Anyone NOT hyped about the next-gen systems? (Yet)

I'm interested. I'm pretty far from hyped, though. 360 is already out, and it doesn't particularly excite me (yet). We still don't know dick about PS3 or Revolution. Maybe once E3 rolls around... *shrug*

Basically, I'm still far too busy with games I haven't played this gen to even give much thought to what may come next-gen.

Yeah that's me in a nut shell between my Ps2 and my Ds ( alot of credit goes to Winning Eleven 9 as well) I am the most content with gaming that I think I've ever been.

Less so than I was at a relative point last generation. So far X360 is pricy and hasn't had a must-buy for me. We've seen far less of PS3/Rev than we did for PS2/GCN before their releases. I could guess at one or two PS3/Rev games I might want that will be available this year, but I already know I'm getting major Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Mario releases among others on existing systems.

I found this hilarious.

I'm excited about what is to come, but that excitement is all in a potential state as there isn't much to latch onto. The early 360 showings all feel very early and do not seem to represent even a fraction of what the system will be doing down the line. The lineup seems incredibly sparse as well (wait for E3). There isn't even really ANYTHING on the PS3 or Revolution side either.

I'm hoping E3 really brings the excitement.

A waning interest in gaming perhaps? I'm just as excited for next gen as I have been for previous gens. I doubt next gen will go towards multiplayer more than single player experience. I'm sure it's just going to be just an optional component of many games.

not too sure if that's what it is, I mean, I've purchased more games per week for my DS than I have for pretty much any other system I've ever owned [sans maybe the NES/SNES/Genesis era]. The 360 library isn't doing much for me, and then you have Sony and Nintendo giving out little bits ad pieces every 3 months. It's probably just that.

Well, I don't really hate Sony, I have a psx, but got caught up with the Dreamcast hype back in 99 and didn't have money to get a PS2, and by the time I did, I had already decided to get a GC.

well not interested in anything on the 360 because so far it's the same old shit in HD... and I'm not interested in the PS3 because we don't know shit, and the only reason I'm slightly interested in the Revolution is because not knowing shit intrigues me... but only to a certain point... then I get bored and just play whatever Half Life 2 mod is the flavour of the month

That's just crazy talk.

Next gen will undoubtedly be > Last Gen.

It can't possibly be any other way. Next-Gen opens up so many possibilities that weren't feasible last gen.

The Hell you say? Every gaming generation rocks. And as the technology improves we get different genres popping up and gaming keeps evolving. Again what's not to like?

to be honest, i probably won't grab an 360 until late summer. there is SO many titles i still want to play on the current-gen machines... right now, i have a good 10 games still in the wrapping for my xbox, gamecube, and ps2. on top of that, there's probably another 10 or so games i'd like to pick up. while i'd like to get a 360 now, there's nothing on it yet that makes me feel like i MUST buy one now... this gen has been great and is not over yet.

Only thing so far for me is $60 games.

How can you not be excited for the revolution, MIRite?!

no, actually I am no where near as hyped as i was for this gen. I just dont see what improvements can really be provided other than graphics and sound. This gen was able to expand the size of worlds we can explore. This was definitely a good thing due to the limits of the N64/PS gen. Now, however, I dont feel like games need to become bigger to be perfectly honest with you. This gen was able to provide large, detailed areas with no slow down, what can next gen really do to improve upon this other than up the graphics. Sure you can give me even LARGER areas, but I think the scope of games now is perfectly fine

who isnt atleast a little curious about what nintendo is going to deliver tho?

I have a backlog and game library that could easily last me years, given my current work schedule and pursuits. Add to that all the games I don't own (and scheduled for release) on systems I currently own...and I have absolutely no reason to be excited about bringing more consoles into my home. Any next-gen games I'm actually excited for also happen to have PC versions coming.

This is a new generation of gaming coming up. Why isn't everybody excited?

Because outside of MGS4 (Which i'm personally not all that excited about, though most people here are,) and maybe a few others im forgetting, no games of note have been announced for next gen systems yet. People will get excited when they start hearing about more games and not just some arbitrary hardware that they're going to have to drop $1000 to buy it all. Sure hardware is nice, but I suspect that people are more interested in what they're going to be playing on it.

I've been ALL about handhelds since March 05 when I picked up the DS, and September when I got the PSP. I'd had a GBA before that, and every Gameboy ever, but they never took up my time like those bad boys have... its insane. There are games I can count on one hand that pulled me back to the PS2, Xbox and Cube respectively. In the same time space I've bought 15+ handheld games, and I love them all.

I have no desire to buy a 360 (yet). None at all. I got the original Xbox late in the day, and I got it at a good price, got to go back and enjoy the best releases at my liesure and sample the best online service there is. I'm in no rush with 360 either, but I'm sure I'll love it just as much.

My plan is to buy a PS3 at launch, and if I'm not excited enough to keep it, I figure I'll make some money on the deal by selling it. As a big Nintendo fan I'll be getting Revolution on day one probably.

Revolution games will be $60. Thats a guarantee.

I don't care too much about the next generation consoles because its just systems that are beefed up. So its more of the same but with higher price tags. I didn't mind the graphics this generation whereas in 1998/1999, I was getting sick of the blurry N64 graphics and PS jaggies. Plus games are starting to really hit their stride. Now we'd have to wait a couple years before the big guns come out.

Plus its starting to be a point in my life where there's too much going on to really sink my teeth into gaming. This generation will last 5+ years. During that time, I'll be going from college to my job, which is pretty huge. Not to mention that I need money to pay off student loans fast (I owe a shitload). Its just not really a big priority right now.

I've known all along that 'nex gen' (man do I hate that term) is nothing more than high-end current PC grfx in the living room.

Still need good games, and I just don't see them. By 'good' I mean 'not possible on current consoles'. The games that meet that criteria have been neutered in other areas (read: frame rate). I mean, GOW is like OMG!!!1 Then when you take into account the not so smooth frame rate, funky animation... The novelty wears off.

i'm insanely hyped about the ps3. for me, next-gen (true next-gen, OMGICREAMEDMYNEWBOXERS goodness) starts when it's released. i'm convinced sony is out to deliver a knockout -- and i think they stand a good chance of connecting. what i've heard about the games in development is very promising, and i know that 3rd parties are lining up to exploit the beast housed under the ps3's hood. sony kind of let me down this gen, so i'm really excited about what they're going to deliver towards the restoration of my faith in them.

the rev is something i'm also cautiously anticipating. i think nintendo finally has something that could be worth owning. i'm really psyched about the possibilities that may accompany the way developers shape their wares around use of the revmote. i see a lot of fun, quirky games on the horizon.

at this juncture, the only system i'm not "hyped" about is the 360. i don't think it delivers enough to justify its price. sure, it's a leap -- but it's a mild one, so far. and i'm not sold on live; i've never really been a huge fan of online gaming on my console. live arcade is cool, and could potentially become a huge draw, but is it enough to buy the system? we'll see.

Having a 360 in the house has still left me wanting. My roommate has Kameo and PDZero and never touches them. I haven't been too OMG! impressed with any games so far, except for Fight Night 03, that does look pretty good. He fools around on Live Marketplace and that stuff and thats quite interesting but theres still alot more they can be doing with it. Basically nothing going on that makes me say I need to drop 400 bucks for one right now this instance.

PS3 has BRD which is a selling point to me right now regardless of anything. I may get more excited if it comes in at a most excellent price and we get some confirmation on features and whats bundled with it. Like I said though, regardless it's almost a clinched purchase now just for BRD.

Revolution. I will admit as week after week goes by i'm getting more and more curious to see how it turns out (until there is some stupid Nintendo speculation home made video or propaganda film then I come close to selling every Nintendo product I own). I can't really say anything till I seem some videos or better yet hold it and try in action and see what games they are making for it. If the games are all just the same ol' stuff thats been on gamecube just with the Revmote shoehorned into the gameplay I will most assuredly pass. If they are truly new and fresh game experiences and they found a way to overcome my problems with similar experiences then kudos to them and I may take a chance and get a launch nintendo system again after the N64 fiasco they pulled on me.

We know the specs tho. Based off that, I don't see how people are expecting anything marginally above the 360 in terms of visuals.

Time to come back down to earth, or get yanked down.

The only leverage the PS3 has is cheap BR playback. That will be what sets it apart. Then again, leveraging their success on that is silly because either it, or HD-DVD will go the way of the Beta Max.

The only system I'm truly excited for is the Revolution.

Other than that, PC, DS, GC, and PS2 combo is what I'm all about for a while. I'll probably get a ps3 sometimes in '07 and the 360 when Halo 3 comes out.

do we really know the specs?

i mean, sure, there's been a lot of speculative prattle off of comparisons that other parties have performed. but there's been nothing concrete from either sony or nvidia in that regard. we still have absolutely no clue how pairing cell with rsx will benefit what we see on the screen, although we've received rather strong hints that said relationship will allow the ps3 to do a lot of things that would strain the 360.

also, we do know that the ps3's cpu is considerably more powerful than the 360's, which lends itself to a host of advances we likely will not see on microsoft's console:

how we interact with the environment...etc..

npc ai..

the intricacies of various physics systems..

it's more than just graphics, man, and i think that's one of the areas where the ps3 will shine.

i guess i'm one of the few on this forum that doesn't buy into the false truism that "there won't be much of a difference between the two." i think that's malarkey that a lot of people here say to steel themselves against the exact opposite.

As the launches approach for PS3 and Rev, I have to say my previous anticipation for both consoles has really died down. It's probably due to the facts that 1)Concrete info for either one has been scarce lately, especially in the way of games and 2)I visit GAF almost daily where constant discussion about next gen takes place, and makes the wait seem infinitely longer.

There are definitely titles that I anticipate, namely MGS4 and MP3. Other than those two, nothing else really occupies my mind. I don't play online (maybe I'll start with PS3? hard to say) so lots of the news and reveals don't particularly excite me anyway, those that have to do with multimedia functions and all that.

There really are quite a few games yet to come for PS2 (Valkyrie Profile, FFXII, MGS3:S, Okami) and GC (Zelda) that I tend to focus more on them (although Zelda is bordering on a myth at this point). Add the backlog, and I have plenty to keep me occupied.

I think that even if it is a "false truism" that a lot of developers and publishers are so lazy that we won't be able to tell the difference most of the time. And I've heard enough of Sony's hype. The effort required to unlock PS2s potential kept it impressing late into its life, and thats all I expect the much vaunted Cell architecture / RSX to do for PS3. Technically it may be the better machine? But second or third run software is gonna be coming from publishers for 360 by the time it comes out... and a lot of them will be looking to publish cross platform with 360.

At least with this view I won't be disappointed.

Pants explodey pending Bladestorm pictures and movies!

So far as next gen is concerned, I've got too much to play now. I'll gladly wait until something amazing comes along (Bladestorm?!) until I jump in with both feet.

The whole HD thing is really not enticing to me either. I've no plans to run out and buy a new TV until I can walk into a store, see the same game running side by side on a standard set and an HD set and crap my pants on the spot.

Then, maybe I'll consider it. :P

Because the lack of information on the PS3/Rev, and any future X360 games is helping. Once the info starts flowing, I'm sure many will change their minds.

Absolutely. They even said it themselves, when they announced the Zelda CE as the testbed for the higher prices.

I'm excited.

Oblivion, Fight Night 3, GRAW soon, plus future games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Too Human, and others.

The XBox 360, after a relatively lackluster early performance, is starting to impress me with games like Ghost Recon and Oblivion.

Sony, after a stellar initial showing, is going downhill in my mind, because they aren't freaking showing anything. I don't even know when their next showing of the PS3 is supposed to be.

My interest in the 360 is going up, while my interest in the PS3 is going down. This 'quiet-game' is pissing me off.

I'm really hyped for Revolution and seeing what they'll have out for XBLA... yeah I guess I'm becoming more of a 'casual' gamer, preferring portable gaming, oldskool gaming and short, no commitment games with the occasional 1 RPG thrown in there. Just don't have much time anymore.

The 2D fanboy in me far, far outweighs the Nintendo fanboy in me. The next Super Smash Bros. is the only next-gen game I'm hyped about, and other than that everything I want most is either on the GBA or DS.

Going by the 360 launch, I'm not excited at all. The games got prettier, shorter, shallower, and more expensive. I have high hopes for oblivion, but if thats a letdown I will forgo next gen for a while.

Revolution, I will most likely buy at launch, but we have no idea what to expect in the way of games.

I am not excited. None of the next gen FPS stuff makes me want to sell my kindeys although a few are interesting. I haven't seen any SRPG's at all and I can't find myself caring about any of the announced RPG's so far. I haven't heard a peep about any good 2D fighters for the next gen!

I am more than content to continue to buy up everything I want for this gen and to play that.

So far the "next gen" looks to be nothing more than overhyped crap. I gotta go next gen sometime but I don't think any of the big three companies have a clue about how to do next gen right. I think all three have very flawed strategies and we are left to choose the least awful of the three.

Either we're all ratchety cranks or the traditional console market share is going to underperform next gen, judging from this thread and the general pulse of "eh" around the Internet regarding PS3/360.

Revolution's a wildcard, but just because we know so little. It may just as well be a bust in the same sense.

I'm to busy playing Guitar Hero and DMC3
and doing a sudoku book :/
to worry about next gen.

I'm not a fanboy, I'm just someone with no fucking money whatsoever.

My options are somewhat limited. I have considerable interest in the Revolution.
