I don't think they're interested in releasing a bare bones version of the game that doesn't match their vision. I certainly wouldn't be interested in buying such a thing. Either make the complete game or don't, but I don't want to see them half-ass a product when they have a track record for making excellent games.
Seeing as this is a digital only game, there's plenty of opportunity for post launch updates if the fanbase shows up. They're dreaming of making this an 11 game, but setting the baseline at a 9 game. I'm saying there's still room to make it an 8 or even a 7 - with room to grow either via stretch goals, DLC or post launch updates.
I wish we lived in a world where there were 35,000+ people willing to back this on Kickstarter. Perhaps we do - it's not over yet. But I've made myself pretty clear in that I believe they've priced this thing too high. I'm done being old man yelling at cloud.
