If you're talking about Gaetz, these accusations were investigated and deemed insubstantial by the DOJ. Being "held to account for credible accusations" would have been prosecution and possibly jail time. Not a media and political badgering. They didn't screech at his nomination because of accusations, they did it because they didn't like him or his politics.

I don't think that's true ... Not with the house ethics committee statements from the other party... And it was his own party that didn't want him with his numerous scandals.

It's a fact. I don't want to get moderated for posting the link, but google it. They investigated, and informed Gaetz that they were closing without laying any charges. Of course, they didn't make a show of it, because giving someone like Gaetz a winning showboat may as well be sacrilege.

The house ethics report has been sitting there for the better part of a year. They started building it most of 4 years ago. Obviously, his own party doesn't like him, because most of the are career politicos who want things to remain as they are. It isn't to say I think the guy's perfect, but if you don't think McCarthy and his allies have it in for him after the trouble he caused them, you've got something else coming.

Do you really believe that anyone in Washington DC gives a damn about ethics? All this conversation does is prove the power of the machine. It's all been recycled because they like his policy even less than they like his person.

He really does come off like this high-horse MFer that secretly hates himself. I feel many of the "woke" type are like that. They don't truly love themselves and they got the fakest of smiles and photo ops on the internet. There was a GAF user that made an insightful post about fake smiling and how it applies to sociopaths. I wish I could remember the post and user...

Well, would you look at that. One of the people consistently throwing Jk Rowling under the bus for defending women turns out to be a filthy little tax cheat:

These pontificating little shit plugs really do come unstuck, don’t they?

You’ll be surprised how many people avoid paying the higher rate of tax ….. you think Footballers are paying the 52% rate lol

Anyone who's not working class in the UK is cheating taxes, it's practically a benefit at this point and when a person is caught the pay back is considerably less than what they've avoided.

When you go to work abroad you fill in the form on the back of the P45 to let HMRC know you're off and that's it, no more British tax to pay, unlike the Americans where they still have to pay when working abroad. Suckers.

Please dont post opinions of this loser that lives like a pig, with his mom still while making millions, barely ever leaves the house and is socially awkward. I dont think any normal person with friends, relationships and their own apartment shoud listen to what this hermit has to say about life. Not to mention all he does nowadays is react to other peoples video.
The dude stayed at home and looked after his terminally ill mum until she died which is an absolute headfuck (I can tell you from personal experience). But way to frame it as “lol still lives with his mum”.

Prick.

The best payback for the last decade of insanity is things getting back to normal. Leave the resentment behind.
Deadbeat.

Looks like he tried to set up his Harry Potter income as a company so he gets taxed less.

That would be like the avg joe worker telling their payroll department "Don't pay me direct. But pay my newly set up company so it recognizes it as corporate revenue which is taxed at a lower rate"

It's a hard thing for government to track because tons of people do shit like this. A lot of daytraders do this. They sit at home playing the market but set up a sketchy company in Ontario for $300 or $500 claiming it's a holding company. So any profits get taxed less. No shame too. They dont even give themselves a fancy company name. They just use their name and whatever default corporation number the government gives like Company #1958274. I know because I know some people who do this.

One think I don't get is how the SJWs go on and on about supporting women but they go out of their way to try and tear down a successful and talented woman.
They don't actually support women, or any of the groups they claim to support, because "listen to women" is a nonsensical statement to begin with. Which women? Women are people with different opinions. If you start tracking who they really support, they champion other progressive women with the same politics as them, while they throw any woman who disagrees with them under the bus. It's the same with everything they pretend to care about. "Just LISTEN to transpeople!" until that transperson is Blaire White, at which point it's totally fine for a bunch of straight cis white dudes to yell at a transperson to kill herself. Political leaning is the secret top of their hierarchy. It just isn't as marketable, because "I support people who agree with me" doesn't sound as heroic.

Huh? No, This is a perfectly legitimate way to structure a business. The CRA even can help advise you on how to do this. The principle of tax neutrality still applies, so you end up paying the same tax when you take out the income as personal income. At least in Canada, you actually end up paying a bit more in tax overall when you do this because cap gains within a corporation are very highly taxed (it works out to >55% at the top marginal rate with current tax laws). The benefit is that you get to defer tax, which is useful for for business owners and self employed individuals who need to keep money on hand for unexpected expenses and fluctuations in expenses and revenue from year to year.

Grint got in trouble because he treated income as a cap gain, which is a completely separate issue.

Yes, that is true. Doing a quick lookup, civil liability in Ireland appears to be similar to the United States, whereby a decision is made on a "balance of probabilities" (51% likelihood being sufficient) rather than guilt beyond a reasonable doubt as in criminal cases. A civil verdict doesn't have anywhere near the same weight to it as a criminal one.

Given that he basically appears to be a coked up maniac any time he's seen in public these days, I don’t think people are likely to go to bat for him though.
I think most people don't know enough of the difference between civil and criminal and just hear "guilty" and weigh the outcomes exactly the same; some people are even calling him a "convicted rapist", even though civil trials result in judgements, not convictions.
So I think at the end of the day, the net result damage to his image is the same for the average person.

Fair point.

I dont know the ins and outs and I dont do it myself. I just get the vibe from the daytrader dudes doing it this way is it's a big tax saver than trading from their personal accounts. At least that's how they promote it when they talk about it.

Boring Canadian Tax Talk Follows!

Corporations get a few breaks from the CRA (including things like being able to bring losses from previous years in to cover profits from the next), and the corporate retained earnings (i.e. net profit after costs) are taxed at a lower rate (let's say 15%) but the money isn't helpful to the owners personally until it is brought out somehow - generally by either dividends or salary (*)

There are pros and cons to both methods but they're both taxed. Dividends are taxed a bit less - let's say around 20% - but they're not counted as "costs" to the company, so that's tax paid on money that the corp already had taxed - so we're back to about the 35% ish range for personal use.

Salaries are more annoying, as things like CPP have to be paid on top (which comes out of both the corp's account as well as the "owner-employee") and are taxed at the usual personal rate (around 35ish percent again or whatever it is), but are considered as costs vs. the retained earnings, so the corp isn't paying tax on those funds. The usefulness here is if the corp is making way more than the owner wants to receive in a year. Think of it a bit like "investing" in a shitty mutual-fund RRSP - the value is not the infinitesimal interest, but rather not paying tax now on money you don't need now. But you'll pay tax on it later when you cash it out, but presumably that will be a lower amount so you'll hit lower tax brackets.

The best one can do is to optimize a mix of dividends and salaries but the CRA doesn't like seeing salaries fluctuate all the time, so a strategy might be to take a salary that basically covers the minimum expected revenue (or a bit more) and then top it up with dividends in higher-performing years. In poor years, if the salary is more than the revenue and the company posts a loss, it can get credits to apply to subsequent years, but ofc the CRA doesn't like seeing a pattern of losses every single year either.

I don't really know, but suspect that for your daytrader friends the main value would be that if trades go poorly and they suffer a loss, they won't be paying tax on the money they invested and lost, whereas someone using their take-home pay to buy gamestop shares or w/e is presumably doing so with money that's already been taxed?

(*) One thing the CRA takes a dim view on though is using corporate money for personal use - there's no "company car" being paid for by the little day-trader shell company without getting calls from Ontario. Even having things like your home-office expenses covered used to be a huge pain in the ass unless it was in a different physical location. They backed that off a bit during the 'Ronies but since we're in the Memory Hole period now, I'm sure things are back to normal.

Wait, what is this thread actually about?

This is the type of conclusion I see on GB News and what do you know … its literally their headline

And if by "Cancelling" you mean him saying "She's an Aunt I dong agree with" you have to explain why he has to be beholden to the belief system of JK just because she helped with his fame.

Saying what he said is probably the most respectful way of telling someone I fuck with you but no non this topic.

Sounds like this guy is involved in big tax issues more than once.

He previously lost another, separate court case in 2019 that involved a £1m tax refund.

Rupert Grint has become the latest Harry Potter cast member to speak out in response to author JK Rowling's recent comments on transgender issues.
In a statement, the actor - Ron Weasley in the Potter films - said "I firmly stand with the trans community".
"Trans women are women. Trans men are men. We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment."

Grint didn't seem too concerned with defending his 'auntie' Rowling against all the people saying she should be murdered for being a terf cunt. So I guess not everyone should be entitled to live with love and without judgement, eh?

None of the Potter kids condemned the amount of hate, bile and nastiness thrown at Rowling for her perfectly sensible and non transphobic opinions about the realities of sex, and the rights of women.

Still no relevance ….

JK is a big women and doubt she needs them to defend her honour and when she does it’s normally in a defamation lawsuit she normally wins.

She made it her side hustle to piss of liberals so she should expect smoke. Purity testing other people based on her actions is a it strange

I'm not as sure (or optimistic) as Elon is in that tweet, but I sure hope we're done with this shitty phase of social media or at least people push back strongly against it.

It was such a terrible way to target people, often with lies (exploiting and abusing the "believe women" motto) or under the guise of speaking out on behalf of friends, and tragically there were people led to suicide by the mobs and their agitators.

I often think about Alec Holowka's case here, and how people should have seen through the attack and its obvious purpose given who made the allegations and her awful track record.

The mob who destroyed Twitter with their terrorism has fled to a bluer echo chamber.
I love how BlueSky, which is basically Twitter 2012 has attracted soo much hate from people who don't use it, I stopped using Twitter because of the forced politics and Musk priority bullshit manipulation, meanwhile on BlueSky I don't see any Politics, no hate, I just see the stuff I follow, it's crazy right, seeing the stuff you want to see without having grifters pushed on you telling me what I should be angry about.

Don't follow them then, if you're seeing furry and pedo stuff then that's down to what you follow. It's really that simple, BlueSky is legit just old old twitter where you see what you pick.

Hats off to anyone who decided to keep to themselves and wait rather than jump on the bandwagon of vilifying people so your friends will like you, or because it's less boring than staying home, or because you needed someone to assert dominance and superiority over, or for whatever other petty reasons that dude ended up dead.

Damn, some of those people might have to admit they were wrong at some point. I mean, not when a guy died, but years later when the walls start closing in on them.

Seriously, get it together. Both sides pretty much campaign on how bad the other is in a race to the bottom and people are more sick of the culture war than they were sick from Trump botching covid, which is an IMPRESSIVE FEAT.

See I don't follow politics shit so I don't see this, I just see what I want, now if this was twitter I'd have like 50+ reaction accounts and bias accounts screaming about this seeping into my feed under the guise of "algorithm" or weirdly accounts of women Musk is randomly promoting like that Tiffany person.

You have to wonder why BlueSky, which our of all the social media sites out there is actually the most open and allows you to curate what you see is the one being attacked most by Twitter and Musk followers.

Look back at your post, you hinted that anyone who uses it is a pedo or someone who wants a left wing echo chamber, why is that? Again if you're seeing pedos and echo chambers, that's because you chose to follow that.

Do you actually dislike it, or are you going off what Musk and his followers have told you? Do you know why Babylon Bee was banned? What they posted to get banned?

It’s the least open…
Compared to Meta, etc, it's the only one that won't force manipulated shit on you all the time, sure Twitter is "open" but it's still shoving shit down your throat more than ever and saying it's just the algorithm. How many posts from Tiffany have we all seen this week on the For You tab?

Edit: perhaps open was the wrong word, but it's the least manipulated, for example I can go on both right now and check out For You/Discover, one of them will show me posts about retro gaming, anime and other stuff similar to what I follow, meanwhile the other will mainly just show big accounts like IGN, etc, sprinkled in with random ass political leaning accounts and reaction accounts.

BlueSky has the same thing. It's just called "Discover". Both Twitter and BluSky have a following and a Discover/For You tab. The difference is BlueSky's moderation is literally run by the cancel mob.

Bluesky’s For You/Discover tab is at least as bad as Twitter’s FYP, from what I’ve used. The problem with BS is that it’s already become a bubble of one sided extremism, enforced from the top down. Twitter has plenty of extremism too but it’s not enforced from the top and not one sided.

You can’t even state basic facts about biology on BS without having your posts auto moderated and hidden. I confirmed this out of curiosity.

If you’re enjoying it, by all means, have fun.

I've had BS since it was invite-only, and I only followed gaming-related accounts. Up until the big exodus from X last month, the "Discover" tab was nothing but furry streamers posting gay/pedo furry artwork. It was UNUSABLE.

Also bullshit on this, this week alone we're seeing an account of one specific person pushed into everyone's feed just because Musk wants to hit that, that's how biased it is, anything Musk does/likes, ends up forced onto everyone. To pretend otherwise is ignorance.
