Apple will release the iPad 3 later this year and Jobs will have trolled all iPad 2 owners.

If they did bring out new ones in October, I think it just means they are realigning their releases to coincide with the holidays. I would guess they would keep to a yearly refresh after that.
I don't think they should ever align the iPad and iPhone to launch at the same time. The earlier iPad launch helps make components in the iPhone cheaper, and only big Apple zealots will actually buy both at the same time.

I agree.

Getting both an iPhone and iPad at launch at the same time is just a little bit pricey....much better to have them spaced apart. Also easier to get excited that way.

As an iPad 1 owner, I would love an iPad 3 in October. It sure would be a kick in the face to iPad 2 owners though. I don't think they'll do it.

I doubt this.

I think they want to focus on one device which is the new iPhone
Isn't there a rumor that iPhone 5 might not come out until next year though in order to avoid pissing off the new Verizon customers who got one recently?

I came into the thread to ask if anyone subscribes to magazines since I've been toying around with the idea of getting an iPad and that would be the most exciting thing for me. Thanks to my Kindle I'm pretty much done with paper books, it'd be nice if the iPad magazines were quality enough that I could use them and not have piles of back issues lying around, and getting everything the second it's available would be great too. The Economist is the one I'd really need to be at least as good on iPad as it is in print (no missing articles or anything like that) but I also read The New Yorker, Wired, and Scientific American, among a few other.

BUT if there's a rumor with any sort of credibility claiming iPad 3 might come out in October, I'll hold off. Though it does seem like a ridiculous idea.

IIRC, if they stick with the current cycle, the 3 would come out in March, right?

The Economist is great. They even allow subscribers to listen to audio versions of all the articles.

iPad 3 in October?

As a iPad 2 owner, I will rage if this is true.

I hope it's true. I got a first Gen iPad for 290 few months ago and I'm getting sick of only having 256MB RAM. It's not like I wasn't aware of that, but the iPad 2 wasn't a jump big enough for me (especially when I wanted one with a retina display). However, I won't buy this either, when it's only a display upgrade for the iPad 2. 1GB ram or you won't see my money, Apple. :lol

All that said, the source is DigiTimes and they're hit and miss when it comes to rumors.

I'm going to be really, really bothered if they release another upgrade less than a year later.

The source of that rumour is digitimes.

the same digitimes saying PS4 will have Kinect style motion controls and will ship 20m units in 2012. (see gaming side)

they are bad at rumours. they either have the shittiest sources in the world or they just make shit up.

Stop dreaming about an ipad3 in 2011. They aren't going to wreck the holiday sales of the ipad2. That would be throwing money down the drain for the sake of a very niche group of graphics whore holdouts.

U shut up ps4 is true with 4 D controllers and god will come and bless us with Ipad 3 but then the rapture starts.

Ridiculous Apple rumors re-emerge whenever the press runs dry on actual Apple news, I find. We can expect this precipitation to continue until a low-pressure wave of MacBook Air news cools down the heat to a manageable level.

As long as I get to lay my hands upon a Retina display iPad before the Rapture starts, I’m cool.

The Apple rumors this year have been insane.

That said, I'll gladly take a Kindle-sized iPad that's been rumored by sites with horrible track records!

They are. Android 10" tablets are outselling 7" tablets by a large margin.

Aren't most of the 7 inch tablets at a 16:9 ratio? I don't even see the point of a 7 inch at a 4:3 ratio. If anything, maybe a 6 inch at 4:3 to go up against the e-readers but 7 inch seems like no-man's land.

Until a company starts making it's own hardware and software (and services), I just don't see any tablet going up against the iPad. HP has the closest shot, I guess. Samsung just straight up rips off Apple hardware design but then crams it with janky Android.

7" is bad and you should feel bad for wanting one. ;)

Posted in other threads prior to finding this one:

A friend of mine is willing to sell me his unopened 64GB 3G iPad 1 for a ludicrous price (like, less than 200 dollars), and I'm still deciding on whether or not it'll be something I actually need. Can anyone comment on its abilities as a note-taking device? I currently use a netbook for lecture notes, but I'm finding it impossible to really use to write papers and do any actual work when I'm not at home on my primary computer. The screen is too low-res.

Would an iPad satisfy me if I were to buy a keyboard case for it? Does anyone else do this?

$200 for a first generation iPad is a steal. I say buy it. If you don't use it as much as you thought you would, sell it. You haven't lost much, and you'd probably break even. If not profit.

Just got an iPad a few days ago as a gift and I'm loving it so far. A few (very dumb) questions, though.

How often should I completely turn off the device? As of now, I just put it into sleep mode whenever I'm not using it. I'm unsure of whether I should ever shut it down, though. And also, will overcharging the product drain the battery quicker? Like if I leave it plugged in overnight?

Thanks guys. Like I said, they're really dumb questions but I'm really dumb as well.

I paid him $150. Fuck!

Apologies in advance if this has been answered multiple times. I browsed through 50 pages before finally giving up.

I'm about to take the plunge on an ipad 2 this week, primarily for a 25 hour flight (ouch!). I'd love to know if there any open-world RPGs available, ala Morrowind or Fallout 3? I'm not really into portable platformers or dungeon crawls. I desperately need a open-world game to keep me busy, when I'm not reading or watching movies.

Also, anyone have experience with these earbuds? Thanks guys!

There's absolutely no need to ever shut it down.

I can't see a new iPad this year, Apple barely gets by doing 1 per year without consumers raging. If I have to worry about a new iPad every 6 months I'd go insane.

I'm seeing a new iPhone this fall, but that's it.

I really don't think they would put out two iPads in the same year, unless they open up a premium line of iPad pros.

I am sure people are ready to pay 999$ for a "retina" 32 gig iPad 2.

Tomorrow will be 30 days sense my Ipad2 purchase, but I don't care about an Ipad 3. The one I have now does everything I could want it to do, and is still so good that I don't believe the full potential has been brought out.

I hope this brings the standard of programming to be the Ipad 2 at minimum in the same way that the 3GS became the lowest standard.

Don't worry about battery management, charge as often or as little as you want to.

Don't ever bother turning it off.

If you do want to turn it off, hold the top button for ~3-4 seconds and you'll see a red swipe drop down, swipe it to turn it off.

Wow, really? I always made sure to use the battery until there's like 10-15% left before charging. So the iPhone/iPad batteries aren't like regular rechargable batteries?

Different battery types have different recharging characteristics. Lithium-type batteries don't suffer from "memory" and don't require the same attention that Nickel rechargeables need.

Actually, fully discharging Li-ion batteries is worse for them then more actively charging them.

I find reading on the iPad 2 a bit harder on my eyes than the iPhoone 4, probably due to the lower DPI screen making text more blurry.

I definitely want a higher DPI screen eventually, and will buy a new iPad that has one.

Is it possible to rename PDFs saved on your iPad via the device itself or through iTunes? A file I downloaded for school is named a bunch of nonsense and I want it organized.

Aralon is essentially a Morrowind clone. Should be what you're looking for. There's also Avadon, which is a turn-based RPG much like Balder's Gate. I know the names are confusing. You might also want to get Civilization Revolution for a game that'll last you a long time.

iPad 3 news shouldn't make you rage. That's one of the positives about buying Apple products, they have great resell value. Shouldn't be too hard to sell off an iPad 2 and make most of your money back.
