yeah, i'm gonna wait for other people to review that mod first...

There seems to be another method another person is trying in the thread to add a symlink between urandom to random. Might try that too. A response from the developer from the OP in the XDA thread (from Reddit)

Seeder author here.

The reason I didn't rm /dev/random && mknod /dev/random c 1 9 (or symlink as you suggested) was because, at least in theory, stirring lower-entropy data into /dev/random (only when needed) should result in higher quality random data.

That is, most of the time, /dev/random has sufficient high-quality random data to pull from. It's only when we run out that it's a problem, and only then is large amounts of lower-quality data pulled in.

Reading directly from /dev/urandom is probably safe, cryptographically, even for keygen. It's unlikely anyone would ever use that as an attack vector; probably easier to attack the OS directly, right? But, rngd was the approach I took for Seeder, and it works for me. :)

Can someone clear up some confusion for me? I've been looking to get a smartphone, and while I'm eternaly waiting for Nexus4 to become avaiable, I thought of getting a budget phone.
I can get a Ace Plus for 130 euros, and some people are claiming I can run JB on it, is it true? Where/how can I do it?

seems like an odd issue and the guy doesn't explain how he has profiled it to find this out. i'd be really interested to know how he did that if google themselves couldnt figure this out.

its also weird that it could speed up things that shouldn't be involving random number generation, like going back to the home screen.

hopefully if its a real thing then google will do some work to make the OS only use crypto random numbers when it actually needs them.

If you want to learn (rooting, flashing), don't get an odd niche phone, get a used popular phone. For example, an used HTC Sensation, Galaxy S 1, 2 is good starter learner phone.

If it's such a simple solution, why didn't Google already do it? There must be issues somewhere.

Thanks for this. I have a Pioneer AVIC D3 in my car. It's okay but clearly outdated. I think it would be really awesome to have Android in my car. I'll look into this further. Keep posting!

Honestly it seems like the way to go. What phone do you use? 90% of the people on that forum are rocking GS3's. I would love to use it wirelessly, but I can't be bothered to stick with a stock samsung ROM, so I will use the wired method, hopefully i can route the cable neatly.

Nova is #Winning. no more clipping on those dock icons in landscape like Apex.

I had just switched to Nova from Apex a month ago, because Apex was lagging like a motherfucker. Never turning back.

not sure how this is gonna fly having hardware that is starting to get stale, they should have led with Tegra 4. that would've done better to ensure success
finally some development, but too bad it takes forever to start up it looks like and lack of rear view camera input is sort of deal breaker for me. hopefully app2radio 3 will be much more polished.

OTOH, if anyone want to use their existing head unit can consider customGadz mod. hope to order mine soon...
was customGadz the one from Australia? It just seemed so obscure and intrusive...i dunno. I really do hope the appradio 3 has better hardware and not just a software update. this kind of idea needs pioneers attention the way mobile is taking over the world, don't get left behind all you car audio head unit manufacturers

just wait for the Nexus 4. You didn't rough it this long with a shitty phone just to spend a couple more years with another shitty phone.

Another TV Android solution, this time from Archos, supposedly available in February for $130:

Is a galaxy ace plus a niche phone?

It just seems whenever I try to find a nicer phone I always go "well the nexus 4 is just 100 more quids"

Please help me with my bad english
Anyone read about this? It apparently fixes '90%' of lag on Android (needs root).

XDA link

I'm not sure if it works or not but I'll try it after I finish doing a NANDroid backup
Seems to work as advertise. My phone seems much smoother than before.

I saw it posted in the infuse board but I'm always skeptical of those things...in my experience speed hacks always create more problems than they solve.

That being said I'll probably try it out anyways :p

drama afoot! google people are debunking the issue since nothing seems to actually be reading /dev/random and are saying it must be placebo because dlavik doesn't touch it.

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42265#c8

but people are claiming there must be an issue since something is eating away at the entropy! who is this entropy eater? why are they eating all the entropy? and what does google plan to do about it?

I'm using the fix and whether or not there is a positive effect, I'm just glad my entropy is taken care of!

Yea my problem with app2radio is that it doesn't do everything I want the stereo to do, that's why I bought another head unit. customGadz is hardware modification to the radio (or car's built in navigation system) to add the mirroring functionality. While it's intrusive I think it gives me the best of both worlds. This feature should just become standards with car head units. I have feeling car radios manufactures are going to push MirrorLink this year however, which is almost what you would want but not quite. Very annoying.

hahaha oh wow
Android doesn't use /dev/random. No matter what improvements people report, this is either a placebo, or it keeps the CPU on a higher frequency making it respond faster.
sounds like a reasonable explanation! run dat battery down to keep things more responsive!

I had just switched to Nova from Apex a month ago, because Apex was lagging like a motherfucker. Never turning back.
i initially chose Apex on my previous phone because of the better performance. now that i have a Note 2, i don't notice the difference, plus the latest Nova update is supposed to have better performance than before!

how would that fit their timetable though?

Wow what a fucking stupid product that archos thing is. I can't believe there is a human being in a high position that OK'd that. How do they have jobs. It's baffling.

They have long history of making various tablets. Almost as long as iRiver making mp3 players.

they have the low-mid end market in Europe on lock with their inexpensive devices.
this product isn't selling shit, I guarantee you it won't have made the investment to make it worthwhile. Including manpower and all that. It's all just a waste of time. I just find it surprising companies are still ok with doing these little time wasters.

I mean when apple does one they make the apple tv and that's reasonably popular, but it's just a time waster for them. This thing will be owned by a total of 7 people. And if they were actually serious about the product, they wouldn't have come up with that atrocity of a remote/controller and a dumb thing you have to actually put on your tv lol.

On 2nd January, Samsung pushed a software update (I9300XXELLA) to the Galaxy S III and we can confirm that the new software update fixes the infamous Exynos 4 vulnerability. The security flaw was in the kernel which made the device R/W by all users, apps and gave access to full Physical Memory. In short, this vulnerability gave root permissions to *any* app and there was no control over it but now with the new system update the security hole has been patched.

We believe that the new system update also fixes the sudden death issue as the new firmware ships with brand new bootloaders and this is the first time Samsung has updated the bootloaders of the device since it started shipping back in May 2012. But, we can’t confirm if sudden death issue has been resolved or not as Samsung is the only one who can confirm about the fix.

http://www.sammobile.com/2013/01/03...ynos-security-exploit-sudden-death-issue-too/

lets see how long this takes to roll out to all the affected devices worldwide...

First came the 5 inch Nubia Z5, then the seemingly CES bound Grand S, and it seems ZTE isn't done there. These leaked images have surfaced courtesy of the folks at @evleaks of an even larger device from the Chinese OEM bound for its native China.

Known so far only by its codename, P945, this 5.7 inch device is approaching the supersized -- and as yet, unofficial -- Huawei Ascend Mate. While the screen is larger than the Nubia Z5 and the Grand S by over half an inch, the other purported specs place this one firmly below the other two. The screen isn't 1080p as you might expect, instead the P945 has 'only' a 720p display.

Inside is supposed to be a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, an 8MP rear camera and the whole package has a thickness of sub-9mm. Software is said to be "ICS or above" which at this point we'd say is a given. Powering that massive screen will take some battery power, and the device is said to contain a 3000mAh battery. It's supposed to be hitting China Mobile sometime in late Q1 or early Q2, with no hint at any availability beyond this. Seems the screen size wars are well and truly on.

Tried out the Seeder app (90% of lag gone) app via .apk today. Battery life seems to be the same, not sure if I notice any difference performance wise though I'm not 100% sure if it's running or not since the app seems to be giving me the wrong information. I also can't see if it's running or not since the way to check via Terminal Emulator doesn't work for me for some reason.

I forgot to screenshot my battery usage but it seems normal as usual.

I'm on a Nexus S on the last CM10 nightly before it was moved to CM10.1 on mermite kernel overclock to 1092mhz, smartassv2 and CFQ.

Tried a galaxy note 2 yesterday. The Internet makes it seem way more bulky than it actually is. I used to carry handhelds in my pocket and the Note is much thinner and lighter than those. Definitely considering a large screen device for my next phone.

Leaked specs for new htc flagship:

Obviously the device will sport HTC’s new 1080p Super LCD3 screen technology, but it will be slightly smaller at 4.7-inches. We’d also expect brightness to be improved over the Droid DNA. According to trusted source, Football, the M7 will sport a 1.7Ghz quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 SoC, some 200Mhz faster than its DNA counterpart. It will have 2GB of RAM, 16-64GB of internal storage (non-expandable), a 13MP back camera, a 2MP front camera, and a 2300mAh non-removable battery.

Of course, the requisite radios and sensors will be included, such as LTE, WiFi, GPS/GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.0. Then there’s the matter of software; apparently the M7 will ship with a new version of Sense running atop Android 4.1.2 but this could change before the device’s announcement in February.

As for looks, it will resemble the slightly angular Droid DNA, with a matte black finish.

You know what, I've gotten myself decently hyped for this phone. Only thing dampening my hype is that I hate sense in a few ways. But overall, I was at the store and I was again reminded of HOW MUCH BETTER HTC's screens are than the competition. And not a little bit better, noticably better. Also, the Droid DNA reportedly has surprisingly decent battery life right? And that's a 5 inch screen? So if this one is 4.7 inches and has a bigger battery by about 300mah, it might also be great battery life.

I'm much more interested than I was before. But the carrier I'm on doesn't seem to get very many HTC phones so they'd have to do a better job at expanding that.

The Swift Key Flow Beta Updated so just a heads up to go manually download the new beta apk.

People should be using the stock 4.2 keyboard. I've started randomly swiping with it and it is quite impressive on the word guessing.

I'm done with google rumours and bullshit. I aint even hyped for that. If it comes I can just sell my phone and get that one if it's truly amazing. If it doesn't come, I won't be surprised one bit. If it comes next year I have yearly phone upgrades so...perfect.

It's not creating any problems besides a minimal additional battery drain, which was pointed out when the app was first unveiled, and which I haven't noticed on my GNex. What I have noticed is a much speedier phone, especially in Chrome and when using any keyboard, including the stock one. So I'm not sure which problems you mean.

The Seeder app is more than worthwhile on the GNex and Nexus 7, unless waking the CPU will kill my phone tomorrow or something.

Any ideas what'd the matter with my network? EE UK.
Randomly when I call or get a call it will cut out to an echo of my own voice.
Been happening for quite a few months and EE are no help.
