Oh you mean World of Ice and Fire thread.

Hey Cornballer, we don't have to spoiler stuff from that in here right? This thread includes All Books. I don't think anyone ever spoilered Dunk and Egg stuff, so this should be fair game?

I don't see why any of it would need to be spoiler tagged. Should be fair game in here.

Just bought Dangerous Women, Rogues and The World of Ice and Fire.
So much new stuff to read, not sure how to tackle it :)

Not that my opinion has any weight here, but I started this thread with the intention that EVERYTHING that's been released could be written without spoiler tags. Once something is published, the idea was, that this thread would be something you read at your own peril.

That's what he said.

Hooray, got the book today. This is really nice quality, definitely a worthy purchase for any fan. I'll delve into it later.

Wow, the Rogues anthology is quite a ripoff if bought only for the GRRM story. It is only 30 pages long :(
The book cover advertises this new story of the Game of Thrones series and GRRM's name so heavily and then the story is so short...

I strongly suspect that most of The Rogue Prince was stuff cut from The Princess & the Queen. For a story ostensibly about Daemon Targaryen, it spends an awful lot of time not talking about Daemon Targaryen.

I just read the previous novella while in Barnes And Noble, I'll do the same for this one eventually.

I just saw that there were graphic novels for the sworn sword and the hedge Knight? have they been discussed here before? are they any good?

I'd also like to know. I listened to the audio books and those were amazing, so I'd like to think the comics are good too.

Those Amazon reviews are rough.

I don't really get the complaints about the writing. I mean it's just recounting history, it's not complicated. Reads fine to me so far. Also seems like some people are confused as to what this is supposed to be. From a two star review:

sigh. Some people just can't appreciate world building.

So GRRM has basically confirmed that
the wolf pack
is a big deal.

"You know, I don't like to give things away." says Martin, a grin spreading across his face. "But you don't hang a
giant wolf pack
on the wall unless you intend to use it."

Excellent! Get that book out GRRM!!

Nymeria
. It confused me too for a sec because I thought the wall he as talking about was the wall. But it's a reference to a quote by Chekhov: "If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there."

Classic case of Chekov's Gun.
Arya's definitely going to warg into Nymeria and lead the wolf pack at some point

Nice. Makes me wonder if we'll see this in the prologue.

TWOW speculation+Mercy chapter spoiler:
He has already said Jeyne Westerling will be in the prologue (not as the POV). In AFFC, Jaime orders a large group of soldiers to escort Jeyne to the Crag, which isn't a short journey. We know Nymeria and her wolves are near Riverrun.

Also an interesting note from the Mercy chapter:
The smell of blood was heavy in her nostrils… or was that her nightmare, lingering? She had dreamed of wolves again, of running through some dark pine forest with a great pack at her heels, hard on the scent of prey.

Prologue=POV of some Lannister maester riding with the army, dies in a massive wolf attack (and perhaps sees Nymeria carry Jeyne off). Then later the first Mercy chapter=Arya wakes up after the attack, as the pack hunts surviving soldiers through the woods.

The other possibility: Red Wedding 2.0 at Riverrun. The BWB has already infiltrated the castle. Perhaps they open the gates and the wolves rush in from nowhere

Which is true for just about everything he includes in the book. I've said it before but all those "random, useless characters" new readers tend to complain about are pretty much always of some use or do something of note down the road if Martin bothers to give them even a few lines and/or they continue to show up again and again. I only started to appreciate that on a re-read.

I'm still waiting for the food subplot to develop somewhere, but I'm sure he's getting there. You can't just have a character love lemon cakes and not have her murder someone with a lemon tree as the old saying goes.

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series - Teaser Trailer

Today we can announce that some cast members of the television series will reprise their roles in the game. While you’ll get to control five members of House Forrester in your story, the series will have you interacting with characters you already know and love (or hate) throughout the season, including Tyrion Lannister performed by Peter Dinklage, Cersei Lannister performed by Lena Heady, Margaery Tyrell performed by Natalie Dormer, and Ramsay Snow performed by Iwan Rheon. Additional cast members will appear in later episodes… as for who and when? That would spoil the surprise!

House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North — the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’, which echoes their belief that — like the ironwood itself — the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.

The game will be played from five different points of view. Each is a member of House Forrester; either a direct family member, or a person in service to the House. Scattered across Westeros and Essos, each will play their part in seeking to save House Forrester from destruction.

Playing as five characters not only reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but is also something that you’ll need to be mindful of as you play through the season. This is because the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you’re truly playing the Game of Thrones… where you win, or you die.

Stolen from gaming.

Saw something interesting GRRM said about the world of asoiaf I'd never seen before:

"Interviewer : Is your world round? I mean if Dany traveled far enough east couldnt she come to the other side of westeros?

GRRM : Yes, the world is round. Might be a little larger than ours, though. I was thinking more like Vance's Big Planet.... but don't hold me to that."

Vance's Big Planet has a diameter about 3 times that of Earth apparently.Never thought of it being that big. All the known world in AWOIAF must be a really small part of the whole planet.

This is really interesting, actually.

On the other hand, GRRM has never really been good with distances/measurements...

Has anyone run the numbers yet to get an approximate width on the world as we know it, from Pyke in the west to Asshai in the east? I mean, it's pretty clear we haven't seen any of the Southern Hemisphere, so the world's at least twice as large as what we've seen, but I wonder how close to 3x Earth we are in terms of the width of the continents now.

I thought the stuff in WoIaF about how ancient architecture in Asshai matched stuff in the Iron Islands and Oldtown kind of implied there was a direct route between those areas, without any sort of "Americos" in between, but who knows.

Most people who've tried to calculate it with measurements from the book actually end up with planet sizes around 3/4ths the size of Earth. But either way if you try to slap the map onto a globe you only end up covering about a fourth of the planet's surface area.

But at that point you're making so many assumptions about the nature of climates on Planetos, the kind of map projection used, and so on that it hardly matters anyway. Probably best just to say that the maesters are shitty cartographers and not try to apply too much science to it.

So, I finally finished reading the books the other week. I only had read the German version and only up to book 4ish (all 5 books are split into two in the German version).
I am fully up to date now, IceAndFireGAF. Hug me.

Also fully plan on getting World of Ice and Fire in the next couple months.
