Hey guys, anyone here have a recommendation for an illustration app?

I am talking a vector-based drawing app like Adobe Illustrator. If Adobe puts out a Illustrator for iPad app I am gonna jizz in my pants.

What the heck, I might as well ask for pixel-based Photoshop-like app recommendations while I am at it. Is there a must-have paint program?

By the way BeeDog, nice list gonna check out the apps.

Inkpad is far and away the best vector app on the platform. It really does feel like a mini-illustrator on the ipad.

Big milestone for the iPad:

2niz1wy.jpg

It's six figures for the iPad: There are now more than 100,000 apps made especially for it in the App Store, a huge achievement in the nearly 15 months since the tablet itself went on sale.

"That’s a record: it took Apple more than 16 months to put together 100,000 iPhone apps," noted Cult of Mac.

Apple hasn't yet noted the roll-over into six-figure app territory (we've asked Apple to confirm the info, but have not heard back yet). But the count "was spotted on Macstories founder Federico Viticci’s iPad 2, at the time accounting for 100,161 applications on the App Store," said The Next Web. "In the 450 days since the iPad launched, it stands today with nearly 200 times as many apps as its rivals."

It took about the same number of days for the iPhone itself to reach that number of apps, as announced by Apple in November 2009. The App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch was launched in July 2008.

And, in January, Apple noted that more than 10 billion apps had been downloaded the App Store's first 2-1/2 years. The App Store itself now has a total of more than 350,000 apps.
"Don’t expect a revolution because Apple has reached 100,000 apps for the iPad," wrote Viticci on MacStories.

"But that’s not to say the result isn’t remarkable or that new things aren’t coming: with iCloud going public this fall and Automatic Downloads already set in place, Apple wants to make the process of buying and syncing apps to iOS devices even simpler. With Lion approaching its public launch on the Mac App Store in July, it’s clear Apple is betting on the App Store brand as the de-facto solution for downloading software for iOS and OS X devices.".

So I know a lot of what I am about to ask is based on rumor and speculation and answers will probably follow suit, but that's ok! :

Is there any new information on Apple launching a new iPad in September? Was that rumor ever de-bunked? I'm thinking of getting the iPad 2, but if I only have a little over two months until a new iPad is released, I would rather just wait for it.

iPhone in September, iPad 3 won't be until Spring.

Cool, I remember thinking that the rumor of pushing the iPad 3 (or a 7 inch version of the iPad 2) to September would be strange/unnecessary as I don't think the Amazon tablet will have enough units to really matter in the fall.

well it's free and tiny so even if you don't know what it is you might as well try it :p
I know what it is, but I don't think that posts like that are very informative. He could've at least posted a change log or pictures, like giga did. :p

There were a few rumors that had pegged a 5.7 inch iPod Touch as opposed to a smaller iPad (won't have to shrink UI, etc.), but who knows if these rumors will turn out. I guess we'll just have to wait until September (or some dude in Asia leaks images of casings).

I just got flipboard, it's cool and everything but I think I'm missing something, I'm searching for websites that I 100% know have RSS feeds but it's tossing up no results. Am I being dumb here or what?

Adding the stuff they suggest was fine and it looks real cool though, nice recommendation :)

Any recommendations for a video editing App?

iMovie is the obvious first choice. I’ve used it and it’s very easy with limited flexibility but still pretty decent for a first effort.

You also have ReelDirector to try out. I have not used this one.

Thanks, I will take a look at what they offer.

Keep in mind that iMovie only works with video shot with the iPad camera and (imported through through the camera connection kit) the iPhone camera.

Do you not have your own RSS feed? I just link mine to google reader.

If they do release a new iPad in september, it'll just be the iPad 2 + 4G option.

It doesn't make sense to accelerate a product cycle when you're a dominant market leader that can't make your product fast enough to meet demand.

Unless it's some smaller version that fits along side the traditional iPad offering. Granted, it might not happen but rumors have been swirling forever. I'd buy a smaller iPad in a heartbeat as I need something a bit more portable than the current iPad. Not sure how a smaller UI would work out, so that might be the thing that keeps them from bringing it to market.

Who knows...maybe a smaller iPad near the size of a Kindle or Nook would bring in more female buyers. OR go head to head as a marketed gaming device against the PS Vita.

I just don't see a small iPad coming out. That's what an iPod Touch is. The 7" tablets have proven to be not really any more portable than 10" tablets, while costing the same, and looking like a bad value compared to 10" tablets to consumers.

People were rumoring about an iPhone nano ever since the first iPhone, doesn't make it real, nor would it make any sense to make an even smaller touch screen device as a smartphone.

Noterize is free today. Is it any good compared to GoodReader?

I have no idea, but I downloaded it just to have it associated with my account just in case. Try gaining that habit too ;).

So I just bought an iPad 2, and I would like to know which cover should I buy ? I was about to buy the official smart cover, but I remember hearing bad things about it.

.

An iPad the size of a Kindle (what...6 inch?) would be great for a lot of people and would definitely be more portable. There certainly is room for a device between a iPod touch and iPad. Heck, if they just got rid of the Touch line and converted it to a 6 inch iPad, I think that'd be fine. I'd ditch my Touch in a heartbeat for something like that.

Again, the biggest issue is how the iPad UI would look or function. You'd either have to shrink it down or enlarge the iPod touch UI. Not sure which would be better/worse.

Any news about the Kindlecalipse? I guess we survived the day after...

June 30: Judgment Day for Amazon’s Kindle on Apple’s App Store

Time is running out for Amazon and other e-book sellers to comply with Apple’s demands to implement in-app purchases on the App Store by June 30, 2011.

June 30th, 2011 will be remembered as e-Book Judgment Day on Apple’s App Store.

Back in February, Apple changed a number of its rules concerning in-app purchases by content providers as well as for e-Book sellers. Essentially, if you provided a method for purchasing content outside of the application, you also had to include a native in-app purchase mechanism as well, so that Apple could get a 30 percent cut on each purchase.

Additionally, Apple has now required under section 11.13 of the App Store developer agreement that “Buy” buttons that spawn external browser sessions in content consumption apps are no longer permitted and will be rejected. this explains of course why SONY never got their eReader application accepted into the App Store, and the companies have been at loggerheads ever since.

The deadline for implementing these changes in subscription apps was set for June 30, 2011.

If you want to cover the front, buy the offical smart cover.

If you want to cover the back, by something else

There is no need to cover the back

You should buy a slip-in pouch to hold and protect the iPad when you travel...

Like this one.

Nothing else is really needed

Thanks for the reply. I'll go with the smart Cover, I only want to cover the front. But which color looks better on a black iPad ?

I use Adobe Ideas, which is free. It's a pretty nice sketching program that saves out files as PDFs, which you can open and edit as vector art in Illustrator.

I heard the leather smart cover rubs off or bleeds onto the iPad. Anyone have any issues here so far?
It smudges the screen, like long fingerprints. I don't mind it myself.

Even though Flipboard one of my favorite iPad apps (and probably killed any interest I had in digital magazines, especially with the new update), I still have to go back to Reeder for my Google Reader needs. The readability and 'mark all as read' buttons make it impossible for me to switch.

Wipe them off. I still don't get this. The cover is a screen cloth, just fold it and use it like a squeegee. It's what it was made for. The lines are only where the cover isn't touching so the screen isn't being cleaned.

If they did bring out new ones in October, I think it just means they are realigning their releases to coincide with the holidays. I would guess they would keep to a yearly refresh after that.

Late 2011 iPad rumors have been going since before the iPad 2 came out. I still think it is just false hope, and people are jumping on little bits of new info and tying them to the rumor in the hope of making it true
