With all these psvr2 sold you'd expect to find someone to play beat saber against but no?

And as soon as I'm on quest 3, it's like the party never stopped

I'd imagine most won't be played with till Christmas. Then how many will be buying Beat Saber? I'm sure a large percentage, like 40% maybe.

This makes no sense. The acquisition is complete and has been for a while. They only needed COD on Playstation not everything else, and specially not Bethesda games like Indiana Jones or Sea of Thieves which was released many years ago.

If they are releasing their games on Playstation now that they have 30M Xbox consoles out there, you think they won't be releasing their games on Playstation if they start a new gen and don't release their games on their own previous hardware?

There's no going back from this model they are now doing. They even have games like Sea of Thieves on Playstation...they were investing on buying more Playstation devkits earlier this year as well. This isn't some short-term strategy for them.

That’s like saying Sony will stop bringing games to PC (even though they are in a far better position to do so). It generates money and Xbox’s exclusive ship has sailed.

At most, they’ll continue to stagger releases, but their games will continue to come to other consoles.

The money is made in people buying into the ecosystem. It’s the reason Sony doesn’t want to do day and date releases on PC. They want PSN subscribers and people buying games from their storefront on PlayStation. They care more about the lifetime value of the PSN subscriber vs just selling a couple copies of a game.

IMO it’s not far fetched to believe Xbox would put games on PS for now to build up an audience for each game and then have the sequels be Xbox/Game Pass exclusives in the future because that would get more people into their ecosystem which is we’re the real money is made. They need to keep at least some games exclusive if they plan to launch a new console or else only the Xbox die hard fans would buy the new console knowing they could play the same games on PlayStation or PC.

Having the option to get their games cheaper through game pass versus buying them for full price on PlayStation is another angle but as we saw with Call of Duty that isn’t going to work because Sony is going to mainly benefit from that strategy because it doesn’t drive people into the Xbox/game pass ecosystem.

Phil wasn't elongating that nose when he said he's got to balance the books. Selling masses of hardware at a loss makes no sense when traditional consoles are less and less relevant to your goals as a business.

Porting games to other platforms prints money. The cold, hard reality of a no red numbers and no red lines policy.

The risk of staying the same course that is going in a negative trajectory is also significant. Doesn't matter as Spencer has already confirmed more consoles are on the way. Hopefully they have a new strategy. This one isn't working.

The biggest risk is keeping Spencer in that role. It’s incomprehensible that he’s stayed in that position for over a decade now.

From a succession planning point of view, that doesn’t even make sense. Nintendo and Sony have changed the guard in that timeframe, bringing in new idea. Meanwhile folks like Greenberg ossify in place as dinosaurs.

It is far fetched when the CEO has already said they will be continuing these things in the future and the state of Xbox is where it is. You have to actually have the audience to carry exclusives and theirs has dwindled gen over gen.

It’s dead, Jim.

Good.....it fucking deserves it, it's a great device (even as a PC headset) and has some amazing games that people are sleeping on because they're VR games.

GT7 VR is one of the best games of this generation and most people have no idea. RE4 VR too.

I would argue gt7 in VR is one of the best gaming experiences of all time. You're right. People have no idea how much it's elevated by the psvr2.

Agree. Xbox needs a new vision. This just isn't working.

So, doesn't look like CoD on GPU has done much to turn around console sales. So I wonder what its done for subs. Maybe move to higher tiers for existing and new growth PC side? I know I'm permanently out once my British telecoms freebie ends summer next year.

Probably not that much. For a company that loves to brag about engagement numbers, if there had been a massive, or even significant, uptick in Game Pass subscribers, they would have yelled it from the rooftops in Redmond. They wouldn’t give concrete numbers because they never do, but they would have been in full PR bragging mode about increased new subs.

Xbox’s silence has been deafening. We’re now deep into the holiday season with one of their biggest (timed) exclusive releases coming out in days and I’ve seen zero marketing. I sat on my ass most of these last five days watching both NFL and college football and didn’t see a single ad for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle or Game Pass. But I saw Sony’s generic PlayStation ad a dozen or so times.

Microsoft seems completely rudderless in the Xbox division.

The next quarterly report will be very interesting because it will be the 1st quarter where Xbox+ABK revenues get compared on an apples-to-apples basis AND it's coincidentally the COD quarter if my memory does not fail me (it frequently does).

Playstation quantity and quality pretty much every year. Xbox has pretty much never had that in a single year, ever.....and now their games are coming to PS5 too.
No disrespect to any of those games but none of them are even great enough for that😂😂more like the 360 to ps4 marketshare they lost during xbone debacle they’ll never fully recover from.

It's not just about those games. It's that it's consistently like that every year on PlayStation and isn't on Xbox for years now.

It's never one thing or one game, it's the entire package on offer every year that separates PS and Xbox, as they are extremely similar otherwise.

It would be insanely hard to recommend someone and Xbox over a PlayStation, imo. Like I said, they're basically the same but on PlayStation you get extra stand out titles every year consistently from 1st and 3rd party on PlayStation......even VR and things like that.

They only seem so similar because most of Microsoft’s moves involved chasing PlayStation. SEGA had the right idea when they entered a competition with the SNES and brought their own competitors to fight, instead of simply chasing Nintendo’s 3rd Party deals.

Out of that came stuff like Altered Beast (no Nintendo equivalent), Sonic (their answer to Mario), Streets of Rage (a direct competitor to Final Fight - which turned out to be decently popular on SNES), and ToeJam & Earl (which while not SEGA’s was published by them and a staple of the Genesis platform and, yet again, without a Nintendo equivalent). They had an identity and the Genesis felt like a worthy alternative despite Nintendo’s foothold on the industry.

Xbox always felt like it just wanted to be PlayStation.

Xbox has given up this generation, there's going to be a massacre in favor of PS5 this quarter, it's incredible that Spencer, Greenberg, etc... keep their jobs.
This quarter might be the beginning of the push for PS5 to outsell Xbox Series 3 to 1. They were almost tied 2 years ago when Sony couldn't produce PS5 units, they were close to 2 to 1 a year ago...3 to 1 next.

This quarter might be the biggest gap these 2 brands ever had on Q4 between each other tbh.

PSVR2 is the best accessory in the history of console gaming. If every PS5 gamer had actually tried it this year, those numbers would be MUCH higher. I'd wager less than 10% have even put on a headset, much less something as good as PSVR2.

If these numbers are accurate I'd expect the worldwide sales for november to be in the 4-5:1 range

I was talking about lifetime sales.

This quarter in the USA it will be at least 3 to 1 at this point. WW it will be MUCH worse.
Nah I don't think it'll get to 3:1 lifetime, right now it's around 65m:28ish (estimate), ps5 would need to sell 13+m this holiday and more likely 15m to make it 3:1. Ain't gonna happen. Maybe by mid next year though, I don't see xbox sales going anywhere but off a cliff

This just goes to show how STUPID it was for Xbox to completely skip multiple generations of VR in every way. When people wonder how MS screwed up Xbox, not having any VR option is in the top 10 list.

And it won't stop growing. Not saying it will "take over" gaming but not having a VR option is dumb.

I mean Xbox could have had this YEARS ago and blew minds. Instead we had to wait on modders.

the games are now coming on PS5. Why would anyone even buy an Xbox when they can just buy a PS5 and play all Xbox catalog AND PS5 as well?
You’re obviously living in the future. Unfortunately here in the real current timeline only 4 Xbox games has been ported to PS5 to far. And new games like Indy (and 3rd party Stalker 2, the real GOTY) are delayed on PS5.

And waiting for games sucks. I know it because of Sony’s PC delays. So people might buy a Xbox to not have to wait. What MS are doing is actually extremely similar to what Sony has been doing on PC. But it’s still the early days, MS are still testing the waters, Sony is much further away on spreading out to PC than MS is to PS.

Also, there is no rumour about the whole catalog being available on PS, or even PC. They’ll need some emulation layer to do that. And a future with web access of the Xbox launcher for streaming or the actual Xbox app for native installs on PS is highly uncertain since Sony might not want Gamepass and Microsoft Store eating on their software sales.

Could end up like you say but it’s all baby steps so far and MS work slower than anyone else so don’t expect PS5 to be a home for all Xbox games, could possibly happen on PS6.

Just 3 years ago, xbox was still quite strong in the US. Now it's significantly weakened since then. I assume this accelerated their transition to multiplatform.

Not at all but saying that there is no point to buy a Xbox because you ”can just buy a PS5 and play all Xbox catalog AND PS5 as well” is obviously false when there is 4 ports out… There is like 20 Sony ports out on PC. So definitely no point to have a PS5 either then when you can just buy a PC and play all Xbox games day 1 AND PS games as well? 🤷‍♂️

As I said, Microsoft is doing like Sony on PC. Timed exclusivity and uncertainty when/if ports of past game will come. Have fun waiting or buy into their ecosystem. It works, I have a Pro even though I play 99% on PC, wasn’t worth the money but waiting sucks.

And seriously, what games would people have bought a Xbox for during this period? Flight Sim?

Stalker 2 has just come out, Indy will be out in a couple days. Those might get someone without a PC interested in Xbox as a budget solution, if they don’t want to wait.

But we already clearly see it happening.

That's apart from the fact that Indy already got announced for PS5 and Spencer recently stating more titles are coming:

PC and consoles are completely different markets with completely different demographics.

This is an apples-to-oranges comparison.

MS and PS are not the same:

Xbox will be gone if they don't go 3rd party.

Sony is trying to grow the console-market and their marketshare, because they already dominate it.
They're branching out.

Sure, but there's barely any interest left. At least for Xbox. For consoles, PS is just the better option.

More games are coming, okay sure seems logical. But is that the same as all games are on PS5? No.

For real, it doesn’t matter that we can see something happen, it’s a completely unrealistic idea. You haven’t thought about it long enough if you don’t realize what a mountain of work it would be to get all games on PS5. Everything isn’t even on PC and that’s their own platform. They can’t just go through the Xbox library, choose ”compile to PS5”, publish on PlayStation Store, there done. Unless it’s Unreal Engine then it might be possible in theory but it would still be a boat load of work through testing and optimization and licensing and what not.

Realistically, the best case scenario you’ll see is a web based streaming app for Gamepass library and your purchased games on Microsoft Store plus select native ports, arriving late.

And that’s if Sony even allow it. Which I doubt. Sony gain nothing from Gamepass and having Microsoft’s store on their platform, it’s just eating on their software money. I don’t think it’ll happen until there is a court forcing other stores to be allowed on Playstation because Sony becomes too big for the high end console market. Another Apple vs Epic scenario.

What doesn't matter is the gist of your post, because word on the street will be: "just buy a Playstation, it'll get Xbox games as well".

This doesn't even have to mean all games, just a few is already enough.
PS and Xbox have been fighting over the very same demographic and Xbox releasing games on Playstation is just going to make the choice easier for people to go with Playstation.

Word on street can be whatever people will quickly find out that it’s just hopes and dreams and you actually still need a Xbox to play all Xbox games. And then what? Buy a Xbox or a PC, or play the waiting game. There is no shortcut there, except streaming, maybe.

What's interesting is that Apple vs Epic ended up being a near-total win for Apple.

The Gamepass initative is being pared down now anyways.

Yeah, but then we have sales data that show there's almost no interest in Xbox left.
Even the US market is taking a complete nosedive.
