It looks like my penis.

Almost looks like it was compressed where it lay.

Much of the mystique is gone with the thought that this is decades old.

interesting that the foot bones are gone, which they probably would be.

I don't think this is a fake. But could you imagine this person actually living? It's freaky. Real Tom Thumb.

The likelihood of this being alien or a different species is slim to none. Forgive me if I snort my nose at this, but...nope.

Yeah fuck the whole alien bit. The thing is freaky enough as it is. I want answers. I want miniature humans! Flying model aeroplanes!!

you know what

no matter how long the study for this go on, there won't be a single goddamn proof that this thing came from outer space

this will never officially be called a space alien unless more of them come down here in space ships and look just like it

it may just be the biggest coincidence that it's skull just happened to resemble the classic hollywood space alien

maybe this thing really did have a disease of some sort that was never classified ever

these guys here aren't 6 inches tall but they're also quite small as well, maybe our alien is a much extremer case?

How tall were they at age 6?

its a little toy made out of human bones, there i solved your mystery
Nope. That was ruled out. It wasn't "built". There is DNA in the bone marrow. The thing is real.

I read something today that said it may have been a fetus that was resorbed into someone's body and "lived" as a tumor would, inside that person.

I just can't believe something this crazy hasn't been described in nature before. Except like, folklore. It is extremely scary, to me. That thing is like one of my biggest fears embodied.

isn't there some horror movie that deal with something similar?

Maybe you are thinking of Basketcase. Also there was an episode of Tales of the Crypt called "The Ventriloquist's Dummy" that dealt with the theme above.

No movies aside from them, that I know of, and I SWEAR I almost posted a thing on here a few weeks ago about how I think little, mutant evil human creatues is very underserved in horror.

Also that thing reminds me of the screaming mandrake creatures from Harry Potter that freaked me out when I saw the movie.

The pics I originally posted on the Cool Pics thread are from the I Fucking Love Science FB page.

That's fine, not accusing you or anything. But the pic on the left is quite clearly something completely different than the stuff on the right.

How does that exclude something carved out of human bones exactly?

ok...so you carve something out of bone.

or you have something with intact miniature bones, complete with tiny marrow hollows. how do you make something like that? 3D printer?

I have been on high alert about this too. Someone must have spent just an absolutely huge amount of time creating that thing. If it is fake. Also Stanford's reputation would be destroyed and so would a prominent researcher. I don't think it's fake, but I am just - astounded at this. It is terrifying and fascinating.

Fascinated, terrified AND on high alert. Simmer down, hot pants.

People keep coming in here, looking at the pictures, and not reading the OP or the article, so yeah, apparently they aren't.

I'll admit I jumped to the alien angle without reading the article.

Pretty lame of me, but I only did so because this same mummy has been the focus of other threads and trailers for UFO conspiracy movies.

My bad.

If some people manage to do stuff like this:

I have no doubt someone can manage to make that thing in the OP.

I read this comment on an article:

As a medical doctor I can say this, if real, is 100% an aborted human fetus. The posterior fontanel is not closed so it is no older than 4 months old but most likely is aborted before it was born. The head is elongated because the skull is crushed. Only 10 ribs are viewed because there are only ten ribs visible from the front. The 11th and 12th rib are floating ribs and are only seen from behind. The are no knee caps and no diaphyseal plates on the long bones so there is no way this was 7-8 years old. Whoever said that had no idea what they were talking about or had a very flawed test. The most common cause of spontaneous abortions are chromosomal abnormalities which can cause significant defects. A first year medical student with any knowledge of embryology could have told you this. The fact that this has been studied this much is a joke an a waste of money. Its an aborted fetus dumped or buried in the desert and mummified. Stop messing with it and bury is back in the ground where it wont be disturbed. This is just an article to stir up controversy and get people to read.

PLUS, just to add some credibility, the guy who wrote this was named Dr. Danger.

Yeah, the whole age thing is utter BS. With the most recent methods based on DNA, the margin of error is 5-10 years... And that's with fresh samples, not stuff buried for 2000 years.

Ok, even if we knew for certain that there's life out there, what would be the logic behind humanoid aliens? It also means that there's grey big-headed apes and other animals across the universe?

Only medical mystery I see is how people dumb enough to believe this hoax are able to survive.

The people who really look like idiots are the ones who cry "hoax" with absolutely nothing to support this notion. It is looking much more likely to be a fetus, perhaps a case of fetus in fetu.

But nobody has made any claims about what this actually is, so unless this is a case of improbably detailed modelling, there is no hoax here.

I think they need to allow others to study that thing. We already know that at least one person's reputation is hanging on this being real, along with Stanford in general. I hope The Skeptics Guide to the Universe discusses this in length this week. In true scentific stufy fashion, that mummified body should be given to other experts to study. Then we'll know for sure.

I am still 50/50 on it. If it is real, it is mind blowing. If not, someone pulled off an amazing hoax. Other theories I have read say it may have been a fetus that wasn't fully developed, and lived as a tumor would, inside someone's body, for 8 years. Which is just as weird. This is all so fucking weird.

EDIT

Found it, but it isn't exactly like this though at all.
Remembered it wrongly, no foeteus, just a spirit.
It's The unborn
