Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

Freezepop is in!? PLEASE MAKE IT! D:

Meh. Freezepop is more or less dead to me because Kasson Crooker (the guy behind Symbion Project and a whole bunch of other "alias" titles in the original Amplitude) left. He was THE synthpop behind Freezepop. Ever since they started phasing out the Yamaha QY70, they've basically just become a poor copy of 80's pop. Future Future Future Perfect was, in my opinion, one of their weakest albums due to the lack of QY70 synth. Imaginary Friends is just... depressingly bland.

Unless they reunite with Crooker for some original tracks - a possibility but I'm not holding my breath - I'm not really all that excited about Freezepop's involvement.

We went over this on the last page, but don't expect Sony to swoop in and save the kickstarter, as basically any way they could feasible do it would constitute fraud under Kickstarter's TOS.

Sony could obviously swoop in and save the project if the kickstarter is unsuccessful, fronting all the money.

Not sure how it would constitute fraud since Harmonix is not affiliated with Sony in any way,

Since I don't usually do kickstarter, what happens when they fail to achieve the goal?
I mean, what happens with the pledged money?

Since this can't possibly happen, the only logical thing to do is raise my pledge more than I'd have paid normally as it's unlikely I'll get charged

Raised from $20 -> $70

Honestly, assuming this doesn't reach its goal, I really wonder if Microsoft will step in and have Harmonix make the game (under a new name) for them. I don't know why Sony won't fund this, I guess because the company is doing so badly money-wise, but this would be a very small investment for Microsoft, which they'd be able to make back pretty easily, and they'd have one more exclusive from a quality developer. Could be a bit of an olive branch for the disKinection as well.

It actually never charges you in the first place. You just don't get charged.

Yep. That's why it doesn't make sense to not donate to a KS project "because it's not gonna get funded". If you like the project and are fine with the asking price, just do it.

inb4 someone makes a $10+K pledge for the lulz and find out later it does get funded lol.

Yes, the company that didn't even bother to warn them that Kinect was being removed from the box before announcing it will fund a Kickstarter that has failed in your scenario.

Uh huh.

I don't think this would count as an olive branch -- this is a tiny vanity project, Harmonix is/was all-in on Kinect.

Would you mind linking to this part of the TOS?

It's not explicitly outlined in their TOS (outside the usual "we reserve the right to nuke your account for any reason"). But it's come up in the past with claims of astroturffing.

Not sure how it would constitute fraud since Harmonix is not affiliated with Sony in any way,

Sony could only give a maximum of 10,000.00 before it would need to create an additional account to give another 10,000.00. Creating additional accounts to push a kickstarter over the edge is astroturffing.

Sony being independent of the kickstarter is a moot point as they have a lot to gain from its success and it wouldn't require much of a jump to assume collusion.

Since I don't usually do kickstarter, what happens when they fail to achieve the goal?

Unlike some Indiegogo campaigns, Kickstarter is all or nothing. If they don't get funding, no money is withdrawn from your account and Harmonix receives absolutely no money.

Fun fact: they originally pitched Frequency to Microsoft and didn't get them to bite. How Sony picked that up PLUS a sequel is a mystery to me, but I thank them for it.

There must be KS projects where this has happened. Must suck for developers if their KS was very close to succeeding and then in the last hour a couple of tricksters cancel their pledges.

There was a nice boost. Nearing 50% now

Crossposting and elaborating this from the other thread:
I can see this definitely working with more artist support and maybe an extended deadline. Artist support is something I (and others) expected from the start tbh. Especially with electronic and independent music being at new high in popularity. Those indie artists are nice and I hope to see more but they should get atleast one big artist to join in or tweet it. Since they are so inclined to keep this a Sony exclusive why not get some big artists under Sony Music or something

You can't cancel a pledge if it would drop the project below the funding goal, if I'm not mistaken.

You might want to refrain from repeatedly saying that it is then.

Fair enough. Sony injecting whatever is left is something people should continue to think is going to happen.

Now I sort of want it to happen, as the reaction from the Kickstarter community would be amazing.

The problem is that those big artists cost a lot of money, which is not a part of their proposed budget. Using artists under Sony Music isn't going to make it free.

There are a number of reasons why Sony saving the campaign at the end isn't going to happen. You don't need to make up stuff about the TOS to argue the point.

Let's say Sony decided to do it, for whatever misguided reason.

Do you think Kickstarter would allow Sony to put the remaining funds in it because it doesn't explicitly forbid it in the TOS? How would they explain why they wouldn't let it happen?

It's an oversimplification of broad language they use in their TOS on my part. And one they've addressed before when other kickstarters were accused of using fake accounts to reach their goals.

But I accept your point. I'll refrain from saying TOS.

Obviously, every Kickstarter campaign is different. But the one that comes to mind when I think of similar campaigns is the one for Republique two years ago. Some of the same aspects are there: no PC version (until very late), big name developer, perception of a budget that was too high, heavy media support (though perhaps less so for Amplitude, at least in the sense of game writers and podcasts outright begging for support).

The final uplift starts with three days to go. The third day before the end of the campaign sees 5x the daily average before the uplift, second day sees 8.5x, and the last day is almost 12x. There's one crucial difference: Republique eventually announced a PC version. That's not going to happen here. But they did make a similar big announcement to Amplitude's artists announcement (Jennifer Hale and David Hayter coming on as voice actors), which I think is where the $50k spike just over a week from the end of the campaign happens.

Something like that might be happening to Amplitude now, with today's take already over $30k. The real question is whether Harmonix can maintain momentum through the final four days.

Good point.

Announcing a Vita version (and not as a stretch goal) is such a no brainer, I don't know what the holdup is.

This thing hardly moved since the artist announcements today. It only got a good bump because someone donated $7500...

I don't get why they haven't announced that Vita goal too

Actaully kicktraq says it got 33k today, but I haven't seen it move much in the past couple hours besides that $7500

There is always a final push in the last few days so this will definitely make it. Some people also wait until the last minute to see how it goes.

Aside from the first sentence being kinda false (this is almost certainly going to be the highest funding day since Day 1), I don't get the need to downplay a $7500 bump. Whether it came from 1000 people or one person, it's still $7500 closer.

It actually does matter. 1000 people is a sign of increased attention & momentum; 1 person is a blip.

Hnng, this is gonna be a horribly close call, but it totally would be a project I'd have fun collaborating on. Ughh I can't watch this.

I want to up my pledge past $200 but all those rewards kinda suck if you don't give a shit about traveling to PAX, or have a music career.
