Analysis: Xbox 360 has won the console wars!

Found this over on Game Girl Advance:

Xbox 360 does not compete with Sony or Nintendo. It is not a gaming console. It is a powerful device to deliver content online and over WiFi. Microsoft's real competition is Apple, Yahoo, and Google. Apple's movie-download service. Yahoo's retail channels. Google's - well, everything. Heck, throw Comcast and TiVo in there for good measure. The games are merely a means to an end - an "instant-on revenue to support an exponential expansion into the livingroom," as Eric put it over an IM chat we had.

What next, GameCube doesn't compete with PlayStation 2 or Xbox? :lol

We should put this up there with the following future scenario:

We've reached 10 million units first! The console wars are over!

We're at 9,870,000 PlayStation 3's sold and our sales have doubled 360 for the past 3 months!

Revolution is kicking ass and taking names! We are at 9,850,000 units sold and our sales have been consistently superior to the 360 for the past 2 months!

Ugh.

Googleing is a unique form of entertainment currently unrivaled. It would be quite a feat for X360 to rival it.

Revolution does not compete with Sony or Microsoft. It is not a gaming console. It is a powerful device to deliver content online and over wifi. Nintendo's real competition is Six Flags Great Adventure, Dorney Park and Disney Land. Busch Gardens Hydra rollercoaster. Hell, throw in childrens playgrounds and baseball fields for good measure. The games are merely a means to an end - an "instant-on revenue to support an exponential expansion into every aspect of entertainment reality," as Reggie Fils-Aime put it over an IM chat we had.

I like how video gaming, to companies like Microsoft and Sony, is becoming merely "part of the package" with these future consoles...

This is why I love Nintendo and their their insistence on sticking to their guns and staying a "video game company."

With a new console that might play DVD movies.. (I still doubt it though)

I think we are on something here who wrote that piece ??

Jane !

Jane who ?

Jane Pinckard (see the bottom of the Game Girl Advance page)

and who is Jane Pinckard ?

It's her

With Nintendo focusing more on games and Microsoft pushing for an all-in-one entertainment system, Sony is left in a tough position to attract consumers, said Jane Pinckard, editor at GamePro magazine.

"They have to decide if they want to compete on the level of the Xbox, or take a more Nintendo path," she said. "They're really caught in between. They do all these things yet they haven't been able to really position themselves in the broader electronics marketplace as Microsoft has."
