Not in Canada. He was only available for preorder for about half an hour before they sold out. Same with Meta Knight, but they did offer him twice on Best Buy's web site, and then once more on Future Shop's web site.

Target cancelled my Pit Preorder 2 weeks ago even though I had already him preordered for over 2 months prior... :/ I'm really just tempted to import him along with ike because this is getting ridiculous.
 
My Pit/Falcon have been in the "preparing order" phase on bestbuy.com for 5 days now :/ Things aren't seeming too hopeful.
 
So honestly, what IS the best way to 100% secure an Amiibo?

I'd think preordering would suffice, but people are constantly lamenting that TRU, Target, Amazon, etc cancel out their preorders.

Going to the store is a wash, because nobody knows when the hell a given figure is supposed to release or how many of said figure a store will even get.

Don't even suggest buying them second hand with the price gouging going on and psychopaths like that John guy.

Is importing from another country really the best, most effective way to secure the Amiibo you want?

I'm not even talking about buying them for reselling purposes I mean just getting the damn figure you want to use or collect. From Wave 3 I want Mega Man, Toon Link, and Rosalina, but I honestly have no idea how to go about getting them with all these shenanigans stores are pulling.

1. Preorder at gamestop or (if gamestop is out of stock) amazon.

2. If gamestop, use in-store pickup and go there as early as possible on launch day. Make sure you call the store before you head out to confirm they have what you're looking for. If for some reason they don't, question them and bring up your pre-order.

That's what I'm doing for Wave 3 anyway. From what I've seen in this thread (and my own experience) gamestop is the most reliable with these things and in-store pickup is more reliable than shipping which can get randomly cancelled at any time.

If what you want is out of stock at GS/Amazon you can try Best Buy/Target/TRU but they've all been known to cancel orders, so no order is truly secured until it's shipped.

For your specific characters, I suggest doing the above for Megaman and Toon Link ASAP. As for Rosalina, good luck. Thread title's as it is for a reason: she's really tough to nab a pre-order for. You might be better off just checking a Target in person on launch day.

I think this John guy said he was still waiting for his GAF app to go through. I don't think he's an actual member yet, he's just creeping right now. He wouldn't have a name or a means of directly contacting you through GAF yet.
 
Excuse me guys, is it confirmed that all smash characters will get an amiibo release? I was waiting for a palutena/zss/geeninja release, since they are the ones I play most, but given how wonky everything is I might jump on something else meanwhile.

EU gaffer here, I read we don't have store-exclusive amiibos, is it true? I believe GAME has taken over gamestop here (Spain), and we don't have best buy either, which makes things worse.
 
I've been playing a lot of Marth and Lucina lately and for a few innocent seconds thought it'd be cool to have a Marth to level up and fight against...

Then I came to my senses. I hope Lucina is a little more easily acquired whenever she is released compared to the shit show that was Marth's availability.

I don't really follow FE (Awakening was my first) but I'm guessing the answer is tied to who's more popular. They'll probably have more amiibos. So if Marth is, I'd expect at least the same shit show as him for Lucina, hopefully not worse/Nintendo came to their senses and are releasing more of everyone in general.

Thanks for the tips. I assume Rosalina will be available outside of the U.S. at some point, right? With the nightmare that has been her preorder availability I wonder if it would be easier to just wait and import her. :T
 
Flying today and I'm carrying all the amiibos I got over holiday in one of those recyclable cloth bags with their plastic cases intact to prevent damage. Amiibos are some serious business.

That's what many of us did. I do think that if you live by a Target it will be a lot cheaper and easier even to just go to the store when it releases. But not all of us live close to a Target or can get there early in the morning.

If you go to the Amazon where Mario is from, you can preorder it right now. About $27 for one or $42 for two. Personally I went with two, I'll probably sell the other one to get back some of that importing cost.

I'm assuming the original production run of Rosalina is done and the quantity made would be comparable to lucario or meta knight and that Target just doesn't want to deal with any delay or timing issues (port strikes) so they're not playing the preorder game. May be from a logistics standpoint they're not set up to use preorders to determine allocation as well as a place like GameStop

I need more Amiibo news, I'm thirsting. Collection is complete. Still comtemplating opening my damaged box Pit to train him. My other 4 opened Amiibos are doing very well. I wish you could use the Amiibo's online.

Might be that fact that some EU countries don't have BB or the others, but not having store exclusives is awesome.

Is there any kind of region-lock on these amiibos? What happens when you connect these amiibos with a game/system, is ther some registration or can I use for example a second hand Link amiibo to unlock certain games-content?
 
... I'm not the only one who wants to know what character is in wave 4, right? I know 3 isn't out yet but I really want to know if wave 4 will have some of the one I really want(Jr, greninja, duck hunt, ganon, ness, and a few others)

I'm kind of fearful of posting this only because I'd have to assume scalpers will be rushing out, but...

Meta Knight appears in this week's Best Buy ad, specifically mentioning Preorders, so it looks like you should be able to go preorder him at the stores.

The exclusives are going to be a pain in the ass to get. No restock in site for MK and I don't see orders opening up for Shulk again before release. I've been stalking the TRU Canada site for Lucario preorders to go live when I can. I KNOW I'll be fighting dudes for Rosilina when Target stocks her. I REALLY hope this retailer exclusivity nonsense doesn't continue for the Amiibo brand going forward.

Can't believe Nintendo is screwing over original 3ds owners like this. I love playing as shulk and really wanted to play his game without paying $100+. I mean is this NEW 3ds technically their next official handheld or just an upgrade to the 3ds? If it's the former than Nintendo is the absolute worst at naming their hardware😑
 
Another thing you can do if GameStop does not get your preorder in, you can put up a fuss and they will send one to that store for you from the warehouse.

It's just an upgrade. More processor power, C stick, new shoulder buttons, better 3D, and the regular 3DS's will be a little bit larger.

N3DS has the specs to run the game while older models don't. Either upgrade or don't. I can't see this NOT BEING a Gamestop/EB Games exclusive for North America. My only hope is that there won't be a limited edition N3DS bundled with the game. I know I'll be a sucker and order it even if it breaks my wallet.
 
For those of you who ordered your Pit figures from Amazon that I posted about earlier in the week, mine just shipped.
 
The store tracker on Target is fucked. It says there is a Fox in stock at the store right by my house, but when I called, they said it hasnt updated and they dont have it.

Do I go up there to confirm? Or take the guys word for it?
 
Super surprised that a 7:30am Walmart visit netted me a Fox. It must have been a return/exchange as the top flap has a crease, but otherwise its in very good shape. Still, I will be on the lookout for a Fox in mint condition.

Same happened with my GameStop a while back, website said they had diddy and my bro was gonna go get himself 1 but I told him to call first and make sure its actually there cause they might've sold it today or something. He calls and they tell him they sold the last one like 3 days ago.

See, I think when something is just an upgrade it shouldn't have its own library of games that the old system can't play. Can you imagine the rage if Sony had released a "PS3.5" and said you can only play the new kingdom hearts on this system, not the old PS3...oh, and this isn't our "official" new console so expect to buy our actual NEW console in a year or two.
sorry, I'm probably just upset because I bought a 3dsXL right before the announcement of the NEW 3ds

There are multiple different scenarios that could cause them to not find it.

Well Nintendo released the expansion pack for the 64 in order to play Donkey Kong and Perfect Dark. I don't remember that getting alot of flack but then again I was 10 at the time lol.

Does it say in stock or limited stock? limited stock is always a hit/miss.

Also, people tend to hide things in stores.

It's going to continue due to the limited spacing they give to amiibo. I have rarely ever seen another box come into Best Buy. I think we may have gotten 2 yoshis and 2 kirbys after the initial release. We got 8 Luigis and they were gone the same day.

preordering should be the first option. Even if stores cancel them, it'll show demand and Nintendo can ramp up production to match.

Just showing up to stores and sighing at the lack of stock really wont do much.
