Am I the only one getting a bomba vibe from Disney's upcoming OZ film?

I keep going back & forth on this one. On the one hand, it does look a lot like the abysmal Alice in Wonderland. On the other, it's NOT Tim Burton directing. Parts of it look goofy and/or awkward. But I love Oz, and the scene they show with the wicked witch silhouetted in the fire is *awesome*. So I don't know.

As to box office, this'll have a much wider appeal than John Carter. I think it'll do OK.

An early (user) review on imdb mentions that Rami went pretty light on the cgi. Don't know how legit the review is however.

The story seems so recycled. Stranger in a strange land, may fulfill prophecy, actually isn't as great as they think he is, hides the fact, revelation to everyone that he's not so great, everyone's disappointed, rises up to face a challenge and win. There, that's the movie. I can see it being very successful though even if it looks by the numbers.

Speaking of Oz movies, I'm surprised they never turned Wicked into a movie. The book and musical were obscenely popular. They don't even have to make it a musical, the base story could serve as a feature film.

Wicked had some shitty ass music and was way too campy. But i guess i shouldve expected that. Great premise tho

I had an awkward dream about a week ago with James Franco and three girls I could not identify (I think one was Alison Brie). They were not these ones though... still, it was a weird dream.

I actually think it will do pretty well BECAUSE of Alice in Wonderland. It has the same live action cartoony vibe to it using similar classic source material and I think people will eat it up. Hopefully it will be a better movie.

Also I don't think it has to worry about Jack the Giant Slayer at all. If either of these movies are going to bomb, it will be that for sure.

I think people are discounting the broad appeal this movie has. It's going to get young, old, men and women. Its going to fail among young men though. Another thing it has going against it is the release date. People have been conditioned not to get excited for movies in March for decades now.

Is that considered a bomb today?

Watching the trailers for Oz and Jack the Giant Slayer, the only thing that interested me about either is Ewan McGregor in the latter. If by some chance he'd been cast in Franco's place instead, I'd be there for Oz day one.
maybe

I think it will do extremely well, actually.

I'm not sure how good the actual film will be (though Raimi is a pretty great director, IMO), but they're marketing it similarly to Alice and Wonderland, which somehow managed to gross $1B despite being a charmless godawful piece of shit.

And Oz is fairly popular right now, thanks in large part to Wicked.

It can't be any worse than John Carter. That movie was an absolute abomination. Truly feces (shit) you pull out of the toilet.

Oz is big business. Wicked didn't obtain giga-popularity out of nowhere. This movie will do well.

And yeah, that there hasn't been a fast-tracked Wicked adaptation for the cinemas baffles me. Say what you want about its quality, there are plainly many people who want that experience.

lol someone spoiled the ending for me

mila kunis becomes the witch because franco doesn't love her back

He's one of those people who you know is a douchebag despite never having met him and knowing nothing about him.

Anyway, this movie has Tron Legacy written all over it. I expect it to bomb hard.

A friend of mine worked on a sketch with him as a director. He is, indeed, a douche. It was right after all the Oscar backlash as well so he was extra douchey apparently.

It was spoiled basically by someone posting a picture of her, misidentified as another actress. that, combined with the trailer basically spells out who the Wicked Witch is, and why.

Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz are wicked.
But Rachel Weisz is wicked from the beginning, and Kunis becomes wicked (all according to Weisz keikaku), that's no mistery from the trailers.

........2nd-guessing my intentions to use the free preview pass I have....

Might just take one for GAF and report back.

I think it will do okay. The trailers looked alright and like others have mentioned, it certainly has the brand name of Oz going for it.

Fuck Jack the Giant Slayer though. Tired of every fairy tale needing a "dark reimagining".

Well, LET'S JUST SPOIL EVERYTHING, GUYS!

Yeah, they haven't exactly hidden it. I saw an official promo where they just came out and said it was going to happen.
