That was a good episode. Lana and Kit triumphing over Bloody Face was fantastic - the good guys finally got their moment to stick it to the bad guy! F yeah!

Other thoughts:

Sister Jude has gone from the frying pan and into the fire. Now she's stuck inside Briarcliff and has to deal with Eunice and Arden, on top of all the inmates who hate her + aliens and manimals.

I loved the locks of hair and denture Christmas tree ornaments. So forward thinking and resourceful of Sister Mary Eunice. :D

I thought last week would be the last we saw of Grace, but it looks like the aliens have other plans for her...

Ian McShane was one creepy ass Santa! Holy Shit.

McShane is fucking legend.

"What do you say we blow this post and go savage a few elves, then suck on each other?"

Can't see anybody else in this world delivering that line so perfectly as McShane.

I really wonder where this can go.

So interesting how the aliens too Grace.

So the next episode teaser has spoilers? I will not watch then?

Oh boy, I didn't know the homicidal Santa mentioned in the synopsis was going to be Al Cocksucker Swearengen. How much more can this season possibly top itself?

To be honest, I find the Monsignor's complete obliviousness in regards to the going on's in the asylum to be pretty ridiculous. The character has been completely under utilized and a shame for Fiennes.

Great episode.

McShane was amazing. Make him a full-time cast member next year please Ryan Murphy. Cromwell's Arden continues to amaze. That story about the earrings was horrific.

After seeing Shelly, I don't think he's oblivious at all. At this point, he's trying to salvage what he can.

Frank's death is out of the blue, thought he really did survive her assassination attempt. :(

But :lol at the red flash for that death. Could've done a better way. Like L&O:SVU's scissors to the neck death scene. D:

Also is Sister Jude fucked? I really hope Lana and Kit come to her rescue to where she has a moment of redemption over being a cruel mistress of the ward.

Considering how much Sister Jude screwed Lana and Kit over while they were inside, I'd be pretty disappointed to see them rescue her. I was actually hoping that she wasn't going to escape her situation with Santa. That would have made me a little more hopeful for stronger twists and turns in the future.

Never in a million years that i would have believe that American horror story would be better then boardwalk, walking dead, and homeland this season. Completely out of left field.

Boardwalk was alright this season but no were near top tier, walking dead is dragging, and homeland turned into silly putty shit. I am very much enjoying this season more then all of those right now. Seriously.

Hmmm, I'm waiting for Boardwalk and Homeland seasons to finish to watch them, but I am enjoying AHS more than Walking Dead. AHS has really stepped up acting-wise this season.

dave is ok

aztek is ok
Was anyone else fooled by Arden?

It was kind of a trick to show us that ruby scene. Made no sense after the reveal

Boardwalk is over, fyi

You are going to be disappointed about homeland. It jumped the shark hard. If i have to rank the mid season finals and finales by seasons among them,i think walking dead is better then both boardwalk and homeland right now.
....

This season acting and cast is amazing. Ryan murphy stepped his game up.

it's a good show, but woah dude

Not a crazy opinion at all. In terms of dramas currently airing AHS has been the second best all fall at any given time in my opinion (behind Treme initially, and now behind The Hour).

It's easily better than another boring slog of a Boardwalk season, a falling apart Homeland, and a season of Walking Dead that people are wildly overpraising only because of how bad the first two seasons were.

AHS is the most entertaining show on TV right now. Where ever I go, people talk about how "crazy" The Walking Dead is. Then I ask them if they've been watching AHS.

Also, McShane made a fantastic Santa. The opening scene was... wow, fucked up.

Hell yeah, I was happy as hell for both of those characters even if it's a small win for them. They still need to make it out of that damn place. Ian McShane was great, really brutal/psychotic role and he nailed it.

I still want to know just where do the aliens fit into all this. I mean Grace is dead after all. I can't believe I just said aliens, this show has been insane this season and I love it.

I agree. He's one of the top names in the credits and he's only been in a few scenes. Hopefully he'll be more prominent in later episodes.

YES. yes Oh god that would be awesome.

S1 got horrible after the Black Dhalia episode...

you guys all seem really excited about s2...

will give it a shot.

Season 2 is way better than the mostly awful first season.

It's funny you said that, seeing as Asylum's good look is due in part to how much better it looked in comparison to a trainwreck of a first season (much worse than anything in Walking Dead S1 & 2). Asylum is good this season - really, really improved and fun - but it's nowhere near "best drama", certainly not near The Hour or Treme. It wasn't even the best drama that aired in 2012 on FX.

Too much shit talk about season 1 going on. The final 3 or 4 episodes of that were BANANAS. Loved it but it was so tonally different than this one but that's why I love it. I can't even begin to imagine what they've cooked up for season 3. It truly feels like they are blowing their load on this season with the "Everything AND the kitchen sink" mentality.

I would donate a testicle if they did a "future" season. Some kind of light sci-fi set on a futuristic Earth or even harder sci-fi set on like a US Space Station or something (gotta stay true to the titular "American"). Lang could be a batty old school marm on the USA's first Mars colony where we discover they may have been more life on the planet than we thought. Make it happen Ryan Murphy! Go watch Alien and Pitch Black and Event Horizon and get on it! They've already shown that they aren't too good for aliens in their show. Let's go all out!

Season 1 and season 2 isn't in the same universe, in both aspects....lol....but with shows that is always in best drama talks, asylum is far and away better this year.

EDIT: the hour and asylum will be competing against each other this year in the miniseries category. Asylum is currently the favorite on goldderby.com right behind game change...

I loved Lana's "One day, I'll bury you" line to Thredson. And Sister Eunice to Arden, "Did you celebrate Christmas in your Nazi household?" was great too.

McShane needs to come back next season. He was just brutal and disturbing.

Agree. I enjoyed season 1, although I like this one a little more. maybe it's different that I didnt discover this show until this season. A few weeks ago I went back and smashed season 1 in about 3 days. I liked it.

It's pretty cool to see some of the same actors playing completely different roles. I hated Tate but I kinda like Kit.

That's weird because I fucking LOVED Tate but I am not really warming to Kit at all. His behaviour to me is just stupid - he isn't really Bloodyface but he's acting like he has something to hide.

It's so done to death, people who could have things better choose the harder way out.

I guess he wanted to save Grace, but still, I think there are better ways to go about it.

Man, the mid-season break is going to absolutely KILL me.

So we got:

Aliens
Robot Alien Creatures
Nazis
Satan (or a Hell demon of sorts)
Death
Serial Killers
Amputee Monsters

All we need are:

Vampires
Werewolves
Zombies
Pirates
Ninjas

This season is ridiculous. Some good episodes, but they're trying to do too much and its losing direction/appeal for me.

I really liked Death though.

yeah, i quit a few eps in when i got this vibe too. if there's any particular eps worth checking out maybe ill revisit them, but otherwise im about done with this show.

Just caught up with the episode.

What the fuck, McShane is fucking deranged. Now this is a Christmas special I can get behind.

Felt bad about Jude. Fucking Arden. Never Trust Arden. Damn it, Jude. Was happy to see the return of the aliens. I hope they're the ones who bring about some kind of divine retribution on Arden... how'd he like to be the one experimented on for a change. Grace looked really pretty in that dream sequence. I wonder what the aliens want her for.

I was fucking ecstatic when Kit and Lana took down Threadsen. I really hope they utterly destroy him.

Poor Frank.

I've kind of thought about the way (my dumb theory, no actual spoilers)
that Arden might be an alien. It just came into my head as I was reading your thoughts. His initials are A. A. and that just seems like a weird coincidence. I mean, why wasn't Arthur shocked when he saw the chip?

Yeah, but then he proceeded to torture Kit to find out if he was sent from the CIA or the KGB. Unless that was just for show... to just Kit.

surprise to see Ian McShane (watching Deadwood right now). really enjoyed his crazy Santa Claus role.

great they didn't kill Bloody Face which means he escape... present time?

Well,
he could be researching to find out if Kit "realised" what happened to him during the abduction.
.

It's a bit stupid of a theory from me but I love speculating :3

That's a great thing about the show... you can speculate anything to the farthest extent of your imagination, and that's actually perfectly valid.

Murphy has done an interview about the next episode.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/12/06/american-horror-story-ryan-murphy-unholy-night-exclusive/

It's a little bit spoilery, but I've summarised it here and spoiled any pertinent points just to be sure.

  • Murphy didn't really like the idea of Christmas and struggled thinking how to tie it into American Horror Story.
  • Ian McShane loved the first series, so Murphy wrote the part of Santa for him
  • They have extended the role from one episode to two episodes because they were so impressed with Ian McShane.
  • The final episode is being written right now.
  • Given that this is the final episode before the mid-season break, they are throwing in roughly five cliffhangers (so one for each story arc, I suppose?)
  • Lange enjoyed playing Jude because the character is questioning her faith constantly, and finding faith in something else.
  • There is no hope or happiness in the next two episodes.
  • Murphy comments that Mary Eunice's
    overall fate
is the only one you could actually imagine.
  • The Monsignor's character will be explored in much greater detail next episode.
  • Jessica Lange loved working with Ian McShane. They said they both enjoyed their scene in her office towards the end of the episode.
  • You will find out what the Aliens want in the next episode.
  • Pepper
will be returning in the next episode,
    her absence was intentional
and has been written into the story.
  • Regarding the above point,
Pepper returns with a very "unusual change".
  • The new character introduced next episode, played by
    Dylan McDermott
    is a "sexy, no-education, dirty, drug-addict, grifter."
  • A Silent of the Lambs actress appears in the next episode as a cameo.

That's a different Bloody Face. If that was Threadsen, he'd be... in his late 70s.

My wife and I caught this.

When future bloody face calls the cops to inform them that an imposter would be found with the bodies, it sounds A LOT like the voice of Dylan McDermott from the previous series. After the end of the last episode (Christmas Special) I believe I saw him on the "upcoming scenes" section at the end. I'm pretty sure his character will be involved with regards to the future of Bloody face and we'll start to see how that takes shape next episode.

They have already
confirmed that he is returning as Bloody Face. You can find official photos of him on some sites already
