A much better idea than PCs that mimic consoles.

Geometric-Crusher

"Nintendo games are like indies, and worth at most $19" 🤡
A console

with keyboard, mouse and controller included,

This console would have carrying handle, two docks; one dock would be in the living room and the other on a monitor in a bedroom or office.

Its exclusive games would be its secret weapon, that is, strategy games with next-gen graphics; on traditional PCs these games are low-budget games.

If the goal is to merge the two markets, doing so through a console with a keyboard is easier than a PC mimicking a console, due to the high level of consumer resistance

It would be a reverse move to Valve and Microsoft. Without a doubt, an idea that in a just world I would receive money for.

Yeah great idea, to sell a console with keyboard and mouse and RTS games to people that have never played with keyboard and mouse nor know about RTS games

Pass that weed bro

I've always said the PlayStation 15 will nearly have Windows 7 functionality at the current trajectory. But really I think PS3 tried that and it seemed to be more than Sony could support anywhere near launch

I see you're a bit slow, the RTS is meant to attract PC players, after all, console players would be guaranteed a spot.

Consoles already have keyboard and mouse support. If you want it just for the strategy games then the game can bundle a keyboard and mouse. It worked for Nintendo with several peripherals including a damn scale, some weird ring thing, and damn cardboard.

The problem is that the Kb/M isn't as popular as some people think it is and you'll just have a Kinect situation of bundling something most people couldn't care less about.

And you think PC gamers would flock to a console because of 1 or 2 RTS games with no mod support and paid online?

Pass the damn weed already!

Who the fuck wants to play a game with a keyboard?

Spoken like someone who's never played Frets on Fire. :lollipop_tongue:

LOL I primarily play on pc and use a controller/wheel. Barely ever play with keyboard. Oh and my games run better than on consoles and cheaper.

I just want the same experience running the pc version on consoles, everything else is basically DIY.

lucious lyon wtf GIF

Part of the issue is the set up too. I mean, if you have a PC you probably have a big desk of some sort vs a console that would usually be hooked up to a TV while you sit on the sofa or the bed etc so using a keyboard and mouse for gaming in that scenario isn't exactly ideal. Personally I also hate using trackpads so thats a no go for me at least.

The games that do support keyboard & mouse on console, anyone know how many people actually use that option?

Strategy games just don't have the mainstream acceptance as trad shooters and sports games. There is an audience for more slower, Chess/Checkers-like experiences, but it's a small audience.

You can't sustain a multi-billion dollar business on stuff that doesn't find a large audience. Xbox is literally proof of that. They're owned by a multi-trillion dollar company but they still need to find a large-enough audience to make their gaming business work. Layoffs, studio closures, project cancellations, marketing pullbacks etc. are all short-term solutions to a long-term problem.

Why? It's PC bros that are obsessed with mimicking the gaming lifestyle of us console bros, not the other way around.

Let's check this table math

Console:

Console comfy couch
Controllers

PC:

Frame rates above 60fps
Mouse and Keyboard support
Online gaming
Ray tracing
Any new graphical effects
hard drives
SSDs
VR
webcams and eyetoys

I bet the list goes on and on lol

This has the commercial viability of voluntary taxes but I won't lie: it'd cool if more devs support kb+m on console games. I'd play Civ 7 two times faster if they implement it.

It's always fascinating to observe people on this forum speculation about how other people want to play games, based on their own personal preference. Not just talking about this OP but in general, from all camps.

So a console and a PC hooked up and had a baby. That is one ugly baby.

Steam data consistently shows that mouse and keyboard input is the dominant input method for gaming, used in the vast majority of sessions. For example, 2021 data indicated over 10% of daily sessions involved controllers, meaning the remaining 90% or more used a mouse and keyboard. This dominance is especially true for genres like FPS and RTS games, while controllers are more popular for racing, sports, and fighting game.

However, I admire your objection because, in fact, not everyone would use it, but if such a feature could bring 15 million PC players to the console, that would be a victory.

Games are way better optimized for PS5 than PC. Monster Hunter Wilds can run in 120 fps in PS5. Also, most UE5 games stutter in PC.

Not interest in any game like that.

You can do all of that in PS5.

The user said that PC users are obsessed with copying consoles so I just listed a handful of features and tech that started on PC and consoles have copied after the fact.

So, in fact Consoles copy everything PC and when talking about online etc copy it and make it worse.

I guess that's what the user I quoted was talking about but maybe their trolling meant something else?

How are console gamers going to play kb/m games slouched on a couch?
they won't
They will have to use the controller that also came in the package.
We're so used to it that we forget that the Famicom already had two controllers included, and the SNES had them too.

The idea of a console designed for use with a monitor is key, but this means the games will need to have two presets:

Cinematic (for living room use) controller based
Competitive (for use with monitors) kb/m based
