i'd also like to add that in my opinion alien 3 had the best opening title sequence of any of the four movies.

It's always the same story. The people that hate on Alien 3 so much are the whinners who can't accept newt and hicks are dead. Alien 3 was awesome. One of my favorites in the series actually. It brought back the intensity and suspence of the original. Oh, and for those who thing 4 was better.... LAME!

I can buy Newt and Hicks deaths. But I can't buy the way they happen. It's just so laughably contrived, from the escape pods on rails that were obviously NOT that way in Aliens...the Tetris shaped escape ship, designed to plummet into the ground like a rock should it unfortuantly wander into the gravitational pull of a planet. Sad thing is it didn't have to be that way.....the escape pods should have all gone off in different directions, with the opportunity there for a non-weaver sequel with Hicks, Bishop and Newt, with only Ripley landing on the planet.

As it is, it's just so fucking grim, it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Hicks being speared through the chest by a support strut...Newt drowning following a face-hugger attack...Bishop reduced to looking like a Micheal Myers mask.

If Scott is going to make another Alien movie, then just fucking make it already! Every year he says his 'in talks'.

I'm a huge fan of the Alien saga and I have to say that Alien 3 is my second favorite of the bunch. I've probably watched it the most in the quadrilogy. I love the cinematography, the music, the prison setting, and the dreadful feel of the third film. It would have been a prefect ending. Its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be... just like the matrix sequels

I agree completely with this (except the bit about the Matrix films). I really like some aspects of ALIENS, but when all is said and done, the Marines simply didn't act like believable Marines, Newt was annoying and squeaky, and it replaced the singular menace of the relative unknown (one alien) with sheer overwhelming numbers, which just felt cheap to me. To me the payoff wasn't nearly worth the buildup.

And also Bill Paxton is simply a wanker.
