Like many seem to I tread carefully with this franchise/IP, despite Alien being probably my favourite film of all time and loving Aliens.

Still, great poster. I'm hyped.

Amazing!
It's somehow reminds me of original Alien poster:

No shit.

Don't get the love for it really, it's more lazy than clever.

They're hellbent on distancing it from Prometheus, which is no bad thing, but considering Ridley was adamant there were going to be no xenomorphs in it and they are now front and centre I don't have much confidence in whatever the story turns out to be with this one.

Expectations saying low.

That poster comes so close to being really good. But Hollywood gonna Hollywood, so let's cheese up the thing with a supertacky soundbite!

This game is so fucking bad.

It's hard to describe my hatred for that game and everything surrounding it. I had waited 2 decades for someone to make that exact type of game, and when it finally released it was such a disaster that no one will ever attempt to it again. At least I got a decent tag out of that debacle though.

Thank god for Alien Isolation.

Alien Isolation should be the template for how you make Alien games. It's amazing.

Shame we wont get a sequel.

I just pray that this time screenplay [charachters] will be better. Many characters were pure idiots in the Prometheus.

Still I liked it.

It should be a template to how you make any game. The amount of passion, preparation and hard work that must have went into recreating and building on the atmosphere of that film.....

It's a stunning achievement in game design IMO. I will never stop hoping for a sequel.

So is the Alien sequel Blompkaff had been working on basically dead at this point? I was far more excited for that then whatever Scott might give us with this.

It's on ice. Meant to be going into production after this, but who knows really. Depends more on how Covenant does at the box office I think.

Was Prometheus considered a financial success? I wonder how much this has to make to get that new Alien film.

Rewatched Prometheus on blu recently and I know I'm supposed to hate it, but I can't. Story's basically a mess and I know all the flaws, but I still like it.

It's supposed issues just don't bother me at all, I fucking loved that movie.

Doesn't hurt that it's a 10/10 in the AV department.

I will never forgive Gearbox. I like to think karma finally caught up to them with the megaflop that was Battleborn.

Fox has been trying to capture the same lightening in a bottle formula that made Alien and Aliens box office successes. So what needs to be done? Does there need to be more emphasis on world building rather than on action? I think the new Planet of the Apes have done a fantastic job in building its world. And while it has paid its respect to the earlier films, it wasn't unreasonably tethered to it. Some at Fox want to bring back Sigourney Weaver. I don't think that would be a productive direction if they're thinking long term. The first 2 Alien films had alot of things going for it, such as its iconography and its directors. Planet of the Apes was marketed around the star power of Charelton Heston. But in cutting him loose, they were forced to adapt to his absense and thus ensured its longevity.

Should they try to de-emphasize its horror elements, or at least try to decouple the expectation that its horror elements be ground breaking on the level of Exorcist? It can't be a horror film because that cat has already been let out of the bag. As for the action sequences, what films would anyone here cite as an inspiration to use in future Alien films?

I'd like these films to succeed, but the track record after Aliens is hit or miss.

No it's not.

It's a big fucking miss every single time.

I didn't hate Alien 3 and felt that it would have benefited from the producers not interfering. i Loved the aesthetics and set design of that film, but that's about it. I'm not familiar with the rest of the films from the series, aside from Prometheus. I didn't hate that film like many here, but it didn't blow me away, either.

ok, pm's sent.

please do not discuss anythin in here. high chance that the leaked stuff is bullshit but if there is any truth to it, it would be massive spoilers that dont belong here.

Can someone just start up a thread w/the leak in the OP so people can actually discuss it rather than everyone asking for PMs about it?
