I can't claim the impoverished background of some posters, but I have been through some pretty lean times in my life. Each of those times, there was a possibility of eating shit to get by, but I always chose not to, even though it was scary, and in retrospect I am happy with all of those decisions.

I keep trying to find a witty way to go about this post, but I think I'll just get into the essentials:

1. GAF is not one homogenized being.
2. This thread has been full of some pretty damn good advice.
3. Most of the people are ripping him a new asshole because OP asked for advice, rejected a lot if not all of it, and then stated that we just don't understand. Why even make a thread in the first place.

I will say that yes, a lot of posters are overly harsh one way or the other, but that is because this is the internet. Aside from Avatars and some tenure or whatever, the most direct way to make people notice your posts is to be either loud, witty, controversial, or some combination of those three. Being loud or controversial are the easiest. Thacker has been on the internet for quite some time now, so I think he has the "backbone" to do it.

Called it. Went too far. Oh well. Hopefully he learns from this and tries to better himself unless he truly is a troll character. It's sad really... Maybe he has lot of potential and it's being squandered by his pride and ego.

Seriously, anybody who's in here looking for advice:

Dress for Success isn't just about what clothes you're wearing. It's also about how you present yourself. If you want a job then go get it, don't wait for it to come to you. Sitting around for 45 minutes is waiting... ask the receptionist how long the process will be or if they need to reschedule. Timidly waiting for someone to tell you what you need to know is not the hallmark of a reliable and independent employee.

Maybe OP can learn from this experience.

I totally agree. This whole thing could've been avoided if he took some initiative and asked the secretary. I can't understand why he couldn't do something that simple
