Spent a few hours with it last night; the intro mission, the first solo mission, and one group mission and, unfortunately, I'm not really feeling it.
The intro mission was rather silly, particularly from a story perspective. So, you have this society built around the idea of fortified cities and Javelins, who protect the people from this never ending chaos brought on by the relics, leading one to think that conflict and strife are the norm. Yet, at the first defeat, the people of the world turn their backs on the Javelins, and now the revered warriors of history are instantly forgotten, their statues covered and their order scattered to the four corners?
That's dumb.
The dialogue is cringe, and the voice acting is mediocre at best. Owen's animation is really cool, but he's annoying. And that animation quality is not consistent. Owen looks amazing, Zoe looks like something out of 1998.
Gameplay-wise, it feels to me like it's trying to be Destiny, but not coming close. Bungie's gunplay curbstomps that of Bioware's. You take away the flight element, which still hasn't entirely clicked with me, and I don't feel like Anthem brings anything unique whatsoever.
I may try to spend some more time with it over the weekend but, if it hasn't grabbed me by now, I don't think it's going to. Shame, really. I'd been anticipating this for awhile now.
