Alien Vs. Terminator: which franchise got shat on the worst?

Going by the films listed in the OP (not counting prometheus, avp), I would say neither as I enjoyed them all (yes, I even liked terminator salvation and alien resurrection).

Why do people hate Terminator Salvation so much? I loved every minute of it.

I really liked it too. It's a bit iffy in places but I can't think of anything it did to justify the overwhelming hate it gets.

Boring performances with less charisma than a cardboard box, no memorable action sequences, PG-13, stupid fucking ending, etc.

It was just a boring, safe movie. The alternate ending they had planned was soooo much better, with the terminator getting turned evil by skynet, killing john conner, disguising himself as him using his face, and then infiltrating the resistance and taking it out from within.

I liked some of the dynamic between Connor and the worthing-nator, but it never went anywhere interesting, just 'lol take my heart John Connor, because you're such a good savior despite showing zero leadership qualities or really any talents of any kind besides having a gravely voice'

McG is hack anyway. Should go back to directing commercials or music videos or whatever the hell he did.

I don't hate it but I can I say it's pretty stupid of skynet to make a hybrid with a human brain, loyal to humans, with the ability to surf around its inner systems and fuck shit up. It made the perfect weapon against itself.

Thuggy Arnold rocking them glasses like a boss.

People still pretending there's some cut out there that makes Alien3 into a good movie

yeah ok

Can you at least specify why you don't think that is the case? You're so called "some cut" actually has a full Bluray release, new ADR recording and 31 minutes of extra or alternate footage. This is all made via the notes David Fincher wrote before he was taken off the project by Fox. That's how the cut was made and if you really saw them both, you wouldn't said what you just said.

They both screwed up their respective franchises in different ways.

Both Alien 3 and T3 screw with central plot threads/messages established in the previous films. T3 reverses the whole "no fate but what we make" message and proves that Skynet/the war will always happen no matter what, while Alien 3 goes completely out of its way to trample on the mother/daughter and family themes built up in Aliens.

Both Resurrection and Salvation were directed by people who were far out of their zone with respect to the source material (Jean-Pierre Jeunet was a French drama director, McG was known for big dumb action films). They both try to divorce themselves from their respective trilogies and try to do new things, and have the barest minimum of continuity between their installments.

If we're judging this purely by their collective works and total critical reception, Terminator would win. In spite of how Salvation was received (mediocre), Sarah Connor Chronicles was quite highly-praised. The AVP series started at mediocre and got much, much worse, and Prometheus (while beautifully shot) messed with the mythos and didn't do much to engender goodwill so much as it did confusion and complaints.

Likewise, T3 at least got decent reviews, if not exactly stellar.

You know, I probably should have put a disclaimer on that post about liking Terminator Salvation that I also think Disturbia is a good movie as well.

Terminator 3 is ok, I liked the ending - caught me by surprise.

Sucks a bit though thinking about back in the days when they would talk about what a possible 'real' T3 would be (around just after the T2 days) and compare it to what we ended up with.

Salvation though, ugh, hated it so much. I've only bothered to watch it once but didn't the machines find Connor then not just kill him instantly? lol. :\

Aliens, I've only ever watched the first two (and AVP1 for some reason lol zzzz) and Prometheus which I liked a lot so I can't really make a judgement.

The terminator movies got shit on more if you don't count avp. The terminator movies became bland and boring and bad, the alien movies may have become boring and bad but they never became bland.

The Terminator < Alien
The Terminator < Aliens*
The Terminator > Alien 3
The Terminator > Alien: Resurrection
Terminator 2 < Alien
Terminator 2 > Aliens*
Terminator 2 > Alien 3
Terminator 2 > Alien: Resurrection
Terminator 3 < Alien
Terminator 3 < Aliens
Terminator 3 < Alien 3
Terminator 3 > Alien: Resurrection
Terminator Salvation < Alien
Terminator Salvation < Aliens
Terminator Salvation < Alien 3
Terminator Salvation < Alien: Resurrection

Alien makes out better overall, really it comes to the latter 2 in both franchises going head to head, Alien 3 was a good film poorly executed, Terminator 3 had no potential. Salvation is so shit it's unreal, Resurrection is at least committed to being weird.

*subject to change

I concur with this.

If we count Prometheus, it's no contest.

Every shitty Terminator sequel from 2003 to the end of time could not approach the shittiness of that film. Prometheus was legitimately one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Then you haven't seen many films if it was one of the worst films you've ever seen. This hyperbolic timechamber shit is ridiculous.

Alien the franchise got shit on harder.

That's because you have to factor in the shitty AvP movies on top of the latest Prometheus.
