What a fantastic finale. Loved just about everything. Garrett getting superpowered and losing his fucking mind was awesome, and then him turning into a Cyborg and getting blown up was gold.

Ward getting his ass kicked was gold.

Loved Fury.

Loved the team kicking ass.

Deathlok finally getting free was good.

Such a great episode.

I wonder what those circle/line things Coulson was drawing was about

The first 15 minutes were a bit meh, but everything else was AWESOME.

Thoughts
-Raina is amazing, I hope she's a big part of S2.
-Ian on the other hand, I hope he gets his comeuppance quite soon.
-Garrett's death was HILARIOUS.
-Simmons and Fitz's stuff was pretty intense. Elizabeth Henstridge doesn't get enough credit.
-I still don't know I feel about Tripp. Hopefully he gets some development.
-I'm glad Ward didn't die, and I'm glad they didn't instantly welcome him back to the team. He'll have some interesting stuff for S2.
-Speaking of, his fight with May was crazy!
-Fury's entrance was pure Jackson. I love him as Fury, but I'm glad he'll be in the background for a bit. It'll give him some new stuff to work with.
-Still don't care about Deathlok/Mike/Ace.
-Twin/clone(?) Koenig! :D
-Skye's bloody father, eh? Hmmmmmmmm...
-Coulson's promotion to Avenger AND Director of SHIELD is pretty awesome. I hope that means he'll be in the second Avengers movie.
-But what's up with his crazy alien(?) writing? Mysterious~
-Maria Hill for season 2 regular please!

Overall, I am so happy I stuck with the show. Once it got it's groove and realized that people want to see it be heavily serialized, with meaningful connections to the MCU, it really began to shine. Anyone wondering if they should give this show another chance, the answer is an emphatic YES.

Now, hopefully season two will get down to business right off the bat. That goes for Agent Carter too.
Those are pretty much my impressions, too, so there's no need to repeat that again (although I'll gladly echo my desire for more Maria Hill).

Some stray musings:

-I'm largely annoyed by the way they are handling Skye's mystery. Writers (or Marvel, whoever is responsible of this) need to understand that dragging it this long doesn't increase the drama, but makes it tedious and boring. Just throw us a bone, guys (preferably not of the Garrett variety).
-Action scenes were considerably better than those of all the previous episodes combined. Neat.
-Koenig baffles me. Is he a LMD?
-I didn't expect Garrett to put himself together after being curb stomped by Deathlok. Actually, I thought for a moment that he was bagged along the rest of the bodies. His demise was cool enough to make me forget that, though.
-I hope that Coulson being the new director of SHIELD/part time Avenger means that Marial Hill will be in charge of operations. Oh yeah.
-Elizabeth Henstridge's acting was outrageously good, specially when you consider the average quality of the cast. When an actor of her caliber gets something meaty they basically eclypse everybody else. It happened the same with Jaimie Alexander's fierceness. Hats off. Iain was also fairly good, too.
-Fitz got friendzoned so hard he got hypoxia. Let her go, man. Just let her go.

More episodes like this one, pls.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
They are just building to the epic moment when Simmons finally succumbs to her Fitz-lust, and the rest of the characters are left feeling incredibly uncomfortable by the constant sex noises permeating the entirety of the Bus.

I enjoyed the season finale a lot. Teasing Skye's big secret is a bit lame, but everything else was good. Really liked Fury/Coulson and their dialogue. And that Garret blow-up, LOL! Reminded me of the Buffy episode with Dracula.

All in all, the season at first was pretty bad, but after Turn Turn Turn the series finally started being fun. So yeah, season 2 I'm there.

This show desperately needs a shorter episode order. 17 episodes pls.

It just needs better pacing and development. The show was basically in a holding pattern while waiting for TWS. Next season resolves that by separating it into two arcs, and there's nothing the show relies on to get somewhere in the story since Age of Ultron probably won't involve SHIELD very much.

Still not got around to that one.

Shit, sorry. But yeah there's a reason he's not in his normal fancy jacket and stuff.

Friendzoned to the very end. Oh Fitz. Now Triplett is gonna be hitting that while you sleep in the medical ward.

Don't know off the top of my head ... but with all the talk of evolution and the fact they can't specifically use 'mutants' ... it's Inhumans
The mention about Skye's parents being monsters makes me believe that they are Inhumans turned by the terrigen mysts. It makes plenty of sense when you think about it. AV Club also made the good point of bringing Raina's comment about what is she to become.

I just hope they don't drag that shit till Avengers 2 or (God forbid) the Inhuman's own film. We've been fed with enough plot BS already just to put the show in the same schedule as Cap 2, there's no need to keep dragging it for another season.

And then Fitz wakes up in the medical ward and sees Simmons in Namor's arms.
I'd just shot myself in the head then and there.

It's long been rumored that Marvel has been wanting to bring Inhumans to the MCU to take the place of mutants, as they can't use the m-word.

Part of that rumor is that the recent large comic push for the Inhumans was to help facilitate this.

I also suspect that if we're right part of the reason we didn't get a lot of closure on Skye is that they were not allowed to use the word Kree or any element of the cosmic universe until it's been properly unveiled in Guardians of the Galaxy.

100% for it. Mutants and X-Men need to go away for a while.

I don't disagree that the X-Men are overdone, but mutants are a very core part of the Marvel universe. Replacing them with Inhumans -- which aren't that popular -- is just shoehorning.

I would prefer if they just skipped over that part of the Marvel universe instead of using a sub-par replacement.

Yup, that's exactly my thinking

Interesting ... I'll have to look that up. I'm admittedly not a huge follower of this end of the Marvel universe.

This.

My hope is that enough back story is divulged in GotG that they aren't hamstrung in the same way they were leading up to Winter Soldier. There's no issue with certain revelations being tied to Avengers 2, but we can't have another HYDRA situation.

The problem is that the Mutants were never really integrated into the Marvel Comics universe until recently, and still really aren't. They have different villains, different aliens and their whole shtick about being a minority stand-in doesn't work well when the rest of the world is super-powered. They don't have the rights to Mutants on film/TV outside of animation, but that's actually a net positive.

I suspect we may not actually get the Greek Pantheon-influenced Inhuman clan (Black Bolt et al), and I wouldn't have a problem with that.

I agree on this. Making Inhumans bigger just hurts the comics. This one aspects I really hate about Marvels success, the comics are more and more just going to appetizer for the movie crowd.

It all started with shitty comic Coulson and shitty Nicolas Fury II

Doesn't seem to be a shoe-horning at all to me. It seems more like it's just another race that Marvel has access to, that they can use. Yes the Mutants are more popular in print but that doesn't mean that Inhumans can't find popularity in the TV/Film space. It would depend on how they're used. Relatively unpopular characters can become huge if handled correctly.

You realize that this is a problem you have with the books though right? The MCU is effecting the books in a way you don't like. I can understand that. However that doesn't mean that the TV/Film aspect will be bad. Seems like you're carrying a chip on your shoulder from one form of media to another.

Enjoyed the finale yesterday and after reading some bit on wiki on a few things, here are my outlandish theories:

- Skye could be set up as possibly being Mantis. Aside from Benett herself being hapa, the whole abandoned at a church as a baby and mind-wipe could easily fit in with Mantis' origins. This also ties into GotG.

- Perhaps a talented neurosurgeon by the name of Stephen Strange could help poor Fitz get better. After all, Strange was name-dropped by Sitwell in CA2, so you could actually introduce him here.

- I'm thinking the "hieroglyphs" that Coulson was writing/drawing was possibly the alien blood (probably the Kree as well) taking over while the hieroglyphs themselves is an intended message for other Kree to discover.

- Finally, Koening is probably an LMD while the real one is in parts unknown.

I'll probably do a re-watch over the summer just because.

No idea if this was the case, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Jackson wasn't originally planned to be in the finale (or was, but in a much smaller role) when the last stretch of episodes was being plotted, and that certain plot points had to be pushed to S2 to accommodate Fury. Specifically, the Gravitonium (particularly given the tag at the end of E18) and Skye's oft-alluded-to but unrevealed 084 powers, both of which felt like they were building to some sort of payoff in the finale.

I could be wrong, of course, but that just means the writers should do a better job of juggling multiple serialized plot threads next season.

Yeah... Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, for example. Prior to 2007, who the hell cared about Iron Man compared to Spider Man and the X-Men? What the MCU did for those characters is unbelievable. Now Captain America 3 is scheduled for the same weekend as the first ever Batman vs Superman freakin' crossover movie, and I guarantee that the studio who ultimately blinks and picks a different weekend will be WB. That's crazy when you think about it!

I agree with the bolded. That's always been the one thing that has been the toughest to buy about the role of mutants in Marvel.

Billy, you're a mutant? You ain't no son of mine, I'm disowning you! Oh wait, huh? You got your powers from a radiation accident? Oh okay, sorry, you're a hero then!

Just saw the last episode. It was quite disappointing.
Gonna miss Garrett. Hate how he was dealt with, especially when he managed to "come back".
Didn't feel like a proper season finale!
Every scene with Fury felt like it was filmed separately from the rest of the actors, though in some shots you could actually see him with Coulson.
I guess the end scene with Flowers was something... But no Garrett, no Ward, yes Triplet? Bleh...

Because a mutation was seen as a threat, an abomination of nature threatening to overtake and replace humanity. Whereas a simple "Spiderman" like hero is simply an accident and thus no threat in the same way.

For serial though, thinking back about the fitz/modok thing... I think a much likely scenario than Fitz turning bad, is Simmons ending up on an "any means necessary" path to healing/fixing Fitz. I mean she still won't want to get that D, but I could easily see her becoming obsessed with getting her BFF back up and running, no matter the cost.
