A peek inside Notch's housewarming party

That is one nice house, even if a bit extremely gaudy and opulent.

"It’s not about the money. It’s about my sanity."

*Buys giant house in Beverly Hills and throws a celebrity-stuffed party.*

I used to really like him, but now I think he's lost it. Money certainly does that. Le sigh.

He was saying that quote about working.

He no longer works.

I see no problem with this.

As for "money certainly does that", you're acting like someone put a gun to his head and forced him to buy that house.

Now, we just need to wait for the downfall of Notch, and Scorsese has his next movie. I think Leo is a good fit for Notch. And I doubt the acting skills of Selena Gomez, but if there is one role she was born to do, it's playing Selena Gomez.

I'm glad this guy got to live the dream. Shame on all the people for looking down on him because he's enjoying his life and spending his money, but people on GAF always be judgin' yo.

Still gives me hope that someday, something I do will make me unbelievably rich. Kinda like that feeling when you buy a lottery ticket that just *maybe* you could win. The thoughts of what I'd do with that money and momentary happiness is worth the 2 bucks. Same feeling here.

He invited Jeff Minter!

Yes, that's me on the left.

Photography was banned at the party, aside from me. I pretty much just hung out with the people I work with on the music side (Zedd, Selena, Martin Garrix, Kill The Noise, 12th Planet, Dillon Francis, etc..). I don't know any people from the huge developer side invited, aside from Rob Pardo.

See above.

Please do, i'd love to make tons of money off of you. The same people that make Notch's GDC parties made this event, and invite the same people. So pretty much 80%+ are all game developers or game industry people, the rest are usually DJs/musicians.

Just a side note, all the photos were taken with a Canon G7X so if you notice it's not DSLR quality, I didn't want to be "that guy" with a giant ass camera roaming around ;)

This seems like information that might fit nicely into the OP? It covers a lot of the repeat comments happening here.

As for the house: I've always wondered if people actually live in something like this or if they mostly use it for events/parties. It's so much space for normal day-to-day stuff.

Man some of you are salty as all the fucks. If you spent 1/3 the energy on hating as you did improving yourselves you'd be in much better positions in life. Hatin ass mofos in this thread.

There were two other share holders. He owned something like 60% of the company. Then don't forget he has to pay captial gains tax. Capital gains tax in Sweden is 30%. So he ends up with something like 700 million dollars plus / minus.

300 mil short of billion from the guy who sold minecraft. While you are technically right he didn't make a billion from the deal it's splitting hairs because most people care whether or not he reached billionaire status which he definitely did.

I want your life. Phography? Dance music? Cool people? Well done. I'd say other than Notch, *you're* living the dream.

BTW It's cool that most of the people invited were devs. Hell, if I was in the industry I'd do the same thing. Do you have an estimate of how many people were there roughly? It doesn't look like there were more than maybe 100 or so.

You're goddamn right.
That man is literally living the geek dream. Though I saw on his twitter earlier that he's disappointed with his Tinder matches, all fakes.
Money can't buy love. Though it can buy almost everything else.
When you could buy your own arcade, who cares?

You want salt?

Read the comments to the article.

Some amazing "Money = Evil" comments in there.

But the party photo gallery itself is insane.

I noticed some of the cars in his garage don't have real licence plates on them. I guess they're just ornaments. very very expensive, sought after ornaments.

So he's already spent 10% of profit....

God damn do I wish I was as influential as Notch. Then I could buy a house like that and spend all day lounging around butt naked because goddamnit I'm Notch and it's my house.

I would not know where to begin with that amount of money. I hate parties and huge crowds so a lot would be heading to charity instead.

I am a dull dull person.

If he sold Minecraft in part because he was sick of being in the public eye and just wanted to do his own thing (and he said if he ever made a game that was popular again, he would stop development, etc), isn't it a little odd that he ended up buying a mansion in Hollywood?

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets paparazzi following him around when he goes out to lunch now. That's where all that stuff happens and he's just raised his public profile by 100x.

Is notch even a billionaire? Loads of sites claim he is, but doesn't he have to pay 60% of the $1.5bn he got for the Mojang deal in taxes?

Look at all those hollywood hipsters, disgusting.

Notch is good people though, hopefully that town doesn't change him.

Paparazzi don't care bout gaming dev "celebs". Notch ain't Kardashian. No soccer mom would want to read about his life and new fedora.
