Alien: Earth | Official Teaser

Interview with Noah Hawley. Please, pretty please stick the landing.

First 2 episodes in 3 days!

Not reading but reviews are looking good at a glance:

I'll just be glad if it doesn't treat us as absolute morons like Romulus and be a bit more serious.

Would be a major bonus if it's as bleak and dark as it could be, say what you will about Alien Covenant, at least Ridley had the balls to kill all of them.

so excited , the thirst is real

None of the Alien movies had great stories and were pretty much standard horror. You watch Allien movies for the atmosphere and tension, which Prometheus excelled at especially in its visuals. Alien 1 > Alien 2 > Promotheus >>>>>> all.

No great stories? Are you mad.. Alien & Aliens where absolutely top notch story telling with great believable grounded characters and you have the audacity to even say Prometheus in the same sentence... Can someone hold me back

I need to see it to believe, but currently my expectations are pretty high.

On a personal level, I'm not too fond of the timeline being before Alien. I think the best time to put Xenomorphs on Earth was directly after Resurrection, but I'm happy to be proven wrong on this one.

Dont be ridiculous and take your nostalgia goggles off. Alien is in my top 10 movies of all times and I watch it yearly, but a hot chick escaping from an Alien with ok acting is not some groundbreaking story lmao. Unless ofc you're reffering to environmental story telling which is entirely different, as that is in the atmosphere which I pointed out its amazing.

They said that about Romulus, but I found that lacking.

Still, I have high hopes for this one. Hawley will be elevated to genuis if he pulls this one off.
That's my fear, it's deja vu, I'm trying to go into it as neutral as possible.

On the other hand, I have no more expectations, so I may be happy even if it's bad.

I mean if you're reducing the movie to "Hot chick escaping alien" sure, it's nothing spectacular. But this way we can reduce any movie to a single sentence, "A hero goes on a journey." , "Human discovers magic powers and saves the world".

I'm not saying Alien is some masterpiece never seen before, but it's hardly generic, standard or bad and it's a good story that goes beyond the obvious.

Thats all we needed to say. Some think it is which is ridiculous.
Well, as a whole or/and if it's put together with all time greats ever made regardless of genre, sure, it's not a masterpiece.

But critics have said about it that it is, so who am I to say otherwise?, Sure, opinions and whatnot, but then that's what all there is to it, just opinions. And if we agree about X movie that it's said to be a masterpiece we can do the same for movie Y.
Anyway IMO the movie is a masterpiece in design, audio, environmental storytelling, and atmosphere. I mean just the xeno design alone makes it one of the best if not the best and most unique monster designs up to this day.

How can you say its is in your top ten movies of all time, but you don't regard it as a masterpiece?

Its still one of the best, if not the best examples of sci fi horror to this day and its almost 50 years old.

I already explained. I get some of you always live at the extremes, theres no middle grounds just like in polictics, but there is nothing perfect in this world. Alien is a masterpiece in atmosphere and sound design, but everything else is at best a 7. I know its shocking for your mind to understand that you can criticize even the best things in your life.

Most of the elements of a movie you regard as one of the greatest of all time are at best 7?

Sorry, that makes no sense to me. Opinions and all that though.

You could reduce any film down to such and it would sound shit :messenger_tears_of_joy:

'A midget goes to a hot mountain to chuck a ring in'

'A bloke drives the Le mans race track'

'A bloke gets trapped, at Christmas, in a building and shoots people'

'A cartoon Lion becomes king'

'A women goes to look after some kids, then leaves at the end'

Nah. Thats not what I meant. Its cool tho.

A 7?? Are you out of your mind a film widely regarded as a masterpiece not only by the general public, but critics and other filmmakers and you think it's a 7, hey opinions and all that but man you wrong af... Of course we can criticise it but the only criticism you could actually level at Alien is it set the bar too fucking high for the rest of the genre

I've seen this pop up on disney plus and honestly assumed it was a nature documentary about how weird some life on earth is, it didn't even occur to me that it was part of the alien franchise.

Man you guys only read what you want to read. Did i say the whole movie is a 7? No. I dont watch movies just for the writing, if you do that sucks and props to you. As a whole package its an 8.5. Its only a 7 for its writing and acting and some other small aspects.

Man you keep digging that hole.. the writing is top notch and the acting... Jesus man.. can I just check, we are talking about the original Alien directed by Ridley Scott not I dunno Species?

Top notch writing is Godfather, not Alien lmao. Watch more cinema I guess.
You can have excellent writing in different genres, Alien is not The Godfather nor is it Alien,

Anyways here's ChatGPTs Overview of the writing and I trust its take more than yours

The movie Alien (1979) is widely praised for its strong writing, which is considered a key factor in its success and enduring appeal. It's frequently cited as a masterpiece of suspense, horror, and science fiction, with a script that effectively builds tension and creates memorable characters.

Here's why Alien's writing is considered so good:

Suspenseful atmosphere:
The script masterfully creates a sense of dread and unease, drawing the audience into the claustrophobic and hostile environment of the Nostromo.

Compelling characters:
The characters, including Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), are well-developed and relatable, making their struggles and fates resonate with the audience.

Effective use of horror elements:
Alien uses suspense, gore, and psychological horror to create a truly frightening experience.

Subversive themes:
The film explores themes of corporate greed, the dangers of unchecked technology, and the complexities of motherhood.

Tight and well-paced:
The story is carefully constructed, with each scene building upon the last to create a cohesive and impactful narrative.

While Alien is often contrasted with Aliens (1986), which is also highly regarded but has a different tone and focus, the original Alien is frequently celebrated for its strong writing and its contribution to the horror and science fiction genres.

Lmao you used an AI to make an opinion? Brother I never stated good writing isnt possible in other genres so stop twisting my words. Alien just doesnt have a great one. Its just ok. Thats it. You can dislike my opinion and move on. As I said i love the movie.

Damn right I used ChatGPT, i can't be arsed writing out a wall of text on why your wrong, can you at least bump your score up to an 8.5? 7 is just too triggering for me

I think he said overall the movie is an 8.5, just certain elements are scored as 7. Even so 8.5 is a low score for me, I have it at a 9, maybe even a bit more, 9.5 max.

There's very little I don't like in the movie, one would be the acting, I agree in some parts it's a bit rough and the other one, as I said the ending.
But the writing doesn't seem weak, I actually find the writing in Aliens a bit worse.

And we're getting off the track comparing stories and writing in movies based on genres, novels, biographies or real-life events. I mean Godfather vs Alien, ok.

I have not been into TV shows and movies nearly as much as I used to be. This is one TV show that I am very much looking forward to and I am excited to be excited about it. Project Hail Mary has sort of hit that spot for movies too. Maybe both are a gateway back.

I mean she's not the main character as in the main character is the Xeno and the Company/Weyland-Yutani.

I don't have any problem with her character, it's just that for me a dark ending would have been better and less cliche.
Have you ever read any of the Alien comic books, like Original Sin?

I hope this turns out to be good and not another disappointment like most of the film's after Alien and Aliens, i will give it a watch and not expect too much.

it's annoying they opted for weekly episodes rather than the full season drop approach like Netflix opts for.

I understand why, they get to sucker in people to paying for several months of subscriptions, but fuck it's annoying when a show is good having to wait for a week between eps.

Duh stupid me, I was trying to think a horror and all I came up with was The Others.
The one film I wanted to watch, was going to, and my wife, who doesn't even like horrors, spoilt the ending randomly as shed seen it years prior..

Bloody typical.

Glad I watched the sixth sense before I met her.. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
