No he isn't. That initial push was vital for getting this KickStarter some coverage and word of mouth.

This stream is fantastic.
I'll buy it for $20 if/when it comes out, because it's not the money that's the issue. I'm not going to support the Kickstarter for that amount though because I don't agree with the way it's handled, is all.
I suppose. But had they not done that I know I'd have been in for this KS at a higher tier than $20 anyways. But just that option being there steers me away. *shrugs*
I know this has been said before, but going for the $20 is essentially pre-ordering the game. Does that help?
Sounds like you just don't want the game because you could have gotten it for cheaper.
Had they not done that and everyone got it at $15 they would have over 20k less than they have right now. Were you going to donate 20k?
Nope. I just can't support a model where arbitrarily some users are able to get the game for $15 based on happening to be on the internet at the right time. So instead of backing, I will simply end up with the game whenever it hits that pricepoint. Whereas if it was available to all at either the $15 or $20 point, then I'd likely be in for at least the early access tier.
I'm pretty far from the only person who simply isn't donating because of it. Take a look on CAG or many other forums, it's not uncommon for people to feel this way. GAF is unique in just liking to throw money at things.

That $15 and 35$ tiers are to spark the interest and hype for those people who are still thinking about whether to back up or not. With these tiers it will keep the momentum and work of mouth otherwise it won't get this kind of support. The people who want this game don't think about the tiers and they just go with tier they feel can afford and only those people who are not really interested or just want to go with hype for cheap tiers like 15$ or 35$ will complain.
This is fair and no judgment. Of course, we'd love the support so we could make the game, but I can understand your point.
But how is that different than a sale that you missed? If there's something you wanted at $20 and planned to buy, but then it dropped to $15 and (for sake of argument) you were stranded on a cruise ship during that price drop, when you returned, would you simply not purchase the product at that point because of the "arbitrary" price drop?

GAF does not equal everyone. Lots of people are going to look at it the same way I and others in this thread do.
Over 1/4 of the money they've generated came from the tiers you claim are for people who are "not really interested", lower tiers are a kickstarters bread and butter.
Generally yes. I will simply wait for the sale to show back up, on a long enough timeline it always does and I have plenty to play, hell there's around 500 of my songs in Rock Band I have yet to try in Blitz so I can do that while I wait. I did this with Persona 4 Golden on Vita most recently when I missed a sale and waited 3 months or so for it to hit that price again.
But in this case it comes down to principle of not liking that part of the model, it isn't about the $$ themselves whatsoever.
That's exactly why I don't use KS for gaming. No pre-ordering, never compromise.
Still, sending Harmonix all the good energy I can to get this game funded. Seriously a great bunch of guys and girls over there.
I can't believe there are people complaining about the point of the $15 tier. But this is GAF, so maybe I can believe it. You'd think this thread is cheapassgamer.

Just read through the thread, we've gone through basically every concern one can possibly have with a Kickstarter. It's... interesting.
There's no fighting in, people who are complaining about $5 were likely not going to back it anyways.

I find it ridiculously...stupid..to argue about missing out on $5 when that means the game might not get made because you have a problem with their method of crowd-funding. It's immature.
Completely wrong. Some people stick to their principles. Had their been only one either $15 or $20 tier, I'd be in for at least $40 and so would many others.
Having principles is immature? Alright then.

I'm not going to shit up the thread any longer but the reality is, why the fuck does it matter that there is an early supporter reward, if you were going to back $40. Principles do not abstain from logic.
Can I interrupt this discussion about principles and tiers to mention that this twitch stream is pretty great?

IMO this whole crying over the tiers is a bit ridiculous. When I back a Kickstarter I take 2 things into consideration:
1. Does the product deserve my money?
2. Do the people making the product deserve my money?
This is a remake/update of a game I loved a decade ago. The group at Harmonix seem like a genuinely great team of people that care about this property. As such, I trust them to do what they need to with regards to tiers/pricing/rewards etc in order to fund this, I'm sure it is no easy task.
No way this gets funded. Not a fucking chance
Number of relevant console IPs that have been tried to be revived through Kickstarter: 0.
775k for a PS exclusive music SHMUP?
Good luck.
it passed 150K. That prediction site says the chance of success is 1% now :\
So shit this isn't gonna happen.
I guess now we know why no publishers wanted to fund this.
4 days to go, still not even half funded. Dead as dead can be![]()
Sony owns the IP.
Don't expect a PC version.
At this rate don't expect a PS3 or PS4 version either.
Yep!
This has a 0% chance of happening.
Game over.
Somehow I didn't notice this part of your post. Wow. Alrighty then.
So clearly you want this game, I think it is safe to assume that based on this post. But you won't support it because you didn't get a chance to save $5, even though you would have spent $40?
Do you not buy a whole gallon of milk because the half gallon is not on sale anymore and that's not fair to people who only wanted a half gallon?
I can't even.
Certain arbitrary principles are absolutely a sign of immaturity, yes.

Nothing arbitrary about it. I back zero kickstarters who use this method. I disagree with it and won't support those who use it.
It's just weird to be so stubborn about something that in this case doesn't make sense. You would back it for $40 for early access, but you won't because there was a limited/early bird tier for $15 (that you wouldn't have backed anyway) and a regular tier for $20 (that you wouldn't have backed anyway).
What's wrong with early adopters getting rewards anyway? It's pretty common. Are you not going to buy a 3DS until the Ambassador games are available and free to everyone? Do only pay matinee prices for movie tickets? Do you refuse to go to a concert to see a famous band because you could have seen them for free back in the day when they played in a garage or local bar?
I'm secretly hoping that this game costs more than $20 when it releases to non-KickStarter users.
Well... so much for secretly![]()
Hoping that Shuhei swoops in at the last minute and donates 100k

Hah, nah, it's a different thing. Black Friday doesn't just turn up completely unannounced, offering people who happen to be there a discount that no one else is entitled to.
I dunno, I don't think I'm being that weird for thinking it's a bit of a crap way to treat fans of the franchise. I can see why they did it, but I won't ever like it.

This, in particular, is smile inducing:
It's $5.
None of these examples make sense. The ambassador games were available to everyone who bought the 3DS before a certain date. Matinee tickets are also available to anyone. The band one seems so out of place I don't even know how to approach it.
No issue for me. I'll wait till it drops to the price I'm now willing to pay. Which is $15.

Trips to the supermarket to you must be very, VERY stressful.
I hope it never drops to that point for you.

Stop arguing, you're making me sad.![]()
Why would trips to the supermarket be stressful? Stores put out ads beforehand with advertised prices.
