If anything Alanah Pearce videos of her talking about a subject and subsequent threads are meaningless because it just turns into tit pics.

Maybe I should make a video about how meaningless Alanah videos are and discuss what they're really about 🤔.

I mean, it's cool for the devs to receive an award, if they even really care about it and that's about it I guess. I'm watching for the game reveals solely.

That's exactly it. Of course the devs are there for the awards and the veiwers are there for the trailers. What's wrong with that exactly? This isn't a grand revelation she's making.

Agreed. Geoff gets a lot of hate, and i can't go say his shows are always amazing , but he at least tries and I do find myself every year looking forward to it a bit, that counts for something. I just don't watch it live anymore though.

Watch it next day. Can skip through bullshit, such as overly long speeches.

Yahtzee ha a good rundown last year on how artificial the game awards are. Notably how the winners are always those that needs to win for the sake of industry (And always the same as a result) rather than anything to do with quality.

To be fair......he agreed with Alanah's point that The Game Awards is meaningless. And then tossed in The Oscars. Yet people in both industries do not actually feel that way. Being recognized on a big stage seems to matter to them professionally and financially, so what is he and Alanah actually talking about?

Gotcha.. TBH I don't know what her take is, not gonna sit and watch a video and people who create threads here rarely put a summary of anything lol

For me personally, as a gamer, not a game developer, I just don't personally care what wins an award. Same with movies/music. Happy for the creators but beyond that it's not something I put any attachment to. If gamers were more normal it wouldn't even be worth commenting on, but gamers take everything to extreme. Everyone I know is into movies and music yet I barely hear about Oscars or Grammy's vs. being on gaming forums where due to the parasocial relationships people develop mostly with the plastic boxes they buy it becomes this completely unavoidable topic for like a month and an extension of console warz or genre warz or whatever else people have chosen as

If it was just like.. a thread or 2 and people discussed them normally it wouldn't be anything worth commenting on from someone who doesn't care about them.

I hear about Grammys and Oscars all the time, but that's just us being in different circles. But some of those people also have some form of parasocial relationships with artist like Drake, Taylor Swift, and Christopher Nolan.

And yeah I refuse to click on her video too for the same reason as you lol

You are right about music, but I don't discuss music online despite listening to it all the time. Most music listeners agree the crazy fanbases are kind of pathetic and to be avoided. That's not a bad analogy to how people act on gaming forums about game awards.

For movies and TV though? I mean it's all relative. That's one of the main topics I discuss here on GAF in the OT (general movie and TV show talk) yet there will barely be any discussion of the awards here... there DEFINITELY won't be dozens of threads about it, including from fanboys having dick measuring contests about movie studios (analogous to game publishers/console manufacturers.)

So you are right that it's sort of analogous to Swifties and other music stans. It's NOT analogous to Christopher Nolan fans. There's plenty of those here for instance or any other forum I post on movies/TV shows about but no crazy fanboying left and right.
