I saw an article online that was titled something like "Marathon is a competent extraction shooter but that may not be enough" and I feel like that's gonna be a fair and accurate synopsis of it.

It should be free-to-play. I hate this trend of paid games also having microtransactions + battlepasses etc. D4 is egregious, Marathon looks like it will also be terrible like this.
I actually really like the art style - I get that it's a decisive thing, but to me it is good/great and I can see it being really handy from a performance point of view (also there's nothing wrong with having a defined art style that isn't trying to be photo-realistic - not everything needs CoD 200GB of textures).
But making this a paid product is an absolutely terrible choice - games like this need a large number of users == free to play. And then the insult $$ up front + $$ for mtx <sigh>

Watched all the trailers for it, and it left me completely cold.
The gunplay looks fine, but nothing remotely innovative gameplay wise that stands out, and the structure just looks like a AAA attempt to make the extraction shooter structure more accessible.
The art style is a mixed bag where some of the environments and trippy sequences in the cutscenes look good, but the character designs are only a bit better than Concord to me. Shiny plastic looking robots where the main dude in the cinematic looks like Marilyn Manson bot with high cheek bones, and a few different girls that look like Lady Gaga dropped into slightly different vats of liquid Hot Topic.

More people need to play Hunt Showdown.
It's currently the most popular Extraction Shooter on console and the 2nd most successful Extraction game ever.
When you play that game, and then picture the Marathon key art next to Hunts key art in the Playstation/Xbox stores, it'll calibrate expectations much better.
The bar for Marathon is much lower than many realize.

Its going to do fine, but it won't be a breakout hit.
Bungie will quickly return to Destiny and Destiny 3 or new Destiny or whatever that is because it will remain their cash cow.
Marathon will be that game that slowly keeps chugging with minimal updates yet has a consistent 3-8k player base who live and breath it.
