mindblowing and shows this company have no standards in quality.

Not to mention the same company did miles better just 3 years ago.

I am playing Horizon and you can see how much love they put in those characters. In andromeda looks like amateurs made this.

This is a character that you talk for like 10 minutes in Horizon, gives you a quest, shows how much they care about giving us something good.

What? What's been shown of the writing is good. Addison's one line is silly, but the writing is still great thus far.

Nah I've found the writing to be fairly bad overall. Addison is a low point but the rest bounces between being outright laughable and mediocre.

animation is universal. I think more 'bad' clips of the female are mainly due to her awfully modeled face

someone made a comparison of Addison without Homer's make-up shotgun.

The story and the writing is horrible on top of everything itt

We don't know if the full game is like that yet.

But it's hard for me to imagine that even months of patches will fix some of the issues that seem like they are fundamental to their animation solution. With that said, this is all speculation. Perhaps they are working on such fixes as we speak.

I don't think there'll be fixes for the animations in total, only the worst examples and bugs (backwards gun, gorilla walk, etc.).

I bet he loved the genocide options on the renegade path

:lol

That's good to know. Seriously, what do you think the purpose of photoshopped images like that one are? Or the butt comparison on page 55, or a full willingness to believe that a company would hire someone with no experience to be a lead animator and thus, she is the SOLE person to blame for all the issues with the animation, or conspiracy theories that the women are intentionally less attractive because "they were too hot." Do you not realize how transparent shit like that is? Or what would lead someone to believe any of it is valid?
That's cute how you felt the need to edit my post into whatever you wanted to get out of it. Fight on!

Since I'm not interested in derailing the thread any further I'd just like to point out that trying to start a witch hunt against that animator is bullshit of the highest order and to please abstain from going down that road y'all.

Now if we could just carry on with the funny gifs?

The Saboteur side mission is pretty garbage in how it's resolved. The Murderer side mission feels like a revision of the one from KOTOR. Some of the companion dialogue is bad and the banter comes across as bootleg Uncharted.

As someone else said earlier, calling it like I see it. I'm not gonna coddle gamer culture sexism.

Thank you.

Some people will never admit devs can be lazy. They can be over-worked, under-staffed, or mis-managed, but never lazy. The gaming industry is the one exception in the whole of humanity.

Well, the one on the right looks a bit like a specially tailored create-a-character. Which I'm sure is why they went with the model we have now, with a real person's likeness.

But they also must have done the facial animations before the switch, which is why there are awkward scenes e.g. Ryder smiling after being told
her father was dead.
They didn't account for the upturned corners of the model's mouth so it looks really inappropriate, and there's no time to correct every single facial animation.

I gotta imagine beta-Ryder will be patched out in not too long.

The one on the left doesn't look anything like the model whose likeness they used though :/

From what I've seen of streams of the trial, the game seems like it's written in "this is how out of touch companies think millenials speak", which is super jarring in a space opera.

But wich one is more likely? I don't think the devs were lazy, but i don't know, do you? This is just dumb speculation.

That's because the AAA games industry has an awful habit of overworking its employees with startling intensity. "Lazy" devs in these environments don't keep their jobs for long.

Between the wide eyed stares, emotionless faces, and poor animations, the choice of makeup on this character bothers me the most. It is the simplest thing to fix, yet someone looked at that and thought that was fine.

Well it really depends on who you're calling out here. There's incompetence, laziness, but there's also a shitload of people who work on a game like this. Is it the person in charge of the eye shaders, the team in charge of face modelling or the team in charge of animation? Or a combination of the three? And do you believe they're just lazy and don't care?

Because from what I've heard, EA overworks their employees like crazy, they don't exactly have time to sit around and be lazy.

I mean you're objective wrong from both having played it and following impressions.
The hell does objectively wrong mean? I find the writing to be subpar, maybe not horrible, but the shooting scene made me gag.

The only objectively youd have is if one reviews come out the majority of professional reviews seem to lean towards one way or the other, and ultimately these are all opinions.

So basically, there's:

- 10/10 supermodel sexy
- Lynchian, uncanny valley mannequin that can't emote properly and has perpetual coke eyes

I feel like there's a bit of space between these two.
People have an inherent unconscious bias against 'averageness', thus making more likely that results would go to one of the extremes.

It's the kind of makeup application that girls do when they're first learning - and I say this as someone who skirted the clown makeup line as a young teen. But it's really the eyes that are the main problem.

In a huge game Dev team in EA?

Anyone who ever works in entertainment production will tell you being lazy or incompetent in a multimillion project will get you fired quickly
Well except for executive producers and marketing execs...

Most problems stem from miscommunication, clash of egos, time/budget issues, and meddling by higher ups.

Tha fact the models badly animates and has dead eyes, dosn't have anything to do with the actual modelling.

Some people aren't just asking better eyes and better animation, they're asking the model to be the perfect standard of beauty. Is not the first time we see this, the same happened with Alloy.

I've put a couple hours into the trial now and the experience of playing the game is nowhere near as offputting as the experience of watching the game. At least on PC, the faces/animations don't feel nearly as awkward as these gifs would lead one to believe, and the combat/exploration is really fun in a way that ME has never been before. It costs $4.99 to try it for 10 hours on Access, anyone on the fence should at least give it a shot before pre-judging it based on a hyperbolic gif thread.

Edit: And yeah, I think the gifs are hilarious too

I think we can all agree on that.

Nah,we need to have much more diversity in the way women look in games.

I like Peebee's design in the video. She's not meant to have a beauty paegent face.

I don't know, but weren't Asari ment to be somewhat hot as part of the plot?

[...] Uniquely, the asari are known to be perceived as attractive to many other species. This may be because of shared physical characteristics (e.g., body shape for humans, skin color for salarians, head fringe for turians). [...]

Watched this game for like 40 minutes on a stream last nite. What an absolute wreck. And it's going to sell millions.
