Soccer Made In Portland is hypothesizing that a significant player that the Timbers may be going after is Aurellin Collin. Oh god please oh please oh please.

Ireland JV-1
US-0

Really poor pass from Bedoya led to the break.

That's a seemingly innocuous mistake, to give the ball away in the opponent's half, but those seemingly small mistakes are what separate teams like the US as of now and Germany.

Great teams don't take anything too casually.

pretty much nothing good coming from the US right now, Hamid recovered nice and seems composed.

Midfield is a mess.

Defenders are shook.

Wouldn't surprise me. I don't really expect Collin to be in SKC blues next season. Deserved or not, he's going to want money that we're not willing to pay and probably won't come down from what he thinks he's worth.

US looked lost today. Lots of guys didn't know what they were supposed to be doing on either side of the ball. I can understand a young team getting outplayed by superior opposition, or trying a new system and getting hammered because of it. But this was more a bunch of guys who didn't look like they had a plan and didn't look like they wanted to be there. Find an identity as a team and try something...anything. Ugh.

I thought Bedoya played ok aside from his giveaway in the first half. Good to get a couple younger guys some minutes, but otherwise this was a complete train wreck.

after minute 55, this team is donezo.

Besler has looked awful since the WC. Gonna throw out the possibility of overtraining here.

Our midfield is pure crap and we can't make anything happen through the middle. Most of our best creativity comes off the fullbacks.

Forwards aren't confident.

is overtraining to blame when the team can't hold possession for long stretches and constantly chasing the game?

Always the same shit. Barrage after barrage of attack towards the US goal. And when we do get the ball, terrible first touch or bad pass to give it away.

Still pretty infuriating that Nguyen didn't come on until the 78th minute, or get called in before the World Cup (hell the Revs were the most entertaining team in MLS even last season)...
It's possible that the Revs requested he only play 15 minutes

The level of cognitive dissonance is amazing... Yeah MAYBE the Revs requested that Nguyen only play 15 minutes. Of course NOTHING ANYWHERE has claimed that was the case. And the other Revs player Jones (who was injured and missed games not too long ago) played the full game so I guess they're not concerned about him even though they just paid millions of dollars for him. Yedlin played 86 minutes even though he's still involved in the MLS playoffs. But maybe Nguyen (who started 32/34 games) is so fragile that he can only handle 12 minutes, yeah that's why the best midfielder we have right now didn't get nearly as many minutes as guys like Wood and Morales. Let's grasp at nonexistent straws to avoid looking at Klinsmann.
Let's start from the premise that Klinsmann knows what he's doing and then concoct some explanation for his inexplicable decisions... if Donovan doesn't make the roster clearly it's because Brad Davis and Graham Zusi and Julian Green are better than him.

Besler has looked awful since the WC.

Why even call in Besler? Why not tell him to just worry about getting ready for the 2015 season and call in center backs who have performed far better than him recently and have yet to be given a chance with the national team, for example 24 year old FC Dallas captain and one of the best defenders in the league over the last two seasons Matt Hedges?

Clearly it's all about the quality of our players, that's the problem here. Our players are simply not as good as Ireland minus Robbie Keane. Maybe one day the US can not get humiliated 4-1 by the soccer powerhouse that is Ireland but it will take years under Klinsmann's guidance for us to reach that elite level and until then we'll just have to take our lumps.

This US side should be able to beat full-strength Ireland let alone the JV squad

Not really, you may not see Ireland at many major tournaments but it's not a myth that it's harder to qualify from UEFA. The A team drew against Germany in Germany in a qualifier last month.

4-1 though...

sure overtraining is to blame when you can't even put one foot forward right. That German and his training. Should stuck with an American. Then we can get proper respect for MLS and give the league its due.

Not like dudes like McGeady and Long wouldn't walk into our squad....
