About the Enix side of Square Enix......

truly101

I got grudge sucked!
Why are the Enix brand games like Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean 2 and DW7 not on PSN? Any chance we'll see the PS2 games for download sometime? Probably not. I know they've re-released the DQ games on the DS but they've pretty much ignored the US market as far as these games go. Why?

Those games have full-price re-releases on PSP, a platform that can play PS1 games from the store. There's your reason.

Years ago, on a dead system and that still didn't stop them from releasing them on the Japanese PSN. Some reason they couldn't release them now, especially with the Vita? Need a better reason

EDIT: Hey, look at FFT available on PSN and there's a PSP version too. Thats just cray.

Valkyrie Profile PSP and Star Ocean PSP are not on the US PSN store. Why do they refuse to put either version up?

I am thinking it is probably a weird rights thing. Someone somewhere did a contract that made it so that unless SE wants to pays lots of money, they aren't going to re-release those games unless it is a big production where they might get their money back.

DQVII still could likely come to 3Ds in the west. They wouldn't want DW7 on PSN at a cheaper price to compete with that.

Well, they did give us re releases of illusion of gaia, terranigma, and actraiser 1 &2. Not much use in asking for new Star Ocean or Valkyrie Profile installments since square enix obviously isn't interested in those franchises anymore

I know I really want Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, EVO, and 7th Saga on Wii VC. With the Wii U VC going on the time is still ripe to see these games appear. Something must be done!

And they opted for a collection on Wii rather than going through VC, so I do think they're kind of cold on putting that on DD.

Still, there's a lot of stuff not there, and it's just frustrating period how little pre-PSPgo of SE's stuff is up there. It'd be great to get the FFs and Star Oceans there, but nope.

The two HUGE omissions are obviously Kingdom Hearts and Crisis Core. I suspect it has to do with licensing problems (either Disney or Utada Hikaru for KH, that terrible singer for Crisis Core) and that effing sucks.

This is a large part of the reason I am holding off on buying a Vita. KH, SO1 + 2 remakes, Crisis Core, and VP are all mysteriously absent... there has to be a reason, right?

I need Dragon Quest VII 3DS to come over here because:
a) It's the only mainline DQ game I haven't played outside of DQX.
b) I'm not thinking of importing a Japanese 3DS in the near future.

But in all honesty, everything I've heard about DQ7 in general sounds right up my alley, and I'm really psyched to play it one of these days. Nintendo or SE have to throw me a bone here.

How have you not played DQ7!

You should probably get a JP 3DS anyway, though, because as time goes on, fewer things are going to get translated.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why they wouldn't put up a bunch of their PSone and PSP releases. You would get a boost in sales for almost no work. Nobody is still buying new copies of those games. I don't think they understand that demand and interest in titles wanes over time. Just because stores aren't ordering more copies doesn't mean you shouldn't throw it up digitally. It will get people interested again. They just seem very old fashioned about it. The digital release of VP isn't going to impact your old ass release for the PSP. That had its time and passed. Now is your chance to sell it..AGAIN.

Who knows what the long term plan is. I mean it's pretty clear Square-Enix avoided putting Final Fantasy X on the classics so they could come out with the HD remaster retail release. But for stuff like Dragon Quest 7, why wouldn't you just toss it up there? Maybe to not cannabalize the sales of the 3DS version? What about Dragon Quest 8?

When I'd finally saved up the money to buy it when I was younger, it was already sold at the EB Games that I wanted to buy it at. It's one of my biggest gaming regrets. I should just get a used copy of the PS1 version one day and be done with it, but when I'd realized that DQ7 3DS existed, I was just going to wait on that. Ah well.

I was thinking of getting one eventually for the same reason. Part of me wants to wait until someone somehow figures out how to disable the region-lock, but then part of me hears how neat Fantasy Life is, and I feel the need to import the system.

this is the game he reminded me of.

so many good memories coming back. Such a fun game.

edit:

Wow. You're in for a good surprise.

edit2:

No, Bust a Groove was the game.

Holy shit man, you just took me back with that. I loved this game. I had literally, utterly forgotten about it. have to find a copy now.

The Heat is On, man. Gotta Bust that Groove! ;)

Nope, it was indeed Enix. Avex Trax with the gdlk music.

The only reason I haven't done it yet is because I'm paranoid about price drops and redesigns. With US DS/3DS releases I just buy every upgrade day one because I'm obsessive and want to have every model, I don't think I'd want to do that for the Japanese systems but I dunno if Nintendo will release another 3DS design sometime soon or drop the price in Japan or something. Probably not, and I'm pretty confident they won't at this point. But there's still the option of waiting until the end of the 3DS's lifecycle and picking up a Japanese system and a bunch of import games for cheap.

Also, to everyone talking about recent remakes, didn't Capcom release Final Fantasy IV on the Wii's Virtual Console when they were still releasing the DS/PSP versions of that game? And yeah, that was on a different platform, but so is DQ7.

That's the game he's talking about and I'd pretty sure SqEx still own the IP rights for Bust A Groove/Bust A Move

(not puzzle bobble, to be clear)
