The weird thing isn't that planes crash, it can certainly happen. But this vanishments making me uneasy. Is this the year of plane crashes?
What is going on?
Hope it shows up again.

When has weather ever played a role in plane crashes? Maybe 1 or 2% of all the crashes..
USA - 1994-2003, of 19,562 accidents 22% were caused by weather
Here is a study of weather and plane 'accidents', it's more than you think:

Probably? It's still the safest way to travel.

Although I would imagine that we have more control of the weather than we used to have (construction of the plane, information etc.)
It's a very standard year in terms of commercial aircraft incidents/crashes, but there have been more casualties than on the averageThis is a crazy amount of plane disasters to be happening in one year.
I only initially read plane in the title and thought it was this story from yesterday
Taiwan Plane Crashes in Emergency Landing; Dozens Dead
wow what the fuck. create a thread.

Are those absolute numbers? I imagine the amount of flights have increased massively since the 1950's, so it might be relatively much safer nowadays.Interestingly the number of fatal accidents caused by weather has remained the same, despite improvements in safety/construction:
what is with plane crashes nowadays. two days ago a 17 year old and his father died when their plane crashed into the pacific ocean. they were trying to beat a round the globe world record:
Indiana teen pilot dies on around-world flight

How does a plane disappear over land for this long?

BREAKING: Owner of missing plane operated by Air Algerie says 110 passengers and 6 crew were aboard.
Should be easier to find the plane (if it crashed) over such a flat and bright areaMuch of the area it was flying over has a very sparse population (Sahara desert).
holy shit I'm glad I'm not catching a plane again anytime soon
Plane Crash - 1 in 11 million
Car Crash - 1 in 5,000
You have more chance of death in a car crash today.
Plane Crash - 1 in 11 million
Car Crash - 1 in 5,000
11 million and 5000 what? Kilometers? Trips? (what is considered a car trip?) People?
People.
BBC said:An unnamed Air Algerie company source, speaking to AFP news agency, said: "The plane was not far from the Algerian frontier when the crew was asked to make a detour because of poor visibility and to prevent the risk of collision with another aircraft on the Algiers-Bamako route."
"Contact was lost after the change of course."
What a year for plane crashes this has been so far, such a shame. Dying in a plane crash must be up there with the most horrible ways to go...
Yeah we've gone over this before. Will still feel much more safe in a car than flying. You have more chance of death in a car crash today.

The likely reason is that other reasons for crashes have improved at a similar rate. You would not see a difference in the breakdown percentages.Interestingly the number (percentage) of accidents caused by weather has remained the same, despite improvements in safety/construction:
* Percentages
Important update:
yeah, I know m8, but all these planes crashes lately....
