Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

Not open for further replies.
I went to a new walmart today (it opened maybe 2-3 months ago). They had an Amiibo section, but they didnt have a SINGLE amiibo. It was all Wii accessories, no figurines.

What the actual fuck?

My gf is heading to the beach this tuesday and she is going to check the stores there for me. Im hoping people in South Padre dont give a shit about amiibos and there are 100 villagers, marths and wft's.

Hey, a guy can dream, right?

Got a shipping confirmation for my Pit from Amazon when it had a backorder a couple days ago. Hopefully my Amazon.de order of Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Ttrainer ships out tonight since Germany's like what, eight hours ahead of EST?

Just need to be on the lookout for Captain Falcon and Little Mac to complete the whole collection. I'm only getting a Peach from TRU since I was one of the unlucky ones to get CF cancelled. :'(

Reading the FAQ it seems that depending on your payment option the reference currency will be EUROs, I am not very sure, but they have the prizes their shipping separately, as in they charge you for sending out, plus the personal shipping company you prefer to use.

The total right now for one amiibo says: ¥2,680 But I don;t think that's taking into account the other 2,680 for the preferred shipping option.

Agreed. It's just an option for future reference anyway. I imagine only the hardcore collectors would go this route if anything else proved fruitless. If any other option comes along I'll be sure to post it.

A WalMart near me is like that. They have the amiibo section all fucked and put the amiibos on a shelf by themselves near an endcap of light bulbs.

WalMart is disorganized as hell.

Upon further messing with site and cart order, the total is what you will actually be charged, you just have to update cart once you change the shipment option, however the site is based in france, so if you pay in Dollars you are probably gonna get a charge fee to change to EURO, and THEN convert EURO to Yen.

Read some reviews/impressions, and they seem to be generally reliable, but I think I will just try my luck with release day on gamestop.

I opened my villager amiibo I'd been keeping sealed because my niece wanted to put him into the game. she's 7.

if that ain't being a good uncle, what is.

You could give it to her as a gift...

she doesn't really collect amiibos (maybe she will once she's able to put them into her 3ds version -- there's no adapter or new 3ds available stateside yet) but if she wanted him she could have him. I turn to mush whenever she wants something.

Going to share my experience with importing Captain Falcon and Little Mac, who arrived on Wednesday but I only realized they were waiting at my post office today.

I bought them from nippon yasan. My order consisted of:

Little Mac - 1368 yen -> 9.47 € -> $13.66 Canadian

Captain Falcon - 1368 yen -> 9.47 € -> $13.66 Canadian

Samus figma - 4788 yen -> 33.24 € -> $46.85 Canadian

Shipping - 19,98 € -> $28.24 Canadian

More or less cost me $102 Canadian. I'd guess without the figma I'd be at $48-ish Canadian.

At the MSRP of amiibo here along with no shipping cost (since I buy in store or get free shipping), I could have bought another amiibo (assuming I went with only the two amiibos). But it was for my brother and Little Macs were hard to come by. Also wanted dat Samus.

Edit: Also I guess this is my welcome to NeoGAF post. Howdy all. Happy hunting!

So has anyone started collecting from scratch after christmas? Id like to hear your progress
I kind of did. I bought Link about a week after they were released and was content for the time being since I wanted to wait & hear what other games would make use of amiibo. I didn't get anymore until Xmas where I got 3 more that I figured would be the most useful to me (Mario, Yoshi, & Kirby) & that's when I really wanted to start collecting them. Not to mention I got two of them (Luigi & DK) for $8.50 each thanks to GS doing their Kongregate $5 off coupon deal not long after Xmas.

I started just before Christmas.

Fox from yoyo.com
Captain Falcon from Amazon
Pit from a very kind soul here
Kirby (common)
Donkey Kong (common)
Samus (common)
Little Mac from Gamestop (coming Wednesday)
Diddy from Amazon
Wii Fit Trainer/Marth/Villager from Amazon Japan (sitting at the in-laws house until I go back)
Rosalina/Metaknight/Lucario pre-orders in from Amazon Japan (will still try to get US ones...)
Megaman, Ike, King DeDeDe, and Sonic on reserve from Gamestop.com

I've got everything I want til wave 4.

Thanks for the insight and welcome!

Adding up I think the Nin Nin Game order for Shulk would be about 35 dollars with the fastest shipping, and about 20-30 depending on other shipping options, not counting possible additional fees. Nooot so bad, but then again, we don't even know how rare the store exclusive ones will be, so I think I am just gonna try out my luck :T

I've used nin-nin for getting a 3ds to play Smash 3 weeks early. They managed to get me it in time, so there's that. But yeah, shipping can be expensive. Tempted to get a WFT from there since I got a $5 off coupon (from buying the 3ds).

I started around 12/29... I previously thought Amiibos were a waste due to the lack of functionality. But as someone who adores nintendo and has little merchandise reflecting that, I decided Amiibos were a good place to start. Plus, far better functionality is coming in the future (hopefully). Regardless, 50 figures seemed like an obtainable, yet impressive feat.

I took advantage of TRU's buy one get one 40% off deal. I bought 6 from them.

- Mario, DK, Link, Samus, Pikachu and Kirby.

I then went out on a hunt on my own and bought 4 more.

- Yoshi, Luigi, Peach and Diddy.

A few days later, after stalking Gamestop's stock page.. I was able to locate a store that had both Captain Falcon and Pit in store. That was a good day in Amiibo hunting.

This is when it became much harder as the remaining figures are far more hard to come by locally, and online. I decided I wanted to get the remaining W1 and W2 figures.. and pre-order most of W3.

- Little Mac (gamestop online, luckily)

- Marth, Villager and WFT (imported)

- Rosalina, Lucario (imported)

- Then pretty much all the rest of W3 preordered at my local Gamestop.

So yeah... ive done some pretty big damage in only a few weeks.

Yep you can get that price for those. At some point the prices are going to plateau. Once interest in amiibos becomes more based in reality, there is kind of a craze right now. People are ever only going to spend so much on a plastic figure. I've been selling on ebay for a long time, my advice is if you plan on selling these, sell them within the next month.

So I just watched an eBay auction go down for the trinity (Marth, wft, villager)

http://m.ebay.com/itm/271725323404?nav=SEARCH

298 US that works out to $353 CDN.

That's crazy I think I'm going to list mine. I have never used eBay before ... Any tips on how to not get scammed?

You can set buyer requirements to help protect you somewhat. You can prevent people with negative feedback from bidding, for example.

Make sure you use a tracking number with whichever shipping service you use and make sure you package things nicely. I usually offer a 14 day return policy but I make it clear items must remain unopened.

Wow that's crazy. I've been all of wave 1 and 2 go for $550-600 on eBay.

Ultimately it's what I might do, just sell the whole collection but shipping is going to be insane. Finding a box big enough for wave 1 and 2 alone will be a challenge. That's 18 figures.

I don't have any feedback myself though having never used eBay. How does payment work? Dies the seller get paid before shipping?

That's insane. Much as I hate the type of low life scalping that turns everything into a collectible the price point Is definite motivation to not open my Euro trinity...like ever! If it's $298 now I wonder what it will be in 6 months.

You'll need to sign up for Paypal first and link your account. Yeah the seller gets paid by the buyer, and then the seller is expected to ship the package as soon as possible.

Some advice, don't spend any of the money you receive until either positive feedback is left or a month or so has passed. If they decide to file a claim or return it, you'll owe that money. The good news is most people won't bother to return on large items because they would have to pay for the shipping back.

Anyway, I can't stand the amiibo packaging even though it looks nice. I wish that Nintendo would package these amiibos differently, they are so bulky and easy to damage but then again, why make it easier for resellers, that's not what these are for.

Just guessing one guy posting from Canada on the same day I get a Skype saying his account's been activated.

I could be wrong, but it's just too convenient.

Come on now, lets not play werewolf with new users now, even the whole putting links in the email is paranoid as fuck, this is all information that is going up on reddit or on our spreasheets anyway,

What makes this thread cool is how inviting and cool everyone is, lets not be paranoid and just enjoy the metagame.

Oh man off topic, but I love werewolf, does Gaf plays it in community or something?

I considered it, but I have a feeling my interest in amiibos will fade fast. I'm not even really into smash brothers. That being said, there are certain figures I do want to keep like Shulk.

I'm really afraid this might happen. Were I just lose interest because lack of support. I love smash and I love how I can interact with my amiibos, but I need more games like smash not just costumes to keep me interested.

Welcome John!

I still can't believe that people are giving him what he really want. Actually, I think some people here should stop being obsessed with John unless he's actually your friend. If not then just let it go, dude.

I know where he live because of his address being shown in irc chatroom. It's not Canada.

Amiibo |OT3| Dear John.

Amiibo |OT3| No Johns?

Anyways Captain Falcon and Pit were shipped by Amazon a couple of days ago and are inbound along with my Okami artbook. Now to wait for Wave 3. Preordered all non-exclusives (and 2 Shulks) and will wait to see which end up being rare.

I want to at least get a chance at having one of each without worrying about finding these darn rares...

Just let the buyers buy them it doesn't affect you anyways.

Well it does, when scalpers are emptying stores so they can resell them online. Which is obviously happening.

Still, people need to spend less time worrying about scalpers I agree. They will keep doing what they do regardless of the harsh words you have for them. Perfectly fine people, like myself, resell things from time-to-time. I think some people take it too far, but again, what can you do? Hope the stores limit stock is about it.

I don't know I see some people in here being hypocritical saying this is the best time to sell their holy trinity. Also see some people stating if they should sell these down the line. You should just count those as scalpers as well. Also it is not the best time to sell the holy trinity.

Although i agree there are scalpers who go way too far there is nothing anyone can do about it and that's why i don't worry about it.

Although a part of me wishes retail stores would implement a like 1-2 character per customer limit, it would be the first time a retail store did it, they used to do this all the time in the 90s with stuff like Furbies, Hot wheels etc.

This thread is supposed to be about amiibos and it's getting way off track. I'll just agree with you.

Has anybody else that has their BB preorders preparing for shipment had theirs canceled or shipped? Mine has been preparing since December 22nd. I would love to cancel the order since Amazon has already shipped me both Pit and CF. Problem is I used $30 of promotional credits and gift card which I'm sure will go bye bye.
