Analyst on Wii U: "Competitive position has deteriorated", "No Activision support".

Wait... Has Konami supported Wii and DS in a relevant way? I'd say no.

Well their DS support was significant, although their 3 Castlevania games and Contra 4 would be the most notable. Suikoden was there as well, along with most other of their major franchises. The Wii not as much, at least stuff that people would care about, although they have tons of titles on the VC. 3DS is already being supported with Beyond the Labyrinth and Love Plus.

Interesting.......

Disappointed that Nintendo are dropping the ball for 3rd parties again after promising to work with them more.

They actually have gone out of their way for third parties providing free middleware and listening to what third parties want when it comes to hardware, etc...

I wouldn't put much stock in something(no Activision support) that makes absolutely no sense.

Not sure about Konami...

Properly has something to do with the WiiU having no hard drive and not being able to sell CoD map packs.

It has on-board flash memory and it's going to support external hard drives. Of all the things that could keep the game off the Wii U, this is by far the least relevant detail.

I can't wait for Iwata to come out on stage... AGAIN... with John Ricitello at this years E3 and announce that EA and Nintendo have partnered together for the Nintendo network.

I have seen the future, EA is what's going to ruin Nintendo.

Kind of hoping this is true, if only to get Nintendo in panic mode and make the console worth buying for even non Nintendo fans.

Seems like the Wii U will be another Nintendo Console that people buy just to play Nintendo games.

How do you figure they dropped the ball already? Months before it's even out and without us knowing anything at all?

The only negative things we heard are from anonymous developers, which will most likely be jaded people with a grudge against Nintendo (the remark about Mario not needing physics clearly tells you that).

If the situation is dire again with 3rd party games on the WiiU it's probably the last console you need to endure that with anyway. I seriously doubt that after the next bunch we will even have seperate consoles (hope not anyway).

OK so how about the first point?

Because it has been speculated a bunch since Ricitello came out on stage with Nintendo at the last e3 that EA may have a huge hand in helping Nintendo with the online.

If EA is handling Nintendos online there would be a huge reason for Activision not to support the WiiU.

skyfall already leaked as being developed for wiiu

Analysts did a great job of predicting what would happen with the Wii, so clearly they'll do a great job of predicting what the Wii U will do.

Wait, some actually believe that "No Activision Support" part!?

They ported COD on Wii AND DS and you think they won't on Wii U? Seriously?

Just because they won't (at this point) doesn't mean they shouldn't. Investors and speculators can do a whole lot of harm to a company's stock.

A company which is totally and singly directed towards the whims of the investors is not a successful company.

If Henry Ford had asked the public what they wanted, they'd have asked for a faster horse and cart.

And if Ford continued to ignore the demands of the public, seeing his company's value collapse, he wouldn't be successful either.

It will probably never happen considering how secretive Nintendo is, but I'd love to get a book on this console's development somewhere in the future, recounting internal and third party stories, following the rumours, and delving into how many redesigns this thing actually had.

At this point the whole competitors paying for spreading false information crazyness is not as far fetched as i thought....i mean really?

Most you will see is you can use your origin account like the valve psn thing. Plus Valve would join that club.

To be fair, what's going to get mass market people to buy the Wii U? The people who want a tablet already have one and so that leaves hardcore gamers. Nintendo fans will buy it and people who want Mario and the like, but why would anyone buy a third party game on the Wii U if the graphics are worse than the xbox and ps3? Personally, when I have all three new systems I will only buy exclusives for the Wii U.

Can that alone be profitable for Nintendo? I'm not really sure.

Gibson assigned a target price of ¥10,000 and noted that "if Nintendo went iOS/Android with games we think the stock could be worth ¥20,000+, but in our view that's not going to happen."

Intriguing!

I really doubt that Nintendo gives EA free hands, so to speak. Every decition that EA makes, if any, must be approved by Nintendo first. I cant really think that it is being any different at least.

As I said above, the four screen content strategy is Mobile, Tablet, PC, and TV.
Can you use iOS apps/games on all of these devices? The qoute in the OP is referring to iOS stuff being shared on different platforms:

"and with a better infrastructure we think iOS will be able to deliver a single game experience across four screens"

Am I the only one who finds the whole "I hope something bad happens so that Nintendo gets into panic mode" pretty annoying ? What kind of logic is that ? Why don't you just wish that they get 3rd party support or deliver a product you like ?

I hope it fails at the beginning, I want free Ambassador Gamecube games.

Thats lovely and all, but the analysts are even coming to terms with the realization that it isnt going to happen. He even says as much in this very article. Its nice to regurgitate that you think it should of course, I suppose... But that roads a little worn with the whole 3DS is gonna die thing dont you think?

Just kicking that old spiel down the roads getting a little old.

I love the use of the word collapse too. Keep on lightly implying that doom bro. Since the 1800's.

As far as I can see, the public has been demanding Pokemon and Mario on handhelds, and Nintendo has been supplying with great success.

The public has also been eating up smartphones and tablets as though they've been in the desert for 40 days without food. Many people have spent money on those devices in stead of handhelds. That is a loss for Nintendo. It's going to be interesting to see how successful Nintendo is with their hardware in a few years as the public becomes more accustomed with all purpose devices and as said devices increase in power and tech.

What was the original title? Just curious.

No Call of Duty on Wii U? Sounds like a plus to me. XD

Any analyst who thinks Activision won't be putting games out on any active console in our space-time continuum needs to be out of a fucking job. And not in the funny, lol Michael Pachter way either. This guy needs to go far, far away.

I think you are forgetting that Nintendo's stock is not looking healthy. Their investors are getting very agitated and are losing faith in the company. Pretty much all market analysts have a negative outlook on Nintendo at the moment and their words most definitely affect Nintendo as a company. The way that the stock is heading shows that Nintendo has failed to convince investors that it's plan for the future is sound which indicates that there may be more problems that we as the public have not even heard about yet.

Also the 3ds is not a success, far from it. It showed Nintendo's lack of awareness of its competitors during the launch and since launch sales have been middling compared to most peoples predictions.

u know what,,this REALLY a good publicity for WiiU !! now all the eyes will be on WiiU this E3 !! ,,,,the next thing we need is Rueters trolololing on the stock prices and linking Nintendo to Rim and how Apple will eat them alive and we might have the biggest blow out for a system in years !!

considering that nintendo has the best selling consoles and handhelds, maybe we should be asking for.... well pretty much every other developer to go to ios and for sony and microsoft to get out of the hardware market for greener pastures in ios land. I always feel like people expect nintendo to go the ios first even though they're doing the best and have the most to loose.

So Nintendo has this powerful competitor... and you're suggesting that they chuck the biggest assets they have at them in hope of survival?

No. Nintendo would not even remotely remain as profitable on iOS, and short of iOS being the latest hot thing in the eyes of investors, there is no good reason to enter that field.

Which is why I have said to find a way to offer their IP's in some form to iOS while keeping the full version on their own hardware. Give iOS folks an opportunity to experience the licenses and games and do so in a way that would create interest to experience the full version on Nintendo's hardware.

No Activision support? That is certainly out of left field considering they found success on both the Wii and DS.

They are putting COD on Vita for heaven's sake!

Or they simply become accustomed to having some form of Nintendo experience without investing in their hardware, and refuse to do so any more.

Attempting to advertise competing services and hardware on iOS is a tactic doomed to failure.

dude, u must have blisters on your hands from all those straws...

This is absurd on nearly all levels:

Structural problems? Nintendo is extremely agile (masterful 3DS save) and has some if not the highest income per employee.

He puts a lot of stock into internet rumors. Maybe he knows something, more likely he reads Kotaku.

iOS/Android would be better? This is a Japanese analyst FFS. Sale-Age is making Pac-charts and he thinks they need to pack up and go home?

Activision not supporting Wii U? They support everything. Hell even if they didn't how dependent is Nintendo on Activision? Konami?

The market size for handhelds has shrunk considerably. Microsoft has kinect and the hardcore. Sony has the strong hardware and the hardcore as well. Nintendo did well with the wii and ds mostly due to the same market that is flocking to the iOS ecosystem en mass. The 3ds really showed this. It makes sense for them to tap into the iOS market first if any of the big 3 were to do it...
