We have come full circle!
Oh damn, lol

This is what the symbol that has been removed on the EU LE boxes via stickers means.

The "online functionality" on the left does NOT mean online multiplayer, it means stuff like sharing data, uploading saves/scores, things like that.

This is extremely important. They covered the online multiplayer part on EU cover knowing it was no more available. But they "forgot" to tell us a part of game features was not going to be ingame anymore.

At most, his skirting tweets buy him 2 weeks to implement instances, good luck.
So something that was supposed to be very rare now has to have its percentage of it happening increased why????

Because the people demand it? The guy said don't go into it looking for a multiplayer experience, you don't get anymore to the point than that outside of the "single player" icon on the back of box.

From that article.

Two years is a long time, things change. But he has repeated the possibility multiple times. And is not clearing it up now, which is a major problem. This is why developers need PR people I guess.

“We keep talking about Jack’s dad from Lost, basically just to see them in the distance. Like, ‘Did I? What?'” Murray said.

That does not sound like you can coordinate a meet-up at all... but the game can possibly, randomly ghost someone there, or a ghosted remnant of someone.

Why are you twisting words?

The feature just needs to exist because they advertised it. It looks like it doesn't. Simple as that. Nothing to do with the odds at all.

I thought the notorious GAF forum knew things change in development stages. People will just ignore the video though. It's already happening.

Sean never once said "sorry, our development focus shifted and now those features are no longer in the game." He just quietly started downplaying them more and more.

It's not a lie if you clarify.

If he would've said "unfortunately, those earlier interviews where I said you could play with your friends and even grief others were a bit premature, we're not going to be able to include that at launch," this whole thread would've never happened.

Yep. Instead he tweeted something like "holy shit two players already found each other!!!1" (when they actually didn't).

Game devs advertise a lot of things that never end up in games, I don't understand why such a tiny tiny thing out of the whole game is being such a big deal that people are acting like they are trying out for the junior varsity GG team.
Apparently for some people this wasn't a tiny thing.

What's more important and worse, however, is the deceitful information they spread via their twitter and the refusal to answer a simple question.

“There was always this sort of joke between everyone—’the bullshit in the press again,’” said Sean
Cooper, one of the first employees at Molyneux’s first game company, Bullfrog.
“But it wasn’t really bullshit—it was more stretching the truth.”

A lot of game boxes last gen said 1080p, doesn't exactly make it so.

No, because he said that feature was there in the first place, and then was vague about them fully taking it out.

This is ALL Sean has to say "Players can see each other, we're just having trouble with the servers" or "Players can not see each other, we don't have that feature anymore"

He's not being 100% direct for a reason you know.

Same can be said why something not so tiny, is being purposely over looked and disregarded by some.

What's this whole sticker thing about

Some European boxes of the game came with a sticker covering up the "online play" icon. They were printed prematurely before plans changed and the promised multiplayer was completely removed from the game, so they needed to be corrected with a sticker.

Other European boxes don't have a sticker and are printed correctly (lacking that online icon).

I was going to support the game simply because the tech is amazing, but the fact that the developers are being coy about the game's features is a deal breaker.

Gamers should know what they're purchasing for $60.

I'm going to pass. I don't have confident in Hello Games anymore.

Ah, thanks.

What the fuck kind of response is this? How hard is it to say "yes you can see each other, no it isn't working right now."

With this total non response and the stickers covering up the online label, its getting harder to give Sean the benefit of doubt.

This dude seriously came out this morning and said "Huh, two players found each other already? Neat. Wow, our game is popular though, huh?"

If Sean is being coy because it's not ready yet (or ready but broken) and he didn't think people would notice, he's just being a jerk. Just come out and say it.

If you happen to have a Roland Deschain/Man in Black moment where you think you MIGHT see someone off in the distance, it was very rare, there but out of reach..

I don't think the guy ever said you would be able to walk up to each other and hang out.

In the Colbert interview (skip to 5:40), arguably the most high profile interview this game has ever gotten, which happened about 10 months ago (not years and years ago), Sean clearly and directly addresses both:
1-being able to see other players (yes);
2-can you run into other players in the game (yes);

This is huge marketing/awe-inspiring carrot to dangle in front of a huge audience, many of whom won't follow a game's developer's twitter account in the lead-up of a release.

If it turns out it's not true, that's a bad look for sure. Those that are saying you shouldn't buy a game based on an unlikely scenario are missing the point that many were buying into this game based on awe-inspiring possibilities and discovery. That's a big one that'd keep players LOOKING.

If it turns out it IS true and possible, it's an amazingly cool thing that two people found each other day 1 against such incredible odds. Shame if tech problems are the reason a rare meeting wasn't actually had.

But yeah, the silence on answering a direct question is deafening and I can't help but assume Sony is keeping the tape over Sean's mouth until reviews on PS4 and PC start rolling out first.
This is the video I remember. He specifically stated that the only way you'd know how you looked was if someone else saw you. So yeah, that might be just a tad misleading unless it is in fact true and those guys who tried to meet up didn't for the reasons people are assuming (different time/instance, etc.).

Story? What? I'm three planets and 3 hours into the game and have yet to see any story.

Story develops as you progress through more star systems, not more planets.

Also I found lots of story content
Atlas messages, Atlas backstory, alien backstory, dialogue from aliens who gave me upgrades
on my very first star system.

It's a broad, procedural game so not everyone will see everything at the same pace.

Is not being able to see another player face-to-face going to make you cancel your preorder or demand a refund.

That's really what this comes down to.

Is the lack of that one "feature" enough to make you hate No Man's Sky and Sean? Are they going to be forever tainted in your minds?

[Keep in mind, this may just be a bug or server stress. We don't even know for sure what's going on. HG themselves might not know what's going on yet.]

Here you go, stopping the mysterious stuff.
But that's still mysterious.

Well, first of all, it's wrong, because those two guys didn't find each other in the game.

And if you're so damn sure about this not being mysterious, can I quote you again when it's clear it's definitely impossible to meet each other?

It's quite the experience to see some people thoroughly enjoying this game, while others parse through every detail to see if and how it was followed up on by the developers. They then proceed to renounce the game, the developer and Sean Murray.

Anyways, I frankly don't care whether or not there is multiplayer in this game. I always viewed this as a game you are meant to experience "alone."

I was never aboard the hype train, but I actually have had my interest level increased since the game has been released. I look forward to giving it a go.

Move on, guys, the only muliplayer thing related to NMS you'll see is this thread in which multiple users can post at the same time and interact with each other.

[Keep in mind, this may just be a bug or server stress. We don't even know for sure what's going on. HG themselves might not know what's going on yet.]

Well, why can't he just tell us if the two people not seeing each other is because of server stress or not instead of addressing that it happened and then going on to talk about how cool and popular his new game is?

Story develops as you progress through more star systems, not more planets.

Is there an story ? Just thought it was Minecraft on space , with a bland plot to reach the center of universe like the "plot" on Minecraft

Copy arrives tomorrow and my main goal
Is to just go around the universe

What's this whole sticker thing about

People seeing "Online" and "Single Player" on the PS4 box having and argument.

Don't know why it's a thing though when he clearly said in multiple interviews there would be multiplayer but, clearly the game and the box show that just doesn't exist. And Sean keeps acting like: "BUT YOU CAN!"

His definition of "playing with your friends" is a bit uh, well odd.

PS: Hey can people that defend this game so hard stop saying anyone that doesn't agree with you is involved with Gamergate? Thanks.
