edit: the shipping estimation from tenso seems pretty high for one amiibo. anyone have any experience? what's worked best for you in the past?

Limit 1 per person so the odds of someone being able to get you one is going to be slim unless someone lives in a town with a Best Buy that literally gives no fucks about amiibo.

I'll get there like...10:30. Maybe earlier if I'm awake. Maybe later if I don't wake up. I've been surprisingly lucky, and I have no qualms about missing Dark Pit. I'm pretty sure most people around here aren't getting all of them, and there's not a huge following for him compared to a character like Ness.
And hell, had I actually gone to GameStop instead of going to the grocery store I would have had Ness after waiting 5 minutes for it to open.

Yeah unfortunately, individual items tend to cost a lot when shipped alone, so I recommend buying a few thing and have them package them together and ship in one. The additional items only add about $3-4.

To be fair, I am making the assumption that every body I see is buying one. But I'm sure there are a least a few instances of parent and child here, at least on my line.
What's fun is that I work at gamestop, and I see a bunch of my regulars here too, so it's cool to hang out with them outside the work setting

.- from older waves, what's still hard to come by? are Little Mac and Rosalina still unicorns? what amiibos are still retaining scalping prices inspite of japanese import stores making prices more accesible?

I never found out how many my stores have, I don't work too far from a best buy, but I just don't know if it is worth driving the 15 minutes to the store just to find out they have 80 people in line.
I want to point out that these people are your competition, and that any friendly idle chatter is just to lower your defenses and competitive spirit. No mercy, only Amiibo.
