I watched a docu last week where basically the moral of the story is foreign aid is making developing countries complacent, killing local businesses, and keeping the fatcats in power.

As sad as this situation is, we really need to restructure the way other countries are delivering aid. It's not as simple as give them food or clothes.

That too, direct food aid puts farmers out of business.

Wanted to correct some of the issues you said. The Debt is mostly Bush's fault, Obama could barely get budgets passed or the economy running quicker after 2010 thanks to GOP obstruction. Not to mention both parties refusing to increase taxes, which needs to happen.

That 20 trillion debt U.S have is not likely going to be paid off, national debts don't work like that anyways. So long as U.S can afford the interest payments and the debt doesn't rise at a significantly faster pace than the GDP of the country, it is a stable debt.

Percentage actually does mean a lot. Of course an economy of 19 trillion will likely and can easily put in more whole dollars than a country of 500 billion without feeling hits to it's own economy. This is why things are put into percentages to compare large economies with small ones.

Since you asked, I believe Sweden's debt is 200 billion, almost half of their economy.

It depends. When people are starving to death you simply have to transport food to them. Which is currently very often the case. And there aren't alot of farmers around when the city is burning. They are running and starving like the rest.

I don't get it. Are you saying the US Treasury's account at the Federal Reserve starts or ends with something like $0 or -$20 trillion in it?

We have people in this country saying it's not our job to help other nations and that should focus on helping ourselves, while they simultaneously argue that the government shouldn't be offering health care to its citizens.

Please read about how sovereign debt works. It is not at all like a mortgage or other debt.

I know! Trump is right about cutting foreign aid, we need to concentrate on passing laws that help Americans first!
