A Hillary PAC is spending $1 Million to ‘Correct’ Commenters on Reddit and Facebook

To all the Hillary gloaters, I'll tell you one thing: r/politics is, and always will be, Bernie territory. OUR territory. The mods of r/politics have formally endorsed Senator Sanders for president. We will continue to control the front page with positive Bernie news. So before you start talking sh**t and bragging about your bitch's win, I'll have you know that we're well versed in downvote brigades. Say RIP to your karma.

Surely you've all seen this, right?

Please tell me you are repeating something said on reddit as a joke and aren't actually saying this.

Edit: Wait was the spoiler ninja-edited?

Clinton lying about sniper fire and praising a monster like Reagan for AIDS work aren't facts that can just be "corrected", so I don't see how this is really effective.

I added the spoiler out of fear someone thought I meant it.

And it's real and currently a wonderful circlejerk copypasta.

This is one of those things that I assume eveyone is doing, but you look so fucking stupid admitting you do it. It's like picking your nose.

Maybe it's because I don't base my politics on Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter, but I honestly don't think I care that Trump does it.

A lot of people do get there news from social media, and I imagine that will continue to increase as time goes on. Those are the people who could be hurt by this.

There's a shitload of misinformation disseminated online from all sides. I'm not surprised. Personally I don't see this much different than Bernie's massive brigade of online fans doing everything they can to set the 'record straight' for Bernie. At the same time it feels like it just feeds into a narrative for some people explaining why their candidate lost when the finer details are much more complex.

At the end of the day it's all politics anyway, ads hit the radio waves, television, etc. It was inevitable they'd hit online this way too.

It worries me that people think her campaign is the only one astroturfing.

Bernie has already developed a cult following.

Bernie fans will willingly go into a "Top Dinners under 600 calories" article and post in the comment sections about Bernie Sanders' civil rights records. Bernie doesn't need a PAC to do that.

The loophole is that it's free to post on reddit/twitter therefore it's not considered an indipendent expenditure? So now they're allowed to coordinate with the Clinton campaign? But don't they still have to pay these people making the corrections?

Also, can't they illegally coordinate because it's not difficult to do/hard to prove that they have coordinated?

I don't think having campaign affiliates getting into arguments on social media with an age demographic that has resoundingly rejected a candidate is the best way of reaching out to and winning over said age demo, especially given how that demo uses social media.

Then again, I'm not paid to advise political campaigns, so the hell do I know.

You can wear people down. It becomes much easier when you're paid to do it.

Being paid is why this whole insinuation this can't count as independent expenditure is an extreme case of self denial.

Why is this bad exactly? They could use the money to set up a website or something but those who hate Hilary aren't going to go look at it. There is a plethora of correct information online about Hilary already and these people obviously aren't viewing it if they are spreading misinformation and hate. So why not hire people to directly talk to these Hilary haters and the people who are reading their misinformation?

Seems more effective to me to be honest. If you don't want one of these people correcting your misinformation then maybe research what you're posting first.
