Amiibo Thread 5 | Because we didn't preorder thread 4

It seems like we go in circles. People doubt an amiibo will be hard to find. It then is. The next amiibo comes out. People conveniently forget the many wrong predictions. Rinse and repeat.

Gold Mario will be bought up so quickly by scalpers it will make your head spin. There likely won't be a second supply either.

It will probably end up being like Rosalina. At first it seems like there's a lot because stores will get enough for many waiting in lines but then once they are gone, they are gone.

THIS.
It's nice that people are keeping an optimistic look about it though.
But I'm a realist. Ain't nobody got time for hope.

wal mart doesnt care about a $13 product though, or amiibos in general

they rather make their money with food, clothing and high end stuff, not waste their time

i will say that wal mart would be the only company to flood a shelf, more than gamestop, target or best buy

I think a lot of it is fueled by the desire to see scalpers get screwed over. Ignoring the fact that that wouldn't happen anyway due to store returns and a high demand of amiibo in general that at worst they break even. Not that I blame people for hoping that honestly.

I remember sitting in my car at Target the day Rosalina came out and reading this thread with people celebrating that Rosalina was common and that scalpers were badly screwed. I couldn't help but shake my head and have a little laugh the next day when rumors started circulating it was discontinued.

Something I would advise fellow amiibo-gaffers of, definitely do not underestimate Toys R Us. While yeah their Lucario's were pretty much gone immedately, the 2 that I've visited personally have a ton of stock of most other Wave 1 and 2 amiibos that have been released so far, except for the really rare ones like WFT and Villager. The one I visited yesterday had like 4 Foxes for instance. I debated getting a few for trade for Captain Falcon or Pit or something if anyone is interested.

I'm curious. With how many stores people are saying Wal Mart has, I'm wondering just how many pre order units were claimed during those few waves that have already been posted.
5,000 or more?
Because if so, that's another reason to believe there won't be many to purchase at launch.
The big question everyone has on their mind is how well they'll keep it stocked of course.
Either way, I'm glad I won't be one of the people standing in line on launch day.
Not because I want to wait in the cold, but more so because it's Wal Mart lol

Finally :

Shulk, Sonic and Rockman should arrive next week

Have you still seen Little Macs at TRU?

So my guess is that Wave 4 will go up for pre-order in about 2 weeks. Very close to the release of the Super Mario set. Since the toy ratings are up, it only took what was it, 2 weeks for Gold Mario to show up since the reveal of its ratings. But it is worrisome that only half the set are rated so far...

Plz no more exclusives.... Well, except for the inevitable Amazon Silver Mario :/

Dont Nintendo and Amazon have bad blood with each other? lol to be honest i wouldnt be surprised if at this point he becomes Nintendo World or Fry's exclusive.

I've been hearing this from a lot of people.
Is he really confirmed an Amazon exclusive or is that just a thing we're saying now?

Well, it's the only other (thriving) big box retailer that could possibly have it.

Yes and no. I mean, Amiibos have been selling on Amazon as a first-party purchase just fine.

I don't think making amiibo exclusive to an online retailer really meshes with Nintendo's vision for the product

They haven't exactly realized that vision due to how fast they're selling out, but these things are meant to go on store shelves

Got a text from Gamestop saying my order would be in store Wednesday, just called them now and they haven't gotten any under my name but said more are on the way. I preordered them on Christmas. Sonic and Megaman.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

So far they seem to be exclusive to retailers who have a huge space all over the country. I don't see why that would change now.

I thought Nintendo said they would be steadily restocking the Super Mario ones. I wonder if scalpers are now trying to create scarcity for even the common amiibos.

It's hard to tell. Either scalpers really are stocking up, or Nintendo is still not confident in their multi-million selling product :/

...last I heard the boats are starting to run again on the US coast I believe, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue, right? (I'm still wondering if any of those even had Amiibos on board to begin with, and if still like Pit and Little Mac will random show up in stores again due to it).

after grabbing a Sonic out in the wild last night I went on the hunt again today.

got a MegaMan at BB. there was a lady in front of me on line, probably 50 years old, buying one as well. I guess her son's making her go on the goose chase? ha

oh, and also I stopped at Target and ended up picking up a Yoshi. it rang up at $9.99. heads up

A few like yoshi, peach etc are getting a price reduction to make room for other amiibo . The reduced price was initiated by nintendo.

I can dig it. I still haven't picked up a Mario, Peach, or Pikachu yet because I figured they'd never not be on the shelves.
I also thought the same thing about Fox :\
+ I honestly have seen barely any Yoshis around recently. stopped at five stores today and only one place had em.

edit:
two months ago I thought 'maybe I'll buy one or two of them',
and now

f'in Nintendo

So glad that I got what I wanted outta Wave 3! Picked up my Meguman and DeDeDe yesterday, as well as Ike.

Why are there still no wave 4 preorders?! I haven't been following super close lately since I've been really busy, but I'm so worried that I'm gonna completely miss out on Ness since I'm not constantly able to be checking amazon or gamestop for when the preorders go up.

It's looking as if Gold Mario will be worth even more than Villager.
Selling for $100 and not even out yet.
As someone said before, there may be some in store at launch, but probably no more after that.

Glad I snatched one now. Villager is no longer just a dream!

Shulk was going for $80 for a while, even when pre-orders were open in-stores. Wouldn't use prices as a guideline just yet.

Characters like peach and Mario likely will always be on shelves, Nintendo is just going to cycle in the new poses from the Super Mario line.

There are only 2 stores in my city that still have them. They apparently keep them in the back now because they had to print a list for me.

Ah so they are doing that now.

I only go to GS now for pre-orders and to chat with the crew at my local one. Nothing else I really want last gen used, but my local one does still have boxed DS games out, so I always manage to take a peek at those. (I really am surprised that those got "discontinued" as boxed goods at GS so fast).

My casual gaming friend just got a Captain Falcon off of EBay, I'm pretty jealous. I refuse to pay the inflated prices though.
