So I don't know if this may have been brought up already, but concerning the mystery facility that Ward and Co. broke into : (speculation)
could it be a SWORD facility? I mean, they're basically the Men in Black of the Marvel U. so it would explain why they were holding an alien body. Plus they are a Whedon creation.
I think that's entirely possible, especially considering Fiege & Co. have been
setting up cosmic Marvel fairly heavily. SWORD was also already mentioned in an alternate ending to Thor, I believe.

Although since it was originally introduced in Astonishing X-Men, can Marvel Studios use it?

This is what I'm pulling for.

Paxton and the black Agent Triplett can take over for May and Ward. Ward is unsalvagable and May is terrible. Its a shame about May she would have been great if they made her really motherly but secretly badass.

Since it is obvious that the tie in to Captain America 2 was the inspiration for the creation of the show and that the first 10 episodes were spent just trying to build up the characters while we wait for The Winter Soldier "Uprising" Arc. And the fact that a Season 2 of AoS wouldn't have any movies to tie into, I really hope they don't start the show till November and minimize the breaks inbetween episodes and do 5-6 episode mini arcs inside a much larger ongoing arc if they do another 22/23 episode season.

I'd like to see two major arcs. One standalone one and one connected to Avengers 2. That way they can have their break and we can have our MCU world building.

Seems incredibly likely now.

Ward killing that dude just because the Clairvoyant pressed his buttons was one of the dumbest things this show has ever done. And it pisses me off, because otherwise it could have been one of the best episodes yet.

I'm pretty sure it's not part of the deal with Fox. It's not like Fox can claim everything that appeared in a single X-Men comic once. After all, the Maximoff siblings also originated in X-Men, and they're going to be in Avengers 2.

I think so since they created after the X-Men rights were already sold, so anything that comes after (as long as it's not "mutant" related) is fair game. I mean,
Department H
was name-dropped last episode and that's basically something from Wolverine's origin.

Would it be redeemed if they revealed Ward as a traitor?

It's pretty ridiculous that the only reason anyone's upset at him is because he violated orders, not because, y'know, he straight-up executed a defenseless man with no semblance of due process.

Given this and the torture/killing our heroes engaged in two episodes ago, the writers seem not to know the distinction between "badass" and "morally problematic at best."

Ah, ok. I really don't understand how these deals really work. :p Haha.

Only if Skye goes on to hate-scissor Simmons as a way to cope.

Only Simmons isn't at the Bus (or anything reachable)

Er...... You soon see why SHIELD is as ruthless as sometimes it is.

They also believed him to be The Clairvoyant at the time... and probably most of them (the clean ones at least) still do. So in their eyes it would seem justified.

It sounds like their take on SHIELD's typical moral ambiguity characterization, just without any kind of nuance or insight beyond making it seem like they really don't give a shit.

It's something that could be interesting for a prime time show, but they're mostly just ignoring it and making it seem lazy/underdeveloped.

GungHo

Single-handedly caused Exxon-Mobil to sue FOX, start World War 3
Bill Paxton put on some pounds after losing his three wives...

I am trying to come up with a joke about keeping three women happy that won't make me sound like a misogynist, but I can't, so I'm just gonna go with "click here if you like this post".

I assume the next episode will get a nice ratings bump because of Captain America. They need to be advertising this as the continuation of the movie.

For as much grief as I give AoS, it has done a good job of motivating me to go out and see The Winter Soldier ASAP. So congrats, you Marvel devils!

I just came back from seeing it. It's definitely worth it to watch The Winter Soldier in the theater. It's a genuinely great movie. I personally rank it higher than Avengers, though I think most people would likely disagree with me.

It might be above Avengers for me as well, but I'm not sure. It's tied with Avengers as of now but I really need to re-watch it a couple more times to be sure it's above it.

I think Avengers is a grander version of Winter Soldier.

It's like Jeff Cannata said. The Avengers was the best Captain America movie, best hulk movie, best Thor movie.

Well, Winter Soldier has made the Avengers the second best Captain America movie.

After seeing WS, here's my theories.

1. Pretty obvious that Hand is part of HYDRA, which is why she pulled Jasper out in the last ep. But who else? Garrett and Tripp seem clean, but Blake seems like a possibility, especially since he put the tracer round on Dethlok which led the team to the race course where they set up Nash. Ward is another big possibility, and it'll be interesting to see where they go with it, building up the Ward/Skye relationship...

2. As seen in the clip, May is trying to get in touch with Fury. But why does she seem so coy about it? This is likely because unlike the rest of the team, May is aware of the HYDRA infiltration, and is trying to keep everyone else in the dark for their own protection so they don't become targets (too late, once Coulson found out the truth). This is why Fury, Hill, and others set up the Guest House (which will likely become SWORD), as a countermeasure if the HYDRA infiltration destroyed SHIELD (which, of course, it did)

3. WIth SHIELD looking for outside help, Coulson turns to the one person he can trust. The Cellist. And 20 bucks says, since they haven't said her real name, that it ends up being Carol Danvers. With them introducing SWORD and (probably) the Kree, bringing in Miss Marvel is a likely next step.

The Winter Soldier spoilers that connect to Agents of SHIELD:

I'm going to assume that Centipede is a cover for HYDRA, like SHIELD was all along.

Read a speculation from a page or two that Arnim Zola is the Clairvoyant - I can get behind this, and it would be clever of Marvel to get Zola in the show. Realistically, I think it'll be Victoria Hand who takes orders from him (or Alexander Pierce) directly. Fingers crossed for a Toby Jones guest appearance if it really is Arnim Zola.

TWS really shakes things up throughout the MCU with essentially disbanding SHIELD. With events in later episodes directly connected to what happened in TWS, what becomes of Coulson and the Bus crew? Fury/Avengers clean-up crew?

I'm glad Marvel took a chance and lined up the show to events in TWS. This could either be amazing. This is what I was excited about when I read about Agents of SHIELD having connections to the main Marvel movies.

Holy moly, if all of this becomes true then AoS is redeemed for any crappy plotlines they've had.

What I'm wondering is how this show will hold up years from now on standalone viewings apart from the Marvel films. Now that the show is fully embracing the MCU, will it be able to be viewed on its own without feeling too much like a puzzle with half of its pieces missing?

I feel like it's going to be a situation where it's expected that you watch the show alongside the movies on second viewings.

Speculation, spoilered as it is based on alleged show spoilers that went around a while back:

Coulson could end up being Fury's back-up plan for rebuilding SHIELD in case it was compromised at the core. The show could play it as Agents in Exile as the crew tries to build new connections and a network. Skye could be perfect for devising a fresh SHIELD trust web with security failsafes.

If HYDRA is the main enemy for the MCU and is behind all false flag operations, the Bus crew could also go on a revenge hunt for HYDRA operations around the world having nothing left to lose. If the typical comic plotlines are followed, SHIELD will be rebuilt again with a new director.

A twist though could be that Coulson and co. do not trust the new SHIELD and become counter-agents, continuing to take their real orders from an underground Fury.

I feel like in the future people will likely be binge viewing (DVD or Netflix) so it should come together well even without the movies. Regardless there will be people around to give suggested viewing order to those who are watching the show for the first time. I see it every other series already.

Thats what I and my friends have been thinking, that essentially from S1 end and on that this show will be all about rebuilding Shield, or at the very least till they're fully established again.

Although I do wonder if they will build SHIELD to be as big as it was before, or just want to rebuild it as a much smaller but still powerful group. One that has a far less chance of being infiltrated by HYDRA.

Less compartmentalization would be a good start.

TWS spoiler
really wish they would establish in the movies that Coulson is alive again,
just such a weird disconnect there.

He is supposed to be a main connection yet its like movie Coulson is dead and this is just another interpretation of the character like he is on Ultimate Spiderman.
Don't really need him back in the movies but just acknowledge it.

I would expect Coulson will show up for Avengers 2. He commented on the show that even the avengers weren't high enough clearance to know he was alive. Then he specifically tells Sif not to say anything to Thor that he wants to be the one to tell him.

So someone brought this up on the The Winter Soldier thread on the SHIELD subreddit:

They basically said what if Agent Hand, ISN'T Hydra, but she thinks that Coulson and Co are Hydra. Now to be fair, she did send Sitwell to the Lemurian Star, but eh, maybe it's possible.
