All PS4 Pro enhanced games (native support and boosted)

I could carry on the work that liabe did if he gives me permission to carry it on with the same style he has been doing it with, would just need some help from the community or liabe on how to put it together.

Yeah, I am sure people have no issues with taking the time to let you know what needs to be added/updated when new things are changed etc

it will take some time to create, even if you are just copying over info, will still take a lot of time but my advise is to create a simple format that allows for quick editing, adding of the information over your graphic overlays etc

I also think you would have to create a new topic and we would have to close this one since the information will not be able to be edited and kept together.

it's a huge task, especially with starting new but not impossible.

I am disappointed to see him go and if he is going there well, that is his choice after all but still disappointed. Enjoyed your list and glad it was here for a while.
 
The Pro-Patch for Evil Within 2 is out.

Changes:

for 4k-TVs: Higher Resolution or no framerate cap.

for Full HD-TVs: no supersampling (once again), only the framerate option.

Any word on the resolution cap?

No supersampling is another fail in my book. And I have a 4k display.
 
The PS4 HD collection of the .hack//GU games that just came out the other day supports output up to 4K if you have the Pro. But it's still simply an HD collection so I don't know if it counts.
 
Patch notes are up for the Evil Within 2.

Relevant section:

  • Increased display resolution (2240 x 1260 native resolution output at 3840 x 2160 on 4K TV)
  • Allows substantially higher frame rates when PS4Pro output set to 1080p
  • Improved framerate stability
  • Option to disable 30 fps limit for higher frame rates

Yeah the original Evil Within looks pretty sweet on my tv anyway. It's often the quality of the textures and antialiasing that make the biggest difference to image quality anyway. The 4k upscaling in the Pro and 4k tv's seem to work well in most games anyhow.

its bethesda, I think they hate Playstation, only make games because money. Anyway, i have a Pro and 1080p TV, so its good news the unlocked frame rate option. I hope we will see videos soon
 
Although not happy about the no SS for Evil Within 2, I'm partly starting to not care and am getting pretty fucking sick of all this resolution bullshit when it is becoming more and more apparent that developers aren't giving a fuck about performance and/or the gameplay of the game when all they seem to give a fuck about is resolution (obviously not ALL Developers).

A couple of examples;

Skyrim SE @ 4K on Ps4 Pro = Stutters like fuck and is a fucking mess on my 1080p PJ yet is smooth as butter on a standard ps4. The SS doesn't improve things nearly that much, perhaps other than on interior parts of the world/caves etc. Bought the game digital and is unplayable for me. Yet if I had a standard ps4 I wouldn't have any issues at all. Fucking joke you can't decide to not have the update...

Wolfenstein The Colossus @ Higher Resolution on Ps4 Pro = Not impressed that much with the graphics at all. Look great at times to ok at times (art style helps a lot). The Dynamic Resolution is a fucking eyesore at times too and with the patch 1.02 that has removed a huge amount of volumetric lighting, it does look a lot flatter than before. Sometimes in parts of the game, the resolution doesn't even look 1080p in my eyes. I can't remember the last time I saw slow down at the end of level one that bad. Pffft. DOOM was far more impressive. More impressive visually and more impressive gameplay.

Now perhaps I just don't get the gameplay in Wolfestein but the game feels like it hasn't been tested for GAMEPLAY what so ever! WAY Too Hard. WAY Too Easy. I feel like there is a great game underneath but it's impossible to get at it due to the way the game has been designed. Fucking health kits and armour everywhere looted around without any care for creating GAMEPLAY. Perhaps the Developers could have spent more time making a better game cos what I'm playing at the moment, I'm really struggling to keep engaged. The game also has plenty of glitches.

For me, too much emphasis on 4K when that doesn't seem the best way to budget making a great game.

I play @ 65" on a 1080p PJ @ 6ft away. The Witcher 3 looked and played great before the pro patch. I was unable to not install the patch even though I selected not to do updates in my system, it fucking updated anyway. Now it has slowdown in some areas but acceptable enough performance and the SS looks ok. At first I didn't like it cos I thought it made the game look too soft but I've got used to it - I've got no fucking choice!

Doom looks great without SS or 4K. Am I gonna be pissed when I am forced to install a fucking Pro patch that I can't prevent and then the game doesn't run as smooth! Arrrrrgh!

Still not bought HZD yet after watching some gameplay with the dumb ass Ai on the human encounters - although I realise the main part of the game looks great and the gameplay against the robots/machines looks great, after watching the Ai when attacking the humans, it turned me off (as did some of the lip syncing/acting) enough not to buy the game Day 1. Maybe if I had a 4K tv I would have done but I aint and I don't intend to buy one until there is a bit more maturity in the hardware. I will buy HZD eventually but the emphasis on making the game run at such a high resolution obviously meant certain areas of the game with budget/time/available resources to the game engine were cut.

However, like with everything in life, there is always the other side. Alienation (amongst others) looks quite a bit like shit on a 65" Screen and that could def do with a resolution boost and one I'd welcome lol!

With that I can see it can't be easy for Developers - they aren't always going to make the right choice that pleases everyone. Perhaps Sony could help though by starting to allow options for (updated or not) pro patches and whilst they're at it, put something in place to stop those who only own 1080p screens not getting fucked with no SS (as an option) if they want it (if the game has a higher res mode).

The unlocked framerate is still 45-60 fps so if it would had super sampling (SS), we wouldn't have that good framerate. I just want to say that I as a PS4 Pro owner am really grateful for all Pro-modes that lay its weight on better FPS over better resolution. In my view, that reduces both eye fatigue and improves the original gaming experience a lot.

Still, it's good to have many graphical options but i guess Tango/Bethesda didn't think it was worth all the work for a game which hasn't sold so well yet.

I'm still not sure which to get yet and I had been leaning toward the Pro.

But, for example, and please any correct me, but the new Wolfenstein for example, Pro only scales it up to 1440p. The dynamic scaler on the 1X goes much higher than the Pro. Generally, that makes sense cuz it's more powerful...

But DF pointed out that 1440p on Pro seemed low... even during the most intensive scenes, 1440p frame rate was near perfect, and they mentioned how 1440p seemed actually kinda low and too conservative. So, why doesn't it dynamically scale higher if the framerate suggests the Pro can actually handle it?

Is it a Pro thing (something about how it scales vs the 1X dynamic scaler) or is it purely on the devs?
 
Bandwith and vram, its similar to pc, the moment you hit the vram limit your performance tank with idtech 5 or 6. That's why they shouldn't have cheap out on the vram on the pro when they build that thing. Not very forward thinking, a mere 500mb bump isn't enough for a system that's suppose to go higher than 1080p. If they had added another 4 gigs of gddr5, it probably would have hold up better against the x. Should be able to use 4k texture pack at least for upcoming games. Now all they can do is cutting down OS ram reserve and maybe downgrade pro to 1080p UI and squeeze free up the 500mb the reserved for 4k UI. Still a very huge gap is memory difference between the X.

It could well be memory limitations - remember that increasing your framebuffer from 1080p takes more memory, and the Pro only gives developers an additional 512MB to work with over the base PS4. It could well that the performance overhead is there to go higher, but they just can't fit a bigger framebuffer into memory without making tradeoffs elsewhere (ie, they could maybe reduce the amount of memory allocated for texture streaming, but that would cause more visible streaming issues, etc, which might have a bigger impact in overall image quality than just capping the framebuffer at 1440p).

Sony needs to get better at RAM management for their OS. For a console OS, they have more reserved than MS needs to run Windows 10 and far more than what a Unix based system would need.

and ditch the 4K UI for the pro and go with 1080p upscaled, that will free up another 500mb. It's the game that counts. Their software team still suck consider how little the OS is doing.

Agreed.

Switch has 720p UI and it's fine. Games always need to have as much RAM as they can!

Fun fact: PS3 had a native 1080p UI, while XBOX 360 was 720p only.

Sony seems to be obsessed with native UI resolutions for some strange reason...

Think it's so people can have 4k backgrounds and all that. I like a good 4k background image but would never prioritise it over game performance.

There are numerous detailed posts regarding the Pro enhancements for this yea's The Show.

For 1080p displays you get high-framerate mode which seems to stick at 60fps all throughout gameplay. 1080p displays get NO supersampling with this game, so no image quality improvements over base PS4

For 4k displays you get enhanced framerate mode (60fps, 1080p resolution), or an enhanced detail mode that is 1440p resolution and variable 30-45 fps gameplay), or 4k mode which is native 4k but 30fps and dips below 30 a lot

Do it. I think a Google docs version would be far better. Easier to find specific games without looking over the entire image and overall more info could be input in text which would stop people having to ask if a game downsamples every few posts due to them not understanding the current format.

Yeah. I have a Pro and VR, but will need help with screenshots etc. as I won't have every game! But can do a certain amount of testing on what I own. Hopefully mostly be collating details from elsewhere on the web.
 
can anyone tell me what they suggest playing the evil within 2 with ps4 pro? I have it set right now under settings on my 4k tv to UHD graphics, and removed lock framerates, sometimes I see stutters but graphics look decent, should I change the settings on the system to 1080p and set to boost mode to get the highest fps?

Boost mode is only for games that don't have a Pro patch.

Boost mode won't effect games that have a Pro patch. Not tried the Evil Within 2 yet, but I always go for the higher resolution mode. Depends how much the stuttering annoys you. Can you go high resolution mode and lock the FPS (which I presume downgrades the graphics slightly)?

Most appreciated good sir, I have a Pro and a beastly PC, I can help with maybe screen shots of both games. I usually buy for my Pro and my PC just to try and find differences.

However, I would need some help uploading, as I enjoy the hell out of buying new tech and building PCs, I really don’t know much about software and stuff like that. When it comes to uploading and stuff, I drink a dumb potion and turn into a troglodyte!

I had the game on xbox one so it was whatever resolution with 30FPS so I never experienced it in higher resolution or in 60 fps, i'm thinking about getting all trophies so first play through at higher resolution, and second at the 1080p 60 fps.
